Beautiful, Hand Carved Rosewood Settee
This is a beautifully hand carved Victorian Settee. It is made in solid rosewood. The dimensions are 58" wide X 45" high X 32" deep. There is a missing front foot. It broke and we lost the pieces. The carvings on this settee are not applied. They are carved into the supporting wood structure. The rose carvings are of exceptional quality and 1.5" thick in places. Lovely antique walnut Rococo Revival settee in a graceful serpentine style. It has beautiful floral and leaf carvings in the center back crest. Along with finger rolls. A floral carving also appears in the center of the seat rail, finished with carvings flowing down along the rail sides of the cabriole legs, ending in claw feet. The arm rests end in a matching claw pattern. The settee is wonderfully upholstered in a cranberry colored Amboise striped velvet. Camera lighting makes the color appear somewhat pinkish; however, the fabric is a true cranberry red. This is a wonderful tiger sawn oak. Victorian-age carved bench with barley twist posts, barley twist supports, carved cupids on all three ... moresections of the back and carved cupids on the front stretchers. Leaf carving is everywhere on this piece, including the seat, sides and top. It has a triple cane back that is in very good, usable condition, and the seat has been replaced and there is a red crushed velour, leather-style suede fabric that looks great against the dark original finish of the bench. This bench probably dates from the 1880s, and is of European origin. It’s in fantastic condition, with no breaks, all tight and sturdy. In person it’s amazing, with the cupids and other carvings that are pierce carved along the back, including flowers, leaves and pineapple finials. The overall size is 59 inches wide, 24 inches deep, 48 inches to the top of the post, 29 inches high to the arm, and 19 inches high to the seat. In its original finish, it’s incredible that it hasn’t been damaged or broken along the way, as fragile and delicate as it is. You’d really have to look around for quite a while to find a bench to rival this settee. Hand inlay with many different woods and with mother of pearl! They have hand carved ball and claw feet and very unique shapes. That more then makes up for ugly fabric. Antique Victorian Eastlake Rocker Loveseat Settee Great Wood Carvings Upholstery Need a couple of nice Victorian pieces for those finishing touches in a room. Do not miss these pieces. Recently picked them up at an auction. The wood on these pieces is just beautiful. Probably made in the 1880s to 1890s. I think the wood type is mahogany. But may be walnut, you be the judge. The carvings and scrollings are all still intact and were nicely done. The rocker was certainly used more than the settee and shows wear on the arms to the finish. On the left side of the settee the frame has a split in it that was corrected sometime quite a while ago. There is a bolt thru the repair that was not a part of the original piece. See the pic. I picked this piece up in the condition it is in, so cannot speak to when it was reupholstered, but it was done well ... moreand with a material that is very attractive and heavy, no flimsy stuff here. The pieces are all still tightly together at the joints. The rocker still has both its' springs. The roller wheels are both on the settee's front legs. The rocker is 39.25" tall. Up for sale is an exquisite gem from the late 1800's! This piece is absolutely stunning with its walnut wood carved detailing around the back and center oval"medallion" This settee is sure to make your home look very elegant and will add so much character and charm to any room of choice. This piece seems to have an"attitude" as it is guaranteed to stand out from anything else! The upholstery work is pure perfection! It is a somewhat"rough" silky texture. From pictures and from a distance it looks very very pale pink. But if you look closely at one of the pictures listed that had the flash on, you will notice that it is actually a sheen cream color. The upholstery is very much A+++ quality(not cheap,and hard to find) it's thick and very durable(not that you'd be rough housing with this piece) but that ... moreis something one should always look out for! As far as any defects to the wood work. There are no major ones, maybe a few light scuffs here or there but nothing major. When you sit on the settee you sort of"sink" slightly, but that is common in these older pieces. The whole piece is very sturdy. Although the back slightly moves if you physically take your hand and push it back and forth, nothing to be alarmed about though! Keep in mind that it is over 120 years old, I think anyone's back at that age will have a little wear! Haha! A wide rolled crest rail offers a center fan carving flanked on either side by Eagle heads carved in profile. Rolled arms feature Acanthus carved leaves leading down to a wide seat rail ending again. Lovely Antique French Settee or Loveseat with Original Tapestry
Wonderful antique French settee from the late 1800's with the original tapestry or needlepoint of two lovebirds and a flower basket. The back of the settee has been re-upholstered in the past and probably gimp was replaced then as well. The settee is painted in a creamy butter color with signs of age in places. If the buyer wants to re-upholster. Two pillows could be made from the old original tapestry which would be wonderful(even with the wear to them) Carved ribbon and acanthus loaf detailing. It is a tour de force of the Classical motifs of the day. Handcarved and fully embellished. Starting from the top, note the beautiful carved scrollwork cresting a panel of crotch mahogany encased in brass and rosewood borders. The flanking cornucopia are beautifully expressed with fruit flowing over almost reminiscent of the Salem McIntyre school. The arms are wide scrolled of a mahogany that has an old historic surface underlying a current French polishing.
