Antique Victorian Silverplate basket Middletown Hard White Metal Quadruple Plate
Up for auction is this Victorian silverplate basket from Middletown Plate Company. Marks on the bottom include Middletown Plate Co. Quadruple Plate with a set of scales in the center. Underneath are the numbers 1633 1/2. Under that is HARD WHITE METAL. The basket is about 9 3/4 inches across and almost 4 1/2 inches high. Not counting the handle. With the handle extended, it's about 11 inches high. The floral pattern appears cut into the metal. In the center is what looks like a monogram, but I can't be sure what it is. Around the edge of the basket is a pattern of continuous shields. The bottom is unmarked except for the markings indicated above. The basket has wear consistent with its age. There are a few small dents in the rim which are more evident when looking at the bottom. There is some pitting on the interior. I am not sure ... moreif there is a slight depression at the monogram. But I can feel it. I am not sure how well this basket will polish up. The item in this listing is from a collector who had vast areas of interest. He housed his collections in temperature controlled buildings allowing access to only a chosen few. He was retired from the U.S. Army and had served in World War II and the Korean War. From a local estate. Here is a very old silverplate bride's basket. Marked"Wilcox Silver Plate Quadruple Plate 875" on the bottom, the basket is about 12 X 8 and stands 13.5" tall with the handle upright. Very ornate, features a figural bird on the handle and a deer under the basket. It sits a little cock-eyed but no breaks or repairs. A preliminary polish revealed heavy tarnish- it looks like the main body will not polish up but some of the decorative elements are silver plate and may get better. However, there are plenty of heavy spots of tarnish and oxidation too- probably best to enjoy this one in your shabby decor rather than with the good silver. Quadruple silver plating was the highest standard public grade. Bristol Plate Co is thought to be perhaps a trademark of the Poole Silver Co. the Poole Silver Company dates back to 1893. And was located in Taunton, MA. We could not track down the pattern name for this item, nor could we locate the approximate age, leading us to believe that this piece may be somewhat rare to find. Because of the design& style of this piece, however, we believe that it is from the late 1800s to early 1900s, but this is just our best guess. This beautiful silver basket has a very nice dark"patina" coloration) which is highly desirable among antique collectors. Which means that ... morethe darker patina gives the piece more value in the eyes of an antique collector. Though silver is beautiful when polished, many collectors prefer the that the patina to be left alone. Therefore, we are selling this item"as is" and we will allow you, the buyer, to decide whether or not you would like it polished. This gorgeous basket measures 11-7/8" long. 8" wide and is 2-1/2" to the rim. With the handle in the upright position, it measures approximately 9-1/4" to the top of the ornate handle. The bowl of the basket is ardorned with a delicate motif of open roses and scrolled leaves. The handle top shows a lovely daisy and leaf pattern that is topped with a center button. The handle is in wonderful operable condition and moves easily and will stay upright, and does squeak a little when raised, telling of its many years of use. There is one very small ding-less than a 16th of an inch- see photo eleven-upper right quadrant where the bowl rounds up to the rim) but other than this one small ding, there no other dents, dings or tears to the metal and no evidence of corrosion. This is a n elegant antique quadruple silv erplate bas ket by the Ba rbour Silver Co. It is marked"Made in USA Barbour Silver Co. Quadruple Plate 30" with the numbers 965-4 e tched in the bottom. It measures 6 1/4" x 4 1/8" and stands 2 1/4" tall(5.5" with handle extended) The condition is very good with some wear in the very bottom of the ba sket. We have tried to show this is the photos. Lovely antique silverplate bride's basket was made by Meriden Britannia Company in Meriden. CT. It is marked on the base and also has the style number 1690. Basket measures 11 ¼" long by 8 5/8" wide by about 4 inches tall. Basket is in fair condition with light scratching and some possible plate loss. Lovely design features heavily beaded edge, Greek key border and central floral design. Handle is still tight and has an engraved"B" at the top(Olde English style) Wavy, possible warped edge/rim. This beautiful plate(or basket) is etched with a floral rose design. This style plate on a pedestal has been referred to as a Wedding Plate. Handled Brides Basket, Bridal Basket, Cake Basket, Calling Card Tray and a Brides Calling Card Basket. The mark on the bottom is a full circle and reads: Quadruple Plate, Wilcox Silverplate Co, Meriden, Conn and the#2772(I believe, the# is difficult to read) It measures approx 9" wide at the top, the plate is 5" tall, 11.5" to the top of the handle and 5.25" across the bottom of the base. The Wilcox Silver Plate Co. started in 1867. The company trademark(crossed hammers in full circle) remained in use through the acquisition of Parker& Casper Co. in 1869 and the formation of the International Silver Co. in 1898. The half circle mark was not used until the 1920's. This dates ... morethe plate between 1867 and somewhere in the 1920's. Putting it at 90 to 100+ years old. Description: This is a silver footed quadruple-plate Victorian bread or wedding basket made by the Bristol Silver Company. Pattern# 61283. Quadruple silver plating was the highest standard public grade. Bristol Plate Co is thought to be perhaps a trademark of the Poole Silver Co. the Poole Silver Company dates back to 1893. And was located in Taunton, MA. We could not track down the pattern name for this item, nor could we locate the approximate age, leading us to believe that this piece may be somewhat rare to find. The bowl of the basket is ardorned with a delicate motif of open roses and scrolled leaves. The handle top shows a lovely daisy and leaf pattern that is topped with a center button. Condition: This beautiful silver basket has a very nice dark"patina" coloration) which is highly desirable among antique collectors. Which means that the darker patina gives the piece more value in the eyes of an antique collector. Though silver is beautiful when polished, many collectors prefer the that the patina to be left alone. The handle is in wonderful operable condition and moves easily and will stay upright. And does squeak a little when raised, telling of its many years of use. Up for your consideration is a beautiful Antique bridal basket holder. It has a stamp on it but I can't read the entire thing. It says_ silver plate co Boston and quadruple plate and the number 868. Because of its location its hard to read. Some of the designs are disconnected from the holder and need reattached. There is some bending of the holder and wear on the silver. Border rim on basket is beautifully engraved with birds, dragonflies, flowers and nudes figures and cherubs, center of base is a full figure cherub holding what looks like a hand mirror. This piece has a few issues. First 2 of the legs have separated from the spacer(I don't' know exactly how to describe that piece see the last 2 photos) causing the spacer to be crooked(please see photos 7 thru 10) the handle on 1 side is bent at the bottom, and about 1" of the flat rim overlay over the handle has separated from handle proper, some wear to the plating in spots. Here is a quaint silverplate serving basket with ornate handle from the later 1800's. I couldn't find a trademark but it does say"Quadruple Plate" on the backside. Other than patina. It's in pretty perfect condition and needs to be cleaned. The leaf cutouts are elegant as is the angled handle. Beautiful quadruple silverplate footed basket with bird handles. Someone else sold the same one on eBay a few months ago. They had it listed as a brides basket. I am not so sure since it is rather small for a brides basket. Thought it might be a condiment holder in which case the glass piece is missing. Either way. It is very pretty. I polished it as it was completely black when I found it. It will clean further but it took a lot of polishing to get it this clean. One foot appears to have been fixed. There are soldering marks along the top of the foot where it meets the rim of the base(see photos) Mainly evident from the inside but you can see a light excess mark along the rim on the outside. One scallop along the rim seems to be slightly pressed in(see photos) Circa 1900- 1925 Hallmark Rockford Silver P. Co. This is so pretty! Beautiful Roses and leaves in the basket. Ornate handle and swans on the feet. There is a crack that I didn't even see at first, but I have shown it in the pics listed. In my opinion, it is still beautiful and doesn't really show. The basket has ton's of patina as I prefer it this way. Antique Victorian Brides Basket Wilcox Quadruple Silverplate Etched Birds Bees
This is a beautiful Silverplate Bride's Basket. Marked on the bottom: Quadruple Plate; Wilcox Silverplate Co. Meriden. Conn. 163 3 1/2(see photo#8) It stands approximately 12 1/2" tall to the tip of the handle and is 10" across the bowl portion. The inside of the bowl has a beautiful etched pattern of 4 birds(appear to be hummingbirds) over an arrangement of flowers and leaves with a little bee just to the left of each bird. The bowl rim is trimmed with a bell shaped pattern that has texture to it. Handle folds down and the top center has an open ring area for easy carrying that has 3 flower buds center top. The silver looks nice and shiny with only minor areas of tarnish that I'm sure will clean off easily. Condition is excellent. I'm not saying it's perfect and you may find a small ding or dent upon close examination. ... moreBut none are clearly visible. It has been treated with care over the years. Tufts Boston Warranteed Quadruple Plate 3741. The plate is in very good condition. Showing little or no wear. The bowl has an overall engraved bird butterfly leaves and flower design. It has a fancy hinged handle that lays down and it is raised on four fancy pierced feet. It measures 10.5" to the top of handle and 3.5" tall to the rim and 9.5" across. This beautiful basket dates from the 1880s. No dents or repairs it is in beautiful condition and the silver plate is also in very good condition.
