This is a darling little basket made by Pairpoint Mfg Co sometime between 1880-1894. It has a delicate design with a beaded rim followed by a border of 1/2 moons. Then vertical slats, all on a footed square base with pedestal. This is an especially elegant and collectible piece. The basket is hallmarked"Pairpoint Mfg Co. Quadruple Plate, 2070" Quadruple plate means that 4 times as much silver was used in the plating process resulting in a nicer patina and better durability than in conventional plating. It is marked in the very center of the bottom, Van Bergh Silver Plate Co, Rochester, NY with Guadruple plate in the middle. The design is a lovely basic floral design and the handle and feet are beautiful and ornate. The handle is movable, but not removable. The basket weighs 1 lb. 4 oz. and measures 8.5" x 11" x 8" in height. It will come to you polished. The residue you see in the photos is older paste silver polish which I will remove. CT- Quadruple Plate- 1915 I have been a long time collector of this exotic Victorian era silverplate pattern- this is the first time I have seen an"Assyrian Head" basket! The facing profiles of a Greek or Roman man and woman. The full face of a Goddess with flowing locks of hair, and the distinctive pinwheels are familiar elements of the pattern that surrounds the inside of this basket. It stands on four reticulated feet- a design that is repeated on either side of the base where the swing handle is attached. The center of the bowl has a fancy monogram of three intertwined letters- possibly'C-S-M' a lovely decorative"period" accent to the piece. F B Rogers Silver c1890 Quadruple Plate Footed Basket Embossed Victorian Large This is a unique Victorian style embossed basket and very sizable display piece. The quadrupleplate basket is by F B Rogers Silver Company. The basket is thick and weighs 2 pounds. 10 ounces. It measures approximately 12 1/2 inches in height(with handle up) and 10 1/2 inches long. It is 6 1/2 inches in height with the handle down. The base is 6 3/4 by 5. The basket is a little over 9 inches deep. The handle moves freely with no issues. The 12 inch artificial rose and spoon are for size comparison. This basket was made sometime between the late 1880s and very early 1900s. That estimate is not because of the 1883 on the makers mark. That mark was used for many years. Quadruple plate was used from the latter part of the 1800s to the very early 1900s. The basket could ... morehave been made as early as 1883 but not much later than 1900. The second photograph is how the basket looked when I bought it. I was going to leave the tarnish so the buyer could choose whether to clean it and how much. However. I could not see, photograph, or accurately describe any details or imperfections without removing some tarnish. I gave the exterior one coat of polish. I polished the inside and underside completely. The exterior will shine like the underside if it is polished a few more times. Besides the interior, the basket is in good to very good condition depending on your personal criteria. The exterior shows very little wear in terms of use. There are some minor scrapes and nicks. The ones that do exist are mostly superficial and relatively small. This can be seen in the photographs. This basket surprisingly has less physical wear than many newer silverplate I come across. There is minor plate loss to the exterior. The one area that shows noticeable plate loss is one embossed area on the rim. I put a green mark on that photo. Besides that. The rest of the embossed areas show some to hardly any wear. James W. Tufts Quadruple Plate Footed Floral Bridal Basket #2768 GREAT CONDITION
Up for bid is a James Tufts Quadruple Plate Footed Floral Bridal Basket. Pattern number#2768, circa 1875-1915. I'm not too sure of the exact date on this piece, but from what I've researched, James Tufts began manufacturing Silver Plate Hollowware in 1875, and continued until his death in 1902. The company survived another 13 years, finally going out of business in 1915. This basket is a beautiful example of the fine and detailed work they did. It's got a twisted rope style handle. Scalloped edging, and is engraved with a multitude of various flowers- roses, Lily-of-the-Valley, sunflowers, thistle, poppies, Callalilies, pansies, dahlias, and mums. There are so many different flowers, that every time I look at the basket, I find a new one. The basket measures approx 9.5" in diameter. 3.5" high from foot to the rim and ... more8.5" high from foot to the top of the handle. It's in really great condition. With no real visible tarnishing. It is in very nice condition for it's age(dates around 1900-1910) and carries a lovely patina. Which will be left for the collector to decide whether to shine up or enjoy as is. It has no dings,dents or pitting but does show some typical vintage wear marks and one ... moredarker area around the top rim. The platter top graduates into a shallow recessed bowl and it has a quilted floral and foliage design and a top swivel handle, very pretty! While the piece is heavy and stands flat and sturdy with no wobble. The top does have some very slight warping(as per the second photo) very common of hand made pieces of the time. It measures 9.25" wide across(diameter) x 11" high with handle up. Wonderful piece for display or function(pastries. Tufts footed circular plate or bowl measures 3 in high and across it is approx. 9 1/2 inches and the handle rises in the center to 5 1/2 inches when in raised position. The handle is very well attached at both sides On the bottom it has the James W. Tufts Boston info shown in the item's title with"Warranted Quadruple Plate" and the number 2768. What a stunning piece for a center piece on any table. The flowers included are a large cone flower. Wild roses, a large rose, daisies, sunflowers and pansies. The other designs are so beautifully etched in to blend with the floral design. The bowl/plate does not sit squarely on a table- it seems to slope to one side.
