Victorian 1800's RS Co Meriden Hummingbird Bee Aesthetic Brides Basket
This listing is for a lovely Rogers Smith Co Meriden basket from around the late 1800's-early 1900's with engraved Hummingbird and bee design-Signed by the artist on bottom!see photo of mark) It is a lovely piece with open daisy handle as well with the skirt having detailed aesthetic pattern as well as the side of the handles. The base and top flat area of rim are plain. And to bring out the effect of the piece I left natural patina from age on those areas. They I believe would shine up nicely if you choose. Some people like the patina, but the bowl would not have shown so beautifully if I had not shined it up. There are a few speckles that will shine up as well, but just wanted to give an idea of beauty of piece. The oval daisy area of the handle is a different metal, so that is probably the darkness it is, but is very pretty like ... morethat. It measures 10" across, 7 1/4" to top of basket with a 7" high handle. This piece would have been a stand alone with the engraving. Some pieces as you probably know were made to hold a glass piece, this one would not have. A tiny nearly invisible surface indentation shown in photo of flat edge with bee, just along that edge. Height to top of handle is about 11" Basket has a few dings on the rim and one on the underside. Base has a little bend but still sits nice and flat. No repairs are evident on the baske t or the handles. Basket has tarnish and wear to the silverplate and the etching on the inside bowl is well worn in some places. Exquisite antique bride's basket manufactured by the MIDDLETOWN PLATE Co. Founded in 1864 and subsequently taken over by the International Silver Co. It is difficult to pinpoint it's exact vintage. It has been estimated that this piece is c. 1899 to the early 1930's. The craftmanship on this piece is stunning from it's embossed rim to the art deco handle. Most notable, are the handle's antique craft work swivel attachments. This piece is in excellent condition, no denting, very light scratching, and in need of polish. With handle in the down position, this basket sits approx. 2 1/2" high on a blunted pedestal. When measuring with handle up, the piece measures approx. 8" high. The diameter of the piece is 9 1/4" set on a 4 1/4" in diameter pedestal.

I can only speculate as to the purpose, and I feel it must have held a bowl or basket, such as a brides basket. the base has a ram, a baby sheep and a bird. around the top where the bowl would sit, are grapes and leaves. the base is like rocky ground. the best description is the photos, so please take your time and view the pictures. the piece is 7.5" tall and the top is about 6.5" wide. condition is wonderful. Antique Footed Brides Basket from late 1800's when fb rogers was in Taunton. Ma. This is a fine piece with some scratches due it being used and old. There is no loss of silver plate just some tarnish that needs to be worked on if the new owner chooses. I like to see a little patina left to show it's age! If you can't see the maker's mark in the last picture it is Trademark 18(crown) 83 F.B.ROGERSSILVERCO Taunton,Ma. Quadruple and 0861.9 1/2" across.All of the joints that have been soldered are original and intact! The handle stands up by itself and is beautiful in the light. The feet are pierced with a finely made pattern that shows the kind of fine workmanship in that day and age. The edge is a rope pattern. I don't think this ever had a glass bowl or insert due the inscribed fancy J? in the center of the bowl. Notice ... morethe fine engraved flower and leave design on the inside as well. The bottom pedestal has alternating s cenes of what appears to be a young man& women. The bowl is a hexagon s hape and dips down somewhat where the handles me et the top of the bowl. I do believe it was mad e this way. It does have a few places of minor pit ting which are hard to see. Meas ures approx: 9" tall to the top of the han dle. The basket is 6" across at top of opening and the bottom pedestal is 4" across. It is approx: 4 1/2" from the top of the basket ... moreto the top of the handle. I am not sure what was in the bottom but I am going to leave up to the buyer to polish( although it is nice with the patina just as it is) or try to remove what i s in the bottom. Welcome. While cleaning& organizing, I came across this beautiful Victorian brides cake basket in silverplate by the Barbour silver co. This one is a scalloped oval shape with a bright cut design inside& lots of ornate features, especially the handle& the footed base. It measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" x 3 3/8" tall(without the handle up) About 10" tall with the handle up but it doesn't stay up very well. It's a little tarnished but I don't see any loss of the silver plating on it. It weighs right at 2 lbs. without the packaging. It will be sent insured.

What an impressive beautifully detailed basket recently acquired at an estate sale. I am not an expert in silver or silverplate. But will describe as accurately as possible. It is marked Meriden B Company, pattern is un known to me. There is also the number 311 on one foot I have also pictured. Measures 10" tall, width 5 1/2" and the base opening is 3 1/8" There is detailed"beading" all over on the handle, and even tinier looking beading around the outer rim of the bowl. For accuracy only, I will mention that there is a teeney tiny"miss" smaller than a pin head that I have pictured on the rim and another area very small area where I can feel roughness. This is a beautiful Antique Brides Basket from the 1800's. The bottom basket is marked"Barbour Silver Co. Quadruple Plate# 247. It has a round platform circular bottom. With an embossed 3 d flower in the center. The basket has two metal bars which form into one midway, as the handle. There is a rope design, which is entwined around the top metal handle. This design has detailed berries embellishments. On each side of the handle are large detailed raised 3d leaves(5) Hanging from the leaves are two dangling detailed berries, giving the basket a completed fabulous look. The insert bowl is blown encased glass. The exterior is a milk white, the edges are crimped and ruffled, giving the bowl a look of opulence. The edges are a deep fushia color fading lighter as it descends into the bowl, turning into a creamy white color. Over the white ... morearea there are hand painted raised pedal, delicate flowers in a baby blue, and each dotted with pink centers. The finishing detail is cascading leaves and alternating scrolls, all done in fine gold detailing. This piece has minor flaws, age appropriate pitting on the silver, which also needs a polishing if so desired. The edge of the rim holding the glass insert has some bending, however it is not seen when the bowl is in place. Minor gold loss on some of the detailed banding in the center of the bowl, again this can be easily rectified. Overall, it is a fabulous piece of history to add to your décor. Thanks for viewing.

The stamp on the bottom also states"quadruple" and"1887" With the handle raised, the piece is about 12 inches high. The plate portion is 10 inches in diameter. Up for auction is a very pretty Simpson Hall Miller& Co silverplate bride's basket. It is marked 1434 as pictured and has the maker's mark medallion as pictured. It says quadruple plate. It is in very good used condition. The basket has a very nice flower pattern. Stands 7" tall at the top of the basket, 12" tall when the handle is raised at the middle of the handle and 9" from handle to handle across the middle. For sale is an elegant Victorian period ornate-handled quadruple silver plated brides basket holder with a clear fancy glass bowl. The basket is in good condition: There are no dents or damage. Other than some scratches where the bowl and basket have been in contact for more than a hundred years. The silver plate seems to be all there; it's tarnished but should polish up well. The basket is 9" high and 9 1/4" at its widest. The bowl has an intricate design, including four rows of diamond shapes that have a gold cast to them. The bowl is 8" across and is in excellent condition: No chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs. Inside the bowl behind the top row of gold diamonds looks like hard water stains; however it's all the way around, so it I believe it must have been part of the manufacturing process. This is a top quality ... moreold set: The frame fits the bowl perfectly; it's a rare unmarried set. The bowl is unmarked. I believe the basket was made by Eagle Silver Co; it is marked and I can make out Silver Co. Quadruple, a picture of an eagle, and the numbers 474. This will make a nice addition to your collection. This charming bride's basket is quadruple silver plate. Number 2066, from Barbour Silver Co, Hartford CT, circa 1890s. The mark indicates that this basket was made between 1899-1898, prior to Barbour Silver Company joining the International Silver Co around 1900. The basket has molded cherries on a branch, with a highly stylized handle and four dainty feet. It is 5 1/2" round, and 4 1/2" high including the handle. This basket is in excellent condition considering it's age. Very ornate around the top with poppy flowers. The swing handle is very ornate and reticulated, and it stands on four ornate feet. The bottom is stamped with the Forbes circle mark with and Eagle Head, the word Quadruple, and the numbers 246. Good condition with some worn thru areas on the silver plating on the inside of the basket and on some of the details. It has some tarnish in areas, on the pattern details, on the handle, and on the feet. It has fine scratch wear from being used and polished and also has some larger scratches in areas. One end is a little bit lower than the other end and it may or ... moremay not have been made this way. It shows no signs of being bent. Measures approximately 7 3/4 inches tall with the handle standing straight up, the basket bowl measures 2 7/8 inches at the tallest, 11 1/8 inches long, 9 inches wide. Very nice Antique silver plated brides basket made by C.B. Barker Mfg Co in NY sometime between 1896-1915. There is some pitting. Plate loss, some back specs, and 1 tiny dent in the tray area. The handle will stand up. You just have to tighten the sides up a bit. Very pretty details from the etchings to the top finial on the handle. Please look at all pics. Victorian Rogers Smith Co Meriden Silverplate Mt. Washington Glass Brides Basket
This lovely Silverplate and Enameled Art Glass Brides Basket measure about 10-5/8" in diameter and 3-3/8" tall when assembled. The Silverplate bottom has a bit of tarnish and maybe missing a handle. The mount was produced by Rogers. Smith& Co. around during the last quarter of the 19th century. The company was out of business by'04. We believe the basket was produced by Mt. Washington Glass co. It is unsigned. The glass has some enamel loss, but is largely in very nice condition with no chips or cracks. The bottom of the bowl does have a polished pontil as would be expected.

This listing is for a Beautiful ART NOUVEAU Silver Plate Brides BASKET/ Center Piece. Circa 1890. The basket has the makers marks for WILLIAM BRIGGS& Co. which located in SHEFFIELD England- this silversmith was active at Wentworth Plate Works. 35 Andrew St. Wickes(1875-1922) apparently after 1900 their mark included the word Sheffield. The Basket is in very good to excellent condition with no damage. NO monograms and no signs of silver wear through. The basket is nice and sturdy with a weight of approximately 745 grams and measures approximately 10 1/2 inches across the handle by 3 1/4 inches to the edge of the bowl or approximately 8 3/4 inches to the top of the handle when in the up right position. The basket is beautifully decorated with what may possibly be Celtic Crosses in cartouches as well as impressed flowers designs. Please ... moresee my other items!
