Lovely. Ornate- so Victorian! Silverplate Bride's Basket In Victorian days. A very common and suitable gift for a young bride or bride-to-be would be a silver or silverplate Bride's basket. She would place it on the front table where it would soon be filled with well-wishes from family and friends. The main features of the basket are the handle and the wide rim. The basket is also somewhat raised on its base. So it appears very much like a real basket you might see made of straw and natural materials. So it takes one somewhat aback to see the basket design in the more elegant medium of silverplate. This one has such a lovely. Ornate repousse design to it! It is just a very lovely example of a Victorian Bride's Basket. Basket with one of the sweetest handles I've seen- it is almost a double handle- or at least it part of it ... moreis a double handle design- quite rare and unique! This silverplate bride's cake or pastry basket is one of the items they produced around the 1880's. It is marked: Meriden Silverplate Co. Quadruple Plate with the Meriden maker's logo and numbered: 01602. Aesthetic etched pattern on interior bowl portion with stylistic leaves and flowers. Border is repousse flowers. And leaves. Aside from needing a good silver polishing there is one flaw on the UNDERSIDE of bowl where there is plating that has worn off(I have shown 2 images, 8& 9 that show this) some small spots on the center circle of bowl. This is a beautiful Silver Plated Brides Basket/ Fruit Basket. There is an impressed stamp on the bottom which reads: Pairpoint Mfg. Co. New Bedford, Mass, Quadruple Plate, Pat. Jan. 31, 1893 and number 1249. This item is 120 years old. A lot of embossing on this basket. Looks like a branch with apples on the inside bottom which are raised on the inside and punched in on the underneath. Branches, leaves and apples make up the handle which is hinged. 4 feet on which to stand with a gallery above the feet. Looks like the four corners which are indented in have an engraved design on them. This Basket is in excellent condition showing no wear on the silver. It looks like it was not cleaned for it is tarnished and the pictures will probably show up dark on the computer. I am leaving it as it is for the new owners to clean themselves. This is a very old brides basket. It has hallmark on bottom rim but I can not read. I believe it is sterling silver. It measures approx. 9 inches tall by 7 inches. It weighs 205 grams. Offered in this auction is a superb Silber& Fleming Victorian brides basket with purple/mauve enamel liner. C.1880! This piece is 10 1/2" high overall, 12" wide. Condition is excellent, there is no damage to either the frame or glass insert. The handle is slightly loose and could use a tightening, mentioned for accuracy only. The basket is fully marked with the crown, beaver, and PGS for Silber& Fleming. The repousse work is superb with grapes, flowers, vines, and etc. The cased glass liner is an exceptional purple shading to mauve with enamel flowers, very much nicer in person. Exquisite Antique Vintage Repousse Brides Basket Fruit Bowl Pedestal With Intricate Grapevine Leaves Pattern. Rim of basket has grapevine design all the way around basket. The handle has a beautiful scroll design with leaves and grapes. The sides drop three tiers to base of basket. This could be Nickle Silver. Silver Plate or Pewter. I am not 100% sure. It is not marked. There is a marking on bottom of Basket– 1807 12. There is some weight to this piece. The basket measures 11" diameter. Base is 3.5” inches tall and 10” tall to the top of the handle to base. There are some scratches. Tarnish and little dents in basket. However. This does not take away from beauty of piece. You are bidding on an absolutely beautifully detailed brides basket made by WMF. Mid-century, possibly earlier. It has an ornate rose pattern with an urn in the middle of the design. Then. There is a clear glass removeable liner. The liner has one tiny 1mm flea bite in the underside of the liner. Otherwise immaculate 10.5 inches high x 7 inches long x 5 inches wide handle is intact. Antique Silverplate Repousse Dutch Folk Scenes brides tulip basket , Circa 1839
Procured by an antique dealer in Belgium. This amazing repousse silverplate basket depicts family and farm scenes in 19th Century Holland. It has been lovingly used as a tulip flower vase as evident from the wear inside. Notice the weeping sides on the piece made so that tulips lay naturally inside. It has a Dutch triple x in a shield hallmark indicating it was made in the city of Breda. The Breda shield is flanked by a W and R hallmark and stamped with the pattern number: 83647. The asking price reflects the fact that the handle is slightly misshaped and it is missing plating inside the piece, however the outside plating and the handle plating are perfect. It simply needs to be polished as it has earned its long patina of 175 years of age. I bought this stunning piece from a european antiques dealer and have filled this basket with long ... morestemmed french tulips on my side board for many years. Gorgeous! Antique repousse silverplate basket with handle. Scenery represents 19th Century Holland I believe. I have used it for flowers over the last 10 years or so in my kitchen. The silverplate is missing/worn through in a lot of areas and the copper base metal is noticeable. In my opinion. It doesn't detract from the beauty of the piece, but certainly effects the value. It has a Dutch triple X in a shield hallmark indicating it was made in the city of Breda. The Breda shield is flanked by a W and R hallmark and stamped with the pattern number 83642. Overall the piece has become slightly misshaped over the years and it is missing plating. However it still sits nicely and holds flowers or whatever. It is 7 inches in diameter and 13 inches tall.
