Highly Carved Antique Victorian Rococo Loveseat Sofa - Pickup in NJ only
Up for auction is this beautiful Victorian Rococo loveseat with a magnificent. Highly carved walnut frame. It measures approximately 40 inches high and 66 inches at its longest point. The seat height is 16 inches. The seat measures 21 inches deep. If you measure from where the back of the frame where it touches the wall, to the front of the seat, it measures approximately 30.5 inches deep. It has its original 4 casters. The springs are in good condition. And there are no tears in the fabric. It does have a spot with some light staining, which we never noticed until we were checking it closely for the description. There's one repair on the end of the apron, which can be seen in two of our pictures. It is a 2 inch by 2 inch by 1.5 inch triangle. This is not part of the leg, only a part of the apron. No reserve. Exquisite Piece Was my mom's. She purchased it as an antique about 50 years ago It was sent to a very very bad man to have upholstered. And he stripped the fabric off only(Montclair, NJ) and kept her deposit. Anyway this is the real deal in antique sofa's. It has original horsehair stitching. Springs were updated in the 60's I believe. The wood work is in good shape. Has some normal wear from age, it just needs some TLC. The sofa is 6 feet from arm to arm, exterior measurement(about a 5 ft inside) it stands 32 inches high and about 33 inches deep. Also the rear back right leg was repaired at the joint where it meets the frame by a professional recently. The springs were redone in the 60-70's I think when my mom bought it. She paid $1200 then. for auction is a very high quality pierced carved walnut sofa. it is a large one being 73 inches wide at the widest point. 43 inches tall, 16 inches to the top of the sitting surface, with a sitting surface 22 inches deep. again a very high quality, very well carved piece. the roses are wonderful as well as the grapes and other carved details. my pictures as usual are very poor quality and do not show the detail of the carvings, but they are quite well done. i am not sure of the maker, possibly belter, but there were many great cabinet makers in the 1850's to 1880's. the sofa is museum quality, near mint condition. no damages i can see or find, very solid and sturdy. it belonged to an elderly lady who was moving in with her daughter. i bought it nearly 15 years ago. she said the sofa had always been in their family, stating that it ... morebelonged to her grandparents and that it was old when she was a child. i expect it was made circa 1860 or 70. it has the original brass casters and rolls like a wagon. the elderly woman had it recovered about 5 years before i bought it, so the fabric is about 20 years old but is actually new. the fabric is perfect as far as i can tell. also, this sofa is the most comfortable antique sofa i have ever sat upon. i have never been fond of the fabric and have thought of having it recovered, but since i have 15 or 20 sofas, i really did not find it necessary to do that and i have just lived with the fabric that is on it. i hope someone sees it that likes this fabric. the wood work need cleaned and polished as i have done nothing with it since i bought it and i will be glad to do that for the new owner if they would like for me to do so. i stuck it in front of the fireplace to take pictures, but will have to move it back into a room that is just stuffed full of things anyway, a beautiful piece, but i don't need it. i paid 2500 for it when i bought it, but i am starting it at 2000. it may be picked up at my home or shpped at the buyer's expense. i expect shipping anywhere is th

Being offered for sale is this Outstanding Victorian Rococo Revival Elaborately Carved Mahogany Sofa circa 1865. This 19th century sofa is grand and elegant and features beautiful ornate carved shells. Scrolls, foliate and floral on the triple serpentine crest-rail, with a highly carved serpentine seat-rail,full covered arms with carved arm supports, demi-cabriole styled legs with the original casters intact on the front feet we believe this sofa to also have its rich original finish. This fine sofa measures a total length of 82 inches. Height from the floor to the highest portion of the back measures 44 inches, seat length measures 60 inches, seat depth of 21 inches and seat height to the floor measures 16 inches and this sofa weighs approximately 95 lbs. This 19th century sofa offers grand elegance and style of a by gone era. The old vintage ... morefabric does show some staining and wear.but wouldn't this sofa be stunning redone in a period velvet or damask fabric! This sofa does show a repair on the left side of the crest-rail which I have shown a close-up picture of and very common with these old elaborate sofas and there is a small chip to the top of the back leg. THIS SOFA NEEDS WORK AND IS NOT READY TO USE This sofa has a serpentine shaped front with carved cabriole legs and original period brass casters. The entire frame is finger carved and very curvatious. The finish is probably original. The frame is in good solid condition. It retains its springs but they will need to be retied. I had the original silk upholstery recovered in Dallas at the Merchandise Mart. And they indicated that it was Italian. I don’t see any maker marks. So I can’t say for sure if it was made in Italy. This is a fabulous Victorian 1920's carved and burled walnut sofa. Amazing color and in fabulous shape. there is one small slit in each of the arms from where the estate had a doily pinned on each arm and it was pulled off when they were moving the sofa out cause it had darkened over the year. The men didn't realized it had a pin in it.can be easily remedied or can add another doily to each arm. I forgot to take pic of the small tufted roll pillow near each arm.they actually come out and can be used in other places on the sofa.they are so tightly in place I didn't realize that you can pull them out for another effect of the sofa. Its a beautiful teallish jadish color. Just needs to be cleaned a bit. All the tacks that are brass and antique are all tight and in place. the wood is spectacular. This is a solid mahogany federal- or regency-style early sofa with a detailed claw foot and carved legs that probably dates from the 1840s ... moreor‘50s era. With solid Mahogany construction. It was upholstered a long time ago in a dark cranberry fabric, that still looks to be tear-free and is probably very usable for most people. The springs are a bit used where they are starting to bounce back up after having been tied down. It has solid construction on the back plate with deep carved grooves in the center, which is very unusual. It has scrolled solid mahogany arms, coming down into a flame mahogany and satinwood banded frame box that follows the beautiful flame mahogany skirt. On the bottom it has an eagle head carved with a drape in its mouth, fruits and berries, and a big bold carved foot on the base. The back also has claw feet. The overall size is 96 inches long on the outside, and 6 feet long on the inside, 24 inches deep back to front, 39 inches high to the back, 33 inches high to the arm, and 18 inches high to the seat. Very nice and clean federal cornucopia carved setae with carved claw feet. Carved acanthus leaves scrolling down the curved arms ending in a floral rosette. Gadrooned scalloped front apron above very heavily carved cornucopia baskets of nuts and berries ending in large claw feet. This setae is smaller then the obnoxiously built larger sofa models which I also live equally but they don't fit just anywhere. We have cleaned this one since I pictured it and looks much better now. This is a really gorgeous brown walnut with black inlay incise carved Victorian sofa that dates from the 1870s or'80s. It has a fantastic center crest right in the middle. Along with incise carved panels and a clamshell notch carved on top. The sofa is all solid walnut, carved throughout, including the bulbous legs, the skirts, the arms, and the back legs and side pieces. It comes beutifully covered in an equestrian style motif, which is actually in outstanding condition with only a few minor wear marks, and looks amazing against the walnut. The most important part is the frame, and that is all intact and very tight. The overall size is 67 inches on the outsides of the arms, and 59 inches on the inside. For your consideration is a antique walnut parlor sofa. This piece measures in at approx. 6 foot 2 inches in length and at it's highest point in the center back is approx. 3 foot high. The piece is believed to be made of walnut and the estate's grand daughter believes the piece was in the family since the late 1850's- 1860's. The upholstery is very old and is unknown if original or not but it does have the right style for the era.
