The sofa is all tight and sturdy. The overall size is 68 inches wide on the outside of the arms, 48 inches wide on the inside of the arms, 28 inches deep, 38 inches high to the crest, 23 inches high to the arms and 16 inches high to the seat. The top of the center crest appears like it has the numeral 1 carved out of the solid round ball and I have no clue what that represents. It could be the first sofa they ever made of this style or something else of significance. This sofa has been reupholstered quite a while back and you can see where there is a worn spot in the center of the seat. Someone wrote on the back in faint letters. So that in case someone stole it out their house there was an id on the sofa, that I am not sure if it will wear out or wash off. The way the busy pattern of fabric is, it blends in and is hard to see. If you can’t see it in the pictures please let us know and we will send you another picture to show you. The frame is tight and sturdy. It is all good and usable with no rips or tears in the upholstery. The overall size is 59 inches across the widest point, 39 inches high to the top of the crest and 16 inches high to the seat. From out non-smoking home… Gorgeous fainting sofa. Most likely 1880s, with beautiful Eastlake foliate incising. Beautifully upholstered in luxurious velvet. Rosy-burgundy with golden-green stripes. Velvet is high-end and may be silk. It has some wear, but is still lovely and functional. Lovely woodwork. Including a high pediment with an ornate shield, curved overlaid burled walnut panels, ornate vining incising, turned feet, fluted molding that curves around the rounded base of the couch, and carved base pediment. Antique Chaise Lounge~Fainting Sofa/ Couch~1850-1900 Civil Era
This is a civil war era couch. Both sides of couch can go down to be a fainting couch. I have never seen anther couch like it before. I don't believe it has been re-stained or refinished from my experience in looking at antiques. I paid $800.00 for it in an Antique store in Ocean Beach about 10 years ago. This piece does not go in my mid-century modern home and I need to get rid of it. This piece needs some repairs: One inch clean rip on rear lower side. See picture. The padding. Made of straw and horse hair, see pictures, needs to be patched up and reupholstered. You can see the ripped padding in one of the pictures(In the picture under the couch, you can see I placed a blanket in there to catch some of the straw from leaking. Possibly needs to be reupholstered to satisfy our liking. The fabric on the couch now. I was told, was reupholstered ... morein the 50's of 60's. Dimensions are as follows: 78" in length when both arms are placed down horizontal to the ground 62" long when both arms are fully vertical. 1850 Empire Transition into Victorian Era Carved Walnut Sofa Couch, All Original
Antique 1850 Late Empire Style transitioning into Victorian Era. Carved Walnut Sofa. During this time period the Empire and Victorian styles were overlapping. One style was coming in, the other going out. This created some unusual and beautiful pieces of history in limited quantities. This sofa is made of solid walnut with walnut burl veneer accents. It has the early, referred to"Hairy Claw" type front feet. The construction is sound. Still contains the original horse hair stuffing, which is in perfect condition. No popped springs. Is a very firm but comfortable sofa that measures 88" Long. It has the pull-out type pillows which rest under the arms. See photo's- some veneer needs gluing and some is missing. The missing toe just needs glued back in place. Everything about this piece is original. I have seen this sofa, completely ... morerestored, sell for over $5000.

Super Rare! Antique! Pre Civil War Custom Made Plantation Era American Wood Frame Sofa Made in North Carolina in the 1830's for the Heindrichs Antebellum Plantation home North of Little Rock. Arkansas. The house escaped being burned down during the Civil War. Her Father was a wealthy Doctor and Plantation owner. The upholstery guy told us a furniture historian came into the shop to re-cover this piece, and said JUST the back carving was worth $1500! He also said the sofa frame is worth over $10,000.00 because of it age and condition. We were told to NOT re-finish the frame, that is what keeps its' authenticity!
