Antique silverplated brides/cake basket by Rogers Smith and Co.
Bride/ Cake Basket Roger Smith and Company Silver Plate Circ. 1867- 1902 Up for auction is a silverplate bride’s or cake basket by Roger Smith and Company. I believe it is in the Medallion Pattern which is very old. There appears to be very small almost pinpoint pit marks in the base of the“bowl of the basket. However the rest of the basket appears to be so mint one would think it had been re-plated. Overall the basket is in excellent condition commensurate with age. Please review the pictures. I believe the stamp in the picture on the bottom says pairpoint with the P in the middle of the stamp. Antique Victorian Pairpoint Quadruple Plate Brides Basket w/ Cut Glass Bowl
This Pairpoint bride's basket measures 11 1/4" in height and 10 1/4" at the widest part of the handle. The pedestal base has a diameter of 4 5/8" and will fit a bowl with a bottom rim of approx. 3 3/4" The basket is stamped on the underside- PAIRPOINT MFG CO. QUADRUPLE PLATE- 4732 1/2" and has the'P' inside of a diamond logo(pic#5) I am unsure of when this piece was made but Pairpoint advertised a very similar pattern on smoking accessories in 1908. There is some wear to the plate on the handle(pic# 6.7) The cut glass bowl has a diameter of 7 1/4" and measures 3 1/4" in height. There are no chips, cracks or repairs to the bowl; however, there is a small"flea bite" pic#10,11) on the side of the bowl and straw marks/ air bubbles can be seen in the base(pic#12) Both pieces will be packaged ... moresafely. This Victorian quadruple silver plated bride's basket has a lovely fluted-cased glass bowl. The pink of the plate's ruffle gradually flows down to a very pale pink to a white center. The underside is white and has a hand written"259" on the back. The plate is in good condition given its age-no cracks. Breaks, chips. The gold in some of the embossed flowers on the plate have faded. The plate basket has scroll work and balls at the top and sides. There is ornate relief work and bead work around the base and the four feed also are ornate. The holder's silver plate needs polishing but it appears to be intact-no dents. Inside the base is an attached tag that reads"Barbour Silver Co Quadruple Plate" The bowl measures 9 7/8" across at its widest; 2 1/2" high at its tallest; 3 1/4" across the foot. Hallmark on bottom also says"hard white metal" amongst other identifying info. Either fortunately or unfortunately, depending on one's taste, someone painted it gold and did a fine job of it. For your consideration is this gorgeous antique Victorian brides basket. The silverplate holder is marked Wilcox Silver Plate Co. I am unsure of the maker of the Peach Blow glass basket. The basket has a wonderful enamel scroll pattern. Originally there was some gold detail. But only traces of gold are left. This is quite a large piece. The glass bowl measures 3 1/8" high x 11 1/2" top diam. the holder 12 1/4" high x 13" at widest point. Other than the gold wear it is in excellent antique condition. Antique Silverplate Repousse Dutch Folk Scenes brides tulip basket , Circa 1839
Procured by an antique dealer in Belgium. This amazing repousse silverplate basket depicts family and farm scenes in 19th Century Holland. It has been lovingly used as a tulip flower vase as evident from the wear inside. Notice the weeping sides on the piece made so that tulips lay naturally inside. It has a Dutch triple x in a shield hallmark indicating it was made in the city of Breda. The Breda shield is flanked by a W and R hallmark and stamped with the pattern number: 83647. The asking price reflects the fact that the handle is slightly misshaped and it is missing plating inside the piece, however the outside plating and the handle plating are perfect. It simply needs to be polished as it has earned its long patina of 175 years of age. I bought this stunning piece from a european antiques dealer and have filled this basket with long ... morestemmed french tulips on my side board for many years. Gorgeous! This is a beautiful Silverplate Bride's Basket. Marked on the bottom: Quadruple Plate; Wilcox Silverplate Co. Meriden. Conn. 163 3 1/2(see photo#8) It stands approximately 12 1/2" tall to the tip of the handle and is 10" across the bowl portion. The inside of the bowl has a beautiful etched pattern of 4 birds(appear to be hummingbirds) over an arrangement of flowers and leaves with a little bee just to the left of each bird. The bowl rim is trimmed with a bell shaped pattern that has texture to it. Handle folds down and the top center has an open ring area for easy carrying that has 3 flower buds center top. The silver looks nice and shiny with only minor areas of tarnish that I'm sure will clean off easily. Condition is excellent. This fine antique Aesthetic Victorian circa 1870s pedestal footed cake or brides basket by Rogers& Bro. of Waterbury, CT. This silverplate basket is ornately decorated on the inside of the basket with gorgeous chased Hummingbirds among the beautiful meadow flowers. The center of the basket has a village scene on one half of the medallion and a lovely swallow type bird on the other half. The rim is also very ornately adorned with squirrels, birds, beetles, butterflies, mice and bees with many flowers. I have loaded many photos as part of the description and to show the detail. I lightly polished this basket and there is some minor silver loss to the very bottom that does not show. There is also a very tiny ding to the rim on both sides where the handle has dropped from use on each side. All and all this cake basket is in very nice well cared for estate condition and the silver craftsmanship is exquisite. The bottom is marked with the makers mark for Roger& Bro. This firm was established in 1858 at Waterbury, CT. by Asa Jr. and Simeon Rogers. They first produced primarily flatware until 1874 and then began producing some of the best and most ornate hollowware such as this basket. They were one of the first firms to join the International Silver Company in 1898. Antique Farber Kraft Quadruple Plated Brides Basket/ Hand Hammered Plated Brass
Antique brides basket/vase is quadruple plated silver on hand hammered brass with a pierced rim and Greek key design on the handles. It has a few small dents on two of its sides and some plate loss on the top part around the vase opening. But otherwise in pretty good condition. I polished this to gauge its condition, but didn't get into every last corner, so there is some tarnish left on it that can come off. It is an early 1900's piece marked by Farber Kraft- not to be confused with the Farber Brothers Krome Kraft company that SW Farber's younger brothers formed on their own in 1915 and from then on marked their goods with"brothers" included in their mark. But if this was handmade by S.W. Farber himself( the founder of the Farberware company) One of his two younger brothers before they ventured off on their own to form ... moretheir own company, an apprentice of S.W. Farber, or some other related Farber in the same business, I do not know. Taken from the Farberware company website: Farberware® traces its roots back to the year 1900 when S.W. Farber. A tinsmith, set up shop on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. There, in a small dismal basement shop, he pounded sheets of copper and brass into various shapes to make bowls and vases. Antique Victorian era brides basket in very good condition with original glass basket that fits perfectly. It is approximately 12 inches tall x 10 inches wide. At widest point, handle of basket) The base of the silver plated basket is approximately 4.5 inches wide. The quadruple plated silver basket was made by the MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. See mark in picture provided. I have included a bit of MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO. history below. There are also some numbers on the bottom of basket and part of the marking says, HARD WHITE METAL" I polished the basket prior to taking pictures so that you can see much of the silver is gone from years of polishing. But there remains a nice patina. The metal basket is sturdy and sits level. It has a beaded rope design with flowers and tassels on the handle. The base has flowers and what seems to be an Asian influenced ... moredesign. See pictures. The glass brides bowl is white with a teal color around the ruffled edge. When held up to the light the glass takes on a pearlescent look. See picture. It measures approximately 7 inches in diameter. It does have one barely noticeable chip in the glass. See pictures. Your eye is not immediately drawn to this and it does not detract from the beauty of the piece. This little basket is great to use for teas. These particular baskets were all the rage in the late 19th Century for bridal gifts. Manufactured by the Bernard Rice& Sons Silver Co. prior to 1899. Bernard Rice& Sons merged with Apollo Silver and Shepard and Rice prior to 1899. The entire piece from bottom to top of upright handle measures 13 inches high. Just the basket measures 8.25 inches high and the ruffled rim is 5.5 inches wide. There is no plating wear that I can see and no bends in the design. The hinges on the handle are perfect and it has the ORIGINAL glass insert for the flowers. This piece is in awesome antique condition!

Antique Silverplate Repousse Dutch Folk Scenes brides basket 1800-1850
Antique repousse silverplate basket with handle. Scenery represents 19th Century Holland I believe. I have used it for flowers over the last 10 years or so in my kitchen. The silverplate is missing/worn through in a lot of areas and the copper base metal is noticeable. In my opinion. It doesn't detract from the beauty of the piece, but certainly effects the value. It has a Dutch triple X in a shield hallmark indicating it was made in the city of Breda. The Breda shield is flanked by a W and R hallmark and stamped with the pattern number 83642. Overall the piece has become slightly misshaped over the years and it is missing plating. However it still sits nicely and holds flowers or whatever. It is 7 inches in diameter and 13 inches tall. Tufts Boston Warranteed Quadruple Plate 3741. The plate is in very good condition. Showing little or no wear. The bowl has an overall engraved bird butterfly leaves and flower design. It has a fancy hinged handle that lays down and it is raised on four fancy pierced feet. It measures 10.5" to the top of handle and 3.5" tall to the rim and 9.5" across. Antique Vintage Victorian Hand Painted Brides Bridal Basket Beautiful!
This is a Very Pretty Vintage Victorian Bridal Basket. The bowl is hand painted. I haven't seen one of these with this much design painted on it before. Very nice. It looks like it also had a gold/silver color stenciling of the leaves around the flowers. But some of it has rubbed off in time. Bowl is in excellent condition, with only one very small chip/flee bite on the rim. Hard to see it unless you turn it just right. Bowl also has a few black marks, and/or rubs on it from wear. Pic#4) I believe the basket is silver plated, but not positive. It does have some green patina/corrosion from age. Can probably be cleaned up if buyer chooses to do so. Pic#6) Basket rocks a little bit when set down. Bowl is about 11" across. Basket is about 12" across, and about 12" tall. ANTIQUE BARBOUR CO. SILVER PLATE BRIDES BASKET BOWL FRAME - AESTHETIC DEER HEAD
Up for auction is a very nice silver plated brides bowl or brides basket frame for an art glass bowl or insert. Much like the ones made by Mt. Washington or the Bohemian glass houses of Europe at the turn of the last century. This frame has a very nice design with shells around the perimeter of the base, scrolls on the four legs and feet and most whimsical of all it features a stag or deer's head on either side of the handles. This is clearly marked"Barbour Bros Co Silver" and"Quadruple" as well as the numbers"233" There is wear to the plate but it still displays just beautifully. The diameter of the base where a bowl or insert would rest is 4-1/8" The larger diameter that rises up at this base is 5.25" There is a distance of 8.75" between the handles at the widest. And the distance between ... morethe base itself, where the bowl would rest up to the underside of the top of the handle is 8.75" The overall height is 13" and it's approximately 9.5" wide. There were many very fine and high quality silver plate manufacturers during the later 1800's through the early 1900's. These included Pairpoint. Meriden, James Tufts, Wilcox Silver, Derby Silver and Rockford Silver Plate Co. This piece is made by the Barbour Bros Co. which was originally organized in 1892 in Hartford CT. It eventually became part of the International Silver Co. in the late 1890's. There is one issue to note. In that the inside handle, where it meets the outside handle has separated at the joint. This is visible in the first photo on the left towards the top of the piece. This is actually not very noticeable as it can be gently pushed back into place and will stay. The strength and stability of the piece is not compromised however and it's very sturdy. Other than this one small issue, I see no other breaks or cracks or repairs to this frame. Up for auction is a beautiful and LARGE brides basket or brides bowl frame made by James W. Tufts of Boston. MA. Tufts was one of the best manufacturers of this type of fancy Victorian goods during the late 1800's when these were in high fashion. This piece is large and is just beautiful and in wonderful condition as well. There is minimal to no loss at all to the silver plate. The piece stands about 17" tall overall. The base or bed has a dimpled pattern which gives it added character. This is 5.5" across. The two side pieces have a width of about 6-1/8" The width of the handles at the widest is 8" Interior. The height from the base or the bed to the underside of the top of the frame is 10.5" The four legs have storks or herons and there are also acanthus leaves adorning the frame.
