Parlor Sofa Walnut Civil War Era Carved Floral Roses Poppies Antique Upholstery
For your consideration is a antique walnut parlor sofa. This piece measures in at approx. 6 foot 2 inches in length and at it's highest point in the center back is approx. 3 foot high. The piece is believed to be made of walnut and the estate's grand daughter believes the piece was in the family since the late 1850's- 1860's. The upholstery is very old and is unknown if original or not but it does have the right style for the era. Please note on the back shot and zoom in on the very bottom underneath felt a section has started to detach. I have retained the nails and leave the re attachment to the new owner. Please see the zoom and be sure to look at all the stunning floral carving on this piece and get an idea of the overall seldom seen condition on this piece. Small settee. Frame is golden oak and dates from about 1865. It's been repainted. Overstuffed for modern comfort and reupholstered in a platinum silver toile with hints of indigo and gold with a matching brush fringe. The top of the center crest appears like it has the numeral 1 carved out of the solid round ball and I have no clue what that represents. It could be the first sofa they ever made of this style or something else of significance. This sofa has been reupholstered quite a while back and you can see where there is a worn spot in the center of the seat. Someone wrote on the back in faint letters. So that in case someone stole it out their house there was an id on the sofa, that I am not sure if it will wear out or wash off. The way the busy pattern of fabric is, it blends in and is hard to see. If you can’t see it in the pictures please let us know and we will send you another picture to show you. The frame is tight and sturdy. It is all good and usable with no rips or tears in the upholstery. The overall size is 59 inches across the widest point, 39 inches high to the top of the crest and 16 inches high to the seat. Arkansas. The house escaped being burned down during the Civil War. Her Father was a wealthy Doctor and Plantation owner. The upholstery guy told us a furniture historian came into the shop to re-cover this piece, and said JUST the back carving was worth $1500!
