Antique Wilcox Silverplate Quadruple Plate Handled Wedding Plate Brides Basket
This beautiful plate(or basket) is etched with a floral rose design. This style plate on a pedestal has been referred to as a Wedding Plate. Handled Brides Basket, Bridal Basket, Cake Basket, Calling Card Tray and a Brides Calling Card Basket. The mark on the bottom is a full circle and reads: Quadruple Plate, Wilcox Silverplate Co, Meriden, Conn and the#2772(I believe, the# is difficult to read) It measures approx 9" wide at the top, the plate is 5" tall, 11.5" to the top of the handle and 5.25" across the bottom of the base. The Wilcox Silver Plate Co. started in 1867. The company trademark(crossed hammers in full circle) remained in use through the acquisition of Parker& Casper Co. in 1869 and the formation of the International Silver Co. in 1898. Intricate beading along bottom and top edging, and the letter"R" on the front and the manufacturer's logo on bottom. This would be lovely polished, but as I and many others have allergies to certain chemicals I will leave the polishing up to the winner bidder. Antique Victorian Aesthetic Period silver plated handled serving basket by Rogers& Bro. Beautiful motifs featuring suns. Flowers, leaves, and architectural beadwork and such. The bottom features a group of hand engraved peacock feathers. Really nice example of this type of item. Even the four corner feet are beautifully detailed with scrolls and vines. The big flaw is that the handle needs a simple repair- it has broken off at the hinge and a couple of dollops of solder should fix that as the mechanism that it moves on is intact. This came out of my grandmother's house and will make a perfect addition to someone's collection. It measures roughly 10" by 12" by about 10" high to top of handle. Real ornate and fancy old antique Meriden Silver Company Silverplate handled and 4 footed brides basket. Its a leaf form in bowl. It is marked in a small circle with the Meriden Company mark on a bottom base foot but I was unable to get a clear undistorted close up of it. Basket has no damage. This auction is for a Victorian silverplated basket with a swing handle and grape motif. The basket is in excellent condition. There are a few mild spots of tarnish. Because I did a quick polishing job on it. The Wilcox mark is not very well struck. The diameter of the basket is 8 3/4 inches across the top, and the handle stands 9 inches above the table top when raised. I use First Class Mail. The sides of the plate and base have an embossed berries, leaves and flowers design. The base unscrews from the top for easier carrying. The piece was likely originally sold as a Cake Basket and is very versatile as a cake stand. Dessert or card tray or as part of a floral arrangement. Inside the foot of the base is marked"Quadruple Plate, Rockford Silver Plate Co 1814" with the Rockford scales logo. The piece likely dates to the late Victorian Era. Stamped on the underside of basket is Pairpoint Mfg Co Quadrupple Plate 1244. This was made in the USA c 1900. Pairpoint Mfg Co was in existence from 1880 till 1958 but did not make silverplate after 1929. Approximate Size: 10 inches by 4 inches tall and 10 inches high(to top of handle) Weighs 1 ¾ pounds. The basket is a little warped out of shape after a 100 years and that gives it some character to it and it needs to be gently bent back into shape but quite useable as is. Hallmarked Silverplate Handled Casserole Basket w/ Pyrex Liner & Lid
I can't find a maker or origin mark. But there are some hallmarks(see photo) on the bottom of the basket. No corrosion. Bending, creases, gouges or other marring. The silver could use a good polishing. I polished a small section with Simichrome polish, and found that the silver takes a bright shine. The 2-quart Pyrex glass bowl and lid are in excellent condition. As well. No chips, cracks, stains, flakes or other marring. The lid has Pyrex's old-time copper-wheel engravings of leaves. The lid carries the embossed size number of 134.
