Beautiful antique mahogany Victorian sofa. With floral hand carvings, in the Camel-Back style This is a solid piece of furniture. Grab the sofa at the top of the end wings and place your other hand on the center of the sofa seat. Try to wiggle the piece. You can't. Its solid. I have been told that this is because the leg piece that goes down the sides from the arms to the legs is a single solid piece of wood. Many sofas you may see have a split at the middle between the arm and the leg. This joint is what weakens and causes the piece to become wobbly and unstable. I have not had this piece'officially' appraised. But I have had knowledgeable antiques cognoscenti[long time dealers and auctioneers] tell me that the side legs being all one piece indicates an age of the piece being approximately the 1890-1910 era. Description Antique Victorian Style ~ Settee ~ Love Seat ~ with Carved Wood Trim(1850-1875) All fabric. Pillows, and cushions have been professionally restored and reupholstered. The restoration alone cost approximately $800. Solid wood frame shows a significant level of detail. The exact age of the settee is unknown. But based on the style, a furniture expert at Ivey Selkirk(high end auction house in St. Louis) has estimated that the settee was made between 1850 and 1875. That's 140-165 years old!
