Antique LOVESEAT 1880s Eastlake Newly Restored and Upholstered SOFA SETTEE
Antique LOVESEAT 1880s Eastlake NEWLY RESTORED and UPHOLSTERED SOFA SETTEE HISTORY: The 1994 earthquake destroyed all our furniture. Much of which was antiques collected over the years. After retiring to Florida, we looked to replace some items. We found this love seat and a chair which we are also listing stored in a barn and loved the lines. We then located a retired gentleman who had many years experience in restoring antique furniture. He spent a couple of months totally restoring the wood. Then he referred us to a local upholstering company who rebuilt the seat and back and covered it with this beige velvet. Everything under the velvet is totally new as only the frame existed originally. We chose beige as the other furniture in our living room had bright colors and designs. We dressed this loveseat up with fancy pillows to match or coordinate ... morewith the other bright colors in the room. DESCRIPTION: The gentleman who restored this loveseat said that it was from the 1880s and named EASTLAKE. We went online and looked at Eastlake furniture from the 1880s and found pieces very similar to this. MEASUREMENTS ARE: Floor to highest point in middle of back 34 1/2 inches; Widest part from outside arm ends 36 inches; Arm length 21 1/2 inches from back frame to end; and seat is 21 x 33 1/2. Floor to top of padded seat is approximately 14 1/2 inches. This is very low; however. This can easily be made higher with casters. VALUATION: We research similar items for sale and try to price anything we list competitively and usually below lowest comparable. We located same category items from just under three hundred dollars which needed to be upholstered up to several thousand dollars. As we are serious about selling this beautiful loveseat to move to a smaller place. We decide to offer it for sale for $695.00 which is about what we paid to have it restored and upholstered. Oak and tufted velvet fainting sofa built around 1890 Eastlake Co.
I have up for bid an Oak and tufted velvet fainting sofa. It was built around 1890. I believe, by the Charles Eastlake Company(you can tell by the Eastlake straight lines carved in the oak) with a heart carved in the top of the back. The back is removable and the two arms have 6 positions that they will crank down or up for comfort. This sofa was professionally recovered. The sofa also has carved feet. In the first picture the back is 43” tall. 62” wide and the seat is 27” deep. It is very comfortable. I noticed in the heart in the back there is a line on the fabric that I never noticed before but it doesn’t appear to be a flaw in the material. I just want to point everything out. This is a rare, beautiful sofa that will look great in your home. We have never seen one like this one before. Fine 1870s Eastlake Burled Walnut Settee/Sofa
The is an original"Eastlake" settee/sofa made of solid American Black Walnut with burl insets of the same. It is American-made. Probably around 1870 to 1880 in imitation of the designs made popular by Charles Eastlake. The entire piece has been reglued and refinished. It is very solid and sturdy. The center back stile, top rail, bottom rail, and arms are carved with graceful motifs characteristic of the"Eastlake" style and are inset with elegant burled Walnut details. It is important to note that while the piece has been restored and the wood, springs, and stuffing are in great condition, it should be reupholstered. From out non-smoking home… Gorgeous fainting sofa. Most likely 1880s, with beautiful Eastlake foliate incising. Beautifully upholstered in luxurious velvet. Rosy-burgundy with golden-green stripes. Velvet is high-end and may be silk. It has some wear, but is still lovely and functional. Lovely woodwork. Including a high pediment with an ornate shield, curved overlaid burled walnut panels, ornate vining incising, turned feet, fluted molding that curves around the rounded base of the couch, and carved base pediment. Original finish, not refinished and ruined. Condition is excellent for approximately 130 years old. There is wear to the upholstery. But it is still beautiful and useful. Very nice lines to this set. Settee has damage on one arm and will need to be repaired. Please see photos as I have tried to take photos showing what will need to be repaired. The two chairs are in good shade but when recovered could use a good overall tightening up. Fabrics can be used as is but does show wear. Settee is missing the two buttons that were once in each corner. Springs on one chair will need to be retied.
