It is unusual because the basket is"tilted" on it's pedestal. see pix 5) It stands 1 1/2" high on one end and 2 1/2" tall at the opposite end. It is about 8 1/2" high to the top of the handle. Pictures 11& 12 show the pedestal. This old basket is beautifully embossed with flowers. Leaves and scrolls. The handle features openwork and is securely attached. Pictures 8, 9& 10 show the back side detail and hallmark. The hallmark reads: Meriden Silverplate Quadruple Plate and features the standing lion in the center of the circle. GORGEOUS MERIDEN QUADRUPLE SILVERPLATED SERVING DISH BASKET MID-1800'S. Up for sale is this GORGEOUS Meriden Quadruple Silverplated serving dish basket. Model#1661. After much research, I feel that this basket was made in the mid-1800's. This basket features embossed birds, hammered marks, floral etchings and has four legs which are also beautifully detailed. The condition of this basket is great but one of the legs, which matches the rest, does not bend out, it is straight. This basket has a wonderful patina but if you choose, will need to be polished. The basket has been stamped on the bottom with Meriden Quadruple, 1661 and has a figure of a lion. Whoever placed this stamp did not press too hard because half of the stamp is unreadable or missing. Please see detailed pictures. Measurements: 9 3/4" wide, 5 1/4" tall(without ... morehandle) handles are 7" tall. I researched this basket and found the following information: Antique Silver Plate from this era is dominated by themes from nature. Birds. Animals, insects and plants are beautifully rendered in silver. Sometimes in repousse' embossed designs) sometimes in cut-engraving, sometimes applied silver decorations. Antique Silver Plate from this era is most commonly marked with the words. QUADRUPLE PLATE. This means there are four layers of silver plate on the piece. Triple Plate is sometimes seen as well. VICTORIAN QUADRUPLE PLATE MERIDEN B. FRET WORK CUT WORK SUGAR BASKET SWEET MEAT Search Up for auction is Victorian sugar basket by Meriden B. Company from the late 1800's. I believe the basket is in Quadruple Plate or has been re-plated as it is in very good condition for its age. The Meriden B. Company merged with International Silver Company at the end of the 1800's and this basket still carries the Meriden mark and not the I.S. mark. It is small standing 6.5 inches tall to the top of the handle and 2.5 inches tall to the rim. It is 6.75 inch long and 6 inches measuring front to back. The cut work is fantastic. Victorian fret or cut work was often achieved by using a tool similar to a dental knife of today to carve the intricate details by hand. The fret work on the basket was made separately and attached to the base of the basket ... morewhich also was an art. The center of the basket is still retains a light gild trim. There are no monograms or dents. Lovely antique silverplate bride's basket was made by Meriden Britannia Company in Meriden. CT. It is marked on the base and also has the style number 1690. Basket measures 11 ¼" long by 8 5/8" wide by about 4 inches tall. Basket is in fair condition with light scratching and some possible plate loss. Lovely design features heavily beaded edge, Greek key border and central floral design. Handle is still tight and has an engraved"B" at the top(Olde English style) Wavy, possible warped edge/rim. This is a Meriden-Brittania Co. Quadruple Silverplate Bridal Basket. Circa 1860-1870's. It bear the mark of Meriden-Brittania Co. and the number 1742. It is 5.50" tall. 10" in diameter and features three finely detailed feet and arched handle. It will need to be polished. I found this beautiful basket about 50 years ago in the basement of a Victorian Italianate house I restored. I am downsizing and want to find a good home for it so it can be displayed and enjoyed.not stuck away in a box as I have had it for the past 50 years. Absolutely breathtaking! This is a lovely example of Meriden B Company’s quadruple plate at its best. This bridal or cake basket. Tray, or platter is apx. 9 ¾” in diameter. It stands apx. 5 ½” to the top of the plate, and has a handle apx. 5” tall, for a total of apx. 10 ½” in height. The handle has a floral design. And the inside of the basket has what look like daisies and leaves. The edge of the basket is exquisite with flowers and leaves. The base is 4-footed, and has a more stylized design. Condition: I think you will be very pleased with it. It does have a few scratches and tarnish. Please see the pictures– 12 of them. As they are part of the description. Antique Ornate Aesthetic Floral MERIDEN Quadruple Silver Plate Bride's Basket
Here is a very ornate antique quadruple silverplate footed bride's basket from Meriden Company. It has embossed floral pattern on the inside. Decorative border and handle. There is some minor denting on the side rim which I think is from the handle hitting it. I love the openwork handle and hinge area. It measures about 9" wide and 4 1/2" tall, total height with the handle up is about 10" tall. I really don't see any noticeable or damaging silverplate loss or pitting. Meriden B Company Quadruple Plate 89 Silver Plated Basket made in USA
This Meriden B Company Quadruple Plate 89 Silver Plated Basket measure approximately 5.5 inches by 4.5 inches. The handle can be collapsed but stands approximately 4.5 inches when upright. The backet has a depth of approximately 1.25 inches. The base of the basket is a circle with a 4 inch diameter. The markings stamped on the bottom of the basket are"Meriden B Company. Quadruple Plate, 89, U.S.A. This piece hasn't been cleaned and polished for a very long time. The inside bottom of the has some pitting in the silverplate. The base of the basket has shelf wear scratches around the outer edge and some longer scratches through the center area. See Photos. The sides, handle and rim of the basket are in good condition.
