Company ... more1843" This unusual piece has two large(3" diameter) reticulated(openwork) rococo medallions with winged cherubs tending a garden, one holding a watering can. The center has two embossed and engraved flying birds with a rising sun and stand of bamboo trees. It has a fancy floral handle and chased floral rim with four embossed feet. Size: 10.5" wide x 9.5" long and 11" high to top of handle. Condition: very good with little to no wear to silver plate and no scratches or repairs. There is a very light raised dent in center above pedestal base(not obvious really) that prevents the basket from sitting perfectly flat. It could be easily restored or you could place a small felt pad under to keep it level. A very unusual antique American silver basket circa 1875. It is unusual because the basket is"tilted" on it's pedestal. see pix 5) It stands 1 1/2" high on one end and 2 1/2" tall at the opposite end. It is about 8 1/2" high to the top of the handle. Pictures 11& 12 show the pedestal. This old basket is beautifully embossed with flowers. Leaves and scrolls. The handle features openwork and is securely attached. This brides basket is incredible and beautiful! PLEASE LOOK AT ALL 12 PICTURES)The basket sits on four rounded feet that are decorated with scrolls. Flowers and tiny leaves. Above that is a 1/4 inch band of scrolling work going all the way around. The mane band of the body has large campus leaves some round leaves, large flowers, small flowers and vines. Then there is another 1/4 inch band of scrolling work. The band that holds the glass bowl has a deep stripe pattern all the way around. The C shape connectors that connect the handle to the basket has flowers inside and out and round balls that connect it to the basket ring.The handle is a twisted handle. This silverplate basket has so much going on. It was made by Meriden, and marked on the bottom with an applied piece of silverplate Meriden silver plate Co. No 7017 and a lion holding a ... moretrophy in the middle, this mark dates it to(1869. There is no silver plate missing and no broken metal. This piece was sealed years ago to keep it from turning black, it can be removed by soaking in hot water over night then peal off. The glass fluted bowl was made by L.G.WRIGHT IN 1937. And it is marked with a M with a line in a circle.L.G. Wright Glass Company of New Martinsville, West Virginia, started selling glassware in 1937. Founder"Si" Wright contracted with Ohio and West Virginia glass factories to make popular pressed glass patterns, like Rose& Snow, Baltimore Pear, and Three Face, and opalescent patterns, like Daisy& Fern and Swirl. L.G. Wright items are marked with an underlined W in a circle. The bowl is a daisy and fern pattern it is opalescent and very ice blue. The glass is bright and the pattern is clear. Its original Wright glass! There are no chips, or breaks to this wonderful glass bowl.The glass bowl is 10 inch diameter by 3 deep. And in this case we could not get a really great photo of the center with the boat and deer. There is more detail than is showing, but between light reflections and tarnish it does not show. There is a lot of detail overall, from the hammered look the rim has, with raised up birds and leaves, each of those areas is framed with a checkered border. The sides of the base a foot area are also very detailed. Made by Meriden#1663. Measures 9 3/4" across and 4" high to the edge of the base. Victorian Antique Meriden Quad Silverplate Footed Bride's Basket
Quadruple silverplate stand with cut glass bowl. Bowl is 8" in diameter and 2" deep. Not including the stem which fits into the base. Base span is 11"and it's 9" tall, and 5" across the footed base. Silverplate shows no signs of wear and needs polishing. The base is heavy and very ornate. The glass bowl has one very tiny chip(see last 2 photos) which is very hard to see. Bottom is marked"MERIDEN B COMPANY" with the number 186. The cut glass bowls were very popular in the 1890's but soon fell out of favor so they stopped making them in the 1890's. This particular one was made before 1896 as they stopped using the term"quadruple plate" in that year. This is a very beautiful and rare antique as not many of them were made and very few bowls have survived. Quadruple Plate, with a lion in the center and the number 1633 and also an A stamped. 10" diameter x 6-1/2" high to the top of the bowl. Close to 14" high with the handle up. Condition is fair overall. Inside the bowl the plating has worn a little thin and there are many fine scratches which confuse the appearance of the birds and flowers to a degree. The banding looks fine. The plating on the handle has worn off in places. Exposing the brass underneath. Aside from that, I would say the plating has worn a little but not badly. The piece is a little tarnished as well. I found it a little hard to tell if it is straight and level everywhere, and I tweeked it a little in a couple places, so I'll just say that it looks fine to me now, but you may have a better eye. If so, then you can just bend it the way you want it. All that being said. It is a pretty piece in my estimation, and well worth owning or restoring if you have that ability. As asset liquidators. A victorian silverplate brides basket bowl with pivoting handle. Made by the Meriden Company of Meriden Connecticut. Unpolished, No plating loss. No personal monogram present. Marked on the bottom with the traditional makers mark“Meriden B. Company. Quadruple Plate, 1887” Dates to the early 1900’s. Measures a full 10 inches in diameter. 4 3/4 inch base diameter, 5 1/4 inches to top rim and 12 1/2 inches to top of the handle. Condition is great as there are NO chips. This no-reserve auction is for a wonderful piece of Meriden silverplate that has survived these many years intact. The silverplate part has really nice detail. With leaves, birds, flowers, shapes and forms that exemplify old, Victorian pieces such as this. The glass insert sets perfectly and fits nicely. Overall, the piece is in very good condition- a few scratches on the glass due to use. The Meriden hallmark is on the bottom(please see photo) The piece measures approximately 6.5 at its widest point.
