It is in shabby chic condition with plate loss and scratches from loving use over the last 100 years or so. We found this history on the Derby Historical Organization's site online(great site! The Derby Silver Company was founded in 1872. And began operations on Shelton's Canal Street one year later. The company soon outgrew its quarters and constructed a larger building, which still stands on Bridge Street, Shelton, in 1877 near the Housatonic River, overlooking Derby. A number of additions were added in subsequent years. The original Canal Street building was razed when the railroad was built through Shelton in 1888. The company made toilet articles. Mirrors, combs, clocks, brushes, table and flatware, tea sets, children's cups, loving cups(trophies) candlesticks, fruit baskets, dishes, basically anything which was plated by or made of silver. This is a beautiful Silver Plated Brides Basket/ Fruit Basket. There is an impressed stamp on the bottom which reads: Pairpoint Mfg. Co. New Bedford, Mass, Quadruple Plate, Pat. Jan. 31, 1893 and number 1249. This item is 120 years old. A lot of embossing on this basket. Looks like a branch with apples on the inside bottom which are raised on the inside and punched in on the underneath. Branches, leaves and apples make up the handle which is hinged. 4 feet on which to stand with a gallery above the feet. Looks like the four corners which are indented in have an engraved design on them. This Basket is in excellent condition showing no wear on the silver. It looks like it was not cleaned ... morefor some time as it is tarnished and the pictures will probably show up dark on the computer. I am leaving it as it is for the new owners to clean themselves. It measures 10 1/4 inches long, 8 1/2 inches wide and stands 3 inches high, 8 inches high with the handle up. This listing is for a lovely romantic art nouveau brides basket that is a harder to find company. It was made by Queen City Silver Co. out of Cincinnati Ohio. Numbers on bottom indicate it was made in 1893. It is in excellent condition for age with no dents and just a couple minor small spots of plate loss on relief areas of flowers that just looks like reflection so you don't notice it. The very edge handle have a couple small spots of plate loss as well. But not enough to detract from the piece or grab your attention and I only therefore mention for accuracy. The art nouveau lines are lovely and the handle is just as decorative as the basket. It measures 8 3/4" high to top of handle that will stay in place in upright position-not too loose or tight-just right. Bowl area is 10" across. There is no loss of silver on this piece, in excellent condition, especially for its age. I believe this was made around 1910. There is one scratch on the inside but due to the quality of the quadruple silver plate, it does not go through to the base metal, see picture 10. Marked on the bottom, Pairpoint mfg. Quadruple Plate#1000 Information: This is an antique Hartford Silver Plate Company(Hartford CT USA) beautiful silver plate brides basket that based on it's makers mark dates from 1881- 1893. This vintage basket has very detailed and ornate designs on the outer edge and base of the pedestal base. There is also an etched cut design of flowers on the top surface/plate. The designs that repeat along the edges include birds. Leaves, mountains, floral scenes and butterflies. This stunning brides basket has patina throughout and I am chosing to leave it as is for the buyer to polish if they desire to do so. This could be used as a brides bowl or a card holder or cupcake stand.many possibilities. Please see pictures. This bowl has detailed designs with birds. Mountains, butterflies and floral patterns both on the outer top edge and lower pedestal base edge. Inside the top plate there are etched flowers with stems that repeat throughout. After some research the makers mark on this dates from 1881-1893. There are signs of age to include tarnished areas and some scuffs/scratches and I am leaving it as is for the buyer to either polish or leave the aged patina look. This has a recessed center on the top plate. The top outer rim has some slight bends in it which are visible, approx. 3 slight twists or misshapen areas which I tried to show in my photos. Van Bergh(Rochester NY) quadruple silver plate victorian brides basket in good vintage condition. Basket is engraved/incised with a floral pattern. Handle is secure and moves freely. I believe the designed element on the top of the handle as well as the decorative handle mounts on the edge of the basket are made of pewter. Basket could use good polishing. To really make it"pop" There is an area on the rim of the basket(approx 1/2 inch long) where I believe the plating may be worn away(see pic 10) which may or may not become more noticable if the piece is polished. This beautiful basket features elaborately detailed designs popular in the Victorian era. Very sturdy with four feet and a fold down handle. This makes a beautiful centerpiece. Or on a buffet table. This is a beautiful Silver Plated Brides Basket/ Fruit Basket. There is an impressed stamp on the bottom which reads: Pairpoint Mfg. Co. New Bedford, Mass, Quadruple Plate, Pat. Jan. 31, 1893 and number 1249. This item is 120 years old. A lot of embossing on this basket. Looks like a branch with apples on the inside bottom which are raised on the inside and punched in on the underneath. Branches, leaves and apples make up the handle which is hinged. 4 feet on which to stand with a gallery above the feet. Looks like the four corners which are indented in have an engraved design on them. This Basket is in excellent condition showing no wear on the silver. For auction is an unusual silver-plated metal"bride's basket" by the James W. Tufts company of Boston. Massachussetts. It is square-shaped with rounded corners, and has what looks to me like a floral or paisley fan scrolled engraved design on top and a"screen" pattern on the underside. It measures 8 7/16 inches each side and is about 8 1/2 inches high; with the handle at full height it is about 10 inches high. The maker's mark on the bottom indicates it is quadruple plated and warranted. I don't know much about it, I am selling this for a neighbor who told me it was in his house when he bought it.Could be very old(some JW Tufts pieces date to the 19th century) but I do not know for sure. It has some plate loss on one side of the basket and on the handle as well so condition is not perfect, but typical of something ... morereally old. This is a beautiful small QUADRUPLE SILVERPLATE BRIDES BASKET. I have been collecting quadruple silverplate for 10 years and I have never seen a small basket like this one. The basket is made by COLONIAL SILVER COMPANY and is marked with the maker and Quadruple Plate 1135. The size of the basket is 6 1/2" tall with the diameter being 7" at the widest point. The basket is 6 1/2" around. This basket is in MINT CONDITION.no cracks or breaks. I think that this piece may have been a SALESMAN SAMPLE. Tufts footed circular plate or bowl measures 3 in high and across it is approx. 9 1/2 inches and the handle rises in the center to 5 1/2 inches when in raised position. The handle is very well attached at both sides On the bottom it has the James W. Tufts Boston info shown in the item's title with"Warranted Quadruple Plate" and the number 2768. What a stunning piece for a center piece on any table. The flowers included are a large cone flower. Wild roses, a large rose, daisies, sunflowers and pansies. The other designs are so beautifully etched in to blend with the floral design. The bowl/plate does not sit squarely on a table- it seems to slope to one side.

This is a beautiful Silverplate Bride's Basket. Marked on the bottom: Quadruple Plate; Wilcox Silverplate Co. Meriden. Conn. 163 3 1/2(see photo#8) It stands approximately 12 1/2" tall to the tip of the handle and is 10" across the bowl portion. The inside of the bowl has a beautiful etched pattern of 4 birds(appear to be hummingbirds) over an arrangement of flowers and leaves with a little bee just to the left of each bird. The bowl rim is trimmed with a bell shaped pattern that has texture to it. Handle folds down and the top center has an open ring area for easy carrying that has 3 flower buds center top. The silver looks nice and shiny with only minor areas of tarnish that I'm sure will clean off easily. Condition is excellent. Antique Victorian era brides basket in very good condition with original glass basket that fits perfectly. It is approximately 12 inches tall x 10 inches wide. At widest point, handle of basket) The base of the silver plated basket is approximately 4.5 inches wide. The quadruple plated silver basket was made by the MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. See mark in picture provided. I have included a bit of MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. history below. There are also some numbers on the bottom of basket and part of the marking says, HARD WHITE METAL" I polished the basket prior to taking pictures so that you can see much of the silver is gone from years of polishing. But there remains a nice patina. The metal basket is sturdy and sits level. It has a beaded rope design with flowers and tassels on the handle. The base has flowers and what seems to be an Asian influenced ... moredesign. See pictures. The glass brides bowl is white with a teal color around the ruffled edge. When held up to the light the glass takes on a pearlescent look. See picture. It measures approximately 7 inches in diameter. It does have one barely noticeable chip in the glass. See pictures. Your eye is not immediately drawn to this and it does not detract from the beauty of the piece. This little basket is great to use for teas. This is beautiful piece of vintage silverware. Originating in the mid-18th century. Ornate silver Brides Baskets once added a bit of elegance and prestige to victorian weddings and are still used by many southern brides. It would have been first carried by the flower girl in the ceremony. Then placed on the brides table to hold her bouquet. Then found in a prominent place in the couple's new home. It is 10" tall. 10" wide and the indent for the bowl is 3 1/4" The basket has leaves, twisted wire and the base has four feet and flowers, leaves and birds around the edge. It has four acorns that are attached to the circle that holds the basket. It is really unusual and pretty. One problem, it is very dirty, even more so than the pictures show.
