The top of the frame or cr est rail f e atures a large round medallion of burl walnut. Flanked on each si de by burl panel s. Each corner has a swirled carving lea ding to open carvings separating back from the arms. The shaped hand rest offer incising and more burling. A roun ded seat rail is supported by ring turne d leg s. There is a repai r to the lower carvings between the arms a nd center(not really noticeable, unless upon close in s pection) These appe ar to be very solid and stu rdy and not an issue. I have shown this in the photos. The sm al l floral print fabric is in exc ellent condition showing only usage ware. No rips or holes. This is the perf ect settee for a bedroom. Antique American Empire Carved Mahogany Sofa Settee Circa 1830-1850
A beautiful American Empire sofa/settee. Amazing carved mahogany details with olive green mohair upholstery. Measures approximately 64 inches long x 24 inches deep x 34 1/2 inches tall at the back. The round fluted crest rail has downturned curved ends on either side with acanthus leaf carvings above a smooth curved back. The front of the arms have carved cherries. Pears, oak leaves, acanthus leaves, and nuts framed by a cartouche of C scrolls. Feather design carving on legs with paw feet. Possibly made in New York. There is overall fading on the upholstery along with a worn spot on the back, a tear on the side, and the trim is loose in one section(see photos) Appraised at 2,300. This settee has been well cared for and will provide many years of enjoyment for the new owner.

Raised on cabriole legs with brass castors supporting an overstuffed chenile upholstered frame. Scroll back rest with carved show wood details to front and centre. Condition The item has some signs of age and use however nothing in our opinion detrimental to it. As the images show there is slight dis-colouration stain to the upholstery to one side of the back rail. The main upholstery being original has slight signs of wear in places. The settee is ebonized and parcel gilt with additional brass fittings. The upholstery is a silky type polyester as far as I can tell. It has been newly upholstered and it is in excellent condition. The frame is solid and sturdy. The paint is in very good condition, there is some minor flaking of some of the gilt, see photo close-ups. It measures 62 1/2" wide by 26" deep by 28" high at the back.
