This sweet antique settee was recently brought in to my shop in Pennsylvania. It is an eye popping double take kind of vintage furniture. Miniature settee measures only approx 27" tall and 30" long and was intended for a small child(too large for dolls I think) The wood is a chippy shelac of some sort of light wood. Obviously vintage however I don't know how old it is exactly. Upholstered in a lace trimmed light pink stripe which is quite dirty. Antique LOVESEAT 1880s Eastlake NEWLY RESTORED and UPHOLSTERED SOFA SETTEE HISTORY: The 1994 earthquake destroyed all our furniture. Much of which was antiques collected over the years. After retiring to Florida, we looked to replace some items. We found this love seat and a chair which we are also listing stored in a barn and loved the lines. We then located a retired gentleman who had many years experience in restoring antique furniture. He spent a couple of months totally restoring the wood. Then he referred us to a local upholstering company who rebuilt the seat and back and covered it with this beige velvet. Everything under the velvet is totally new as only the frame existed originally. We chose beige as the other furniture in our living room had bright colors and designs. We dressed this loveseat up with fancy pillows to match or coordinate ... morewith the other bright colors in the room. DESCRIPTION: The gentleman who restored this loveseat said that it was from the 1880s and named EASTLAKE. We went online and looked at Eastlake furniture from the 1880s and found pieces very similar to this. MEASUREMENTS ARE: Floor to highest point in middle of back 34 1/2 inches; Widest part from outside arm ends 36 inches; Arm length 21 1/2 inches from back frame to end; and seat is 21 x 33 1/2. Floor to top of padded seat is approximately 14 1/2 inches. This is very low; however. This can easily be made higher with casters. VALUATION: We research similar items for sale and try to price anything we list competitively and usually below lowest comparable. We located same category items from just under three hundred dollars which needed to be upholstered up to several thousand dollars. As we are serious about selling this beautiful loveseat to move to a smaller place. We decide to offer it for sale for $695.00 which is about what we paid to have it restored and upholstered. VICTORIAN AESTHETIC MOVEMENT EBONIZED& UPHOLSTERED SOFA. C. LATE 19TH CENTURY This unusual Victorian Aesthetic Movement sofa is English and dates to the late 19th century. The frame of the sofa is ebonized with gilt highlights and the piece is presently upholstered with a dark blue corduroy fabric. The sofa measures 72"w x 26-1/2"d x 24-1/2"h and the seat measures 65"w x 25-1/2"d x 13-1/2"h. The upholstered arms and back of the sofa are rounded and supported by a series of turned spindles attached to a rail for each of the arms and the back. The upholstered portion of each arm is further supported on the front by an upright post carved with floral motifs. The seat is an"old sprung" seat with its original springs and webbing. The sofa stands on four turned legs ending in casters. Condition: The sofa ... moreis extremely sturdy. The frame has minor wear. Rubbing and minute scratches commensurate with its age. Oscar Wilde An Elegant Aesthetic Movement Ebonised Upholstered Occasional Settee Period Late Nineteenth Century Provenance: Unknown Date: c.1880-90 Height: 29 inches Width: 42 inches Depth: 21 inches(at maximum) The ebonised and parcel gilt button-back occasional settee of small proportions upholstered in ivory-yellow damask type material having a horseshoe shaped scroll carved and pierced show-back with carved supports and legs on the original brass castors survives from the Aesthetic Period of late nineteenth century England. The settee is in mainly good condition with the relatively recent button back upholstery of good quality. Mainly clean and tasteful and she does not need re-springing though there ... moreis a little sag to the webbing. The carving is all-present with no losses and the ebonisation is in mainly sound order with expected areas of wear in the right places, with an area of heavier wear present to the front rail. There has been one repair, to the back left leg though she remains stable and unaffected save for a visible hairline crack on close inspection. The aesthetic movement can be seen as the bridge to the arts and crafts style. It often had formalised. Restrained ornamentation, and was heavily influenced by Japanese decoration, knowledge of which flowed to the West in the nineteenth century through oriental imports. It rebelled against the lavish ornamentation and over-embellishment of the high Victorian period, and sought a purer, more precise level of expression. A dainty occasional settee that proves wonderfully stylish when strategically positioned. Its design perfectly showcasing the aesthetic movements key influences of the far east and the natural world. Superb Victorian Antique Small Walnut framed Sofa. Professionally Upholstered A simply stunning original piece of Victorian furniture. A charmingly proportioned sofa or chaise which has been expensively and professionally reupholstered with traditional materials through out. Excellent quality yellow damask material covering. Traditional webbing, springing and real horse hair stuffing. The backrest also being deeply button backed and filled with horse hair. Frame and legs are I think of walnut and finished with the original cast brass and porcelain casters. There is old traces of worm on one of the back legs but this is minor and obviously has long been treated. There are a couple of tiny marks on the fabric which can be easily cleaned. I have tried to picture them but they are faint and small. It is from a smoke, pet and possibly most damaging, ... morechild free home. All joints are tight and secure and it is ready to give the new owner and their children's, children many more years of service. One of a couple of pieces of furniture that I don't want to let go but my little house just doesn't have the space. It would love to live in more opulent surroundings. This fine French Louis XV Style Settee still retains it's original hand stitched Aubusson upholstery. The scene is a work of art, the back capturing a pair of Peacocks and a pair of Ducks in a meadow framed in a border of swirling foliage and acanthus while the seat depicts a wolf dressed in a Shepherd's clothing as he creeps up on lambs at rest in the pasture. While the textile has darkened with time and dirt and numerous areas have lost their weave, the overall fabric remains stable and in outstanding condition for it's age. The settee is a fine piece of craftsmanship, the molded frame crested by a demilune display of flowers with gilt highlights, the surfaces throughout with traces of polychromed red and gold wash ... moreover patinated mahogany. The legs are joined with pinned tenon mortise construction, resulting in a very sturdy and stable seating piece despite well over a century of enjoyment. The legs are carved carefully with the typical display of flowers among acanthus leafage and terminating in scrolling toes. A small plaque nailed to the underside of the frame reads"Ameublement Decoration Bellaco et Ses Gendres" presumably an early retailer of the piece. For anyone passionate about the Louis XV form. The matched flame grain frame has a very good finish with warm patina and numerous losses and touchups. See photos. Newly upholstered. The seat is firm on this antique furniture. Empire Carved Eagle& Lion Paw 1920 Antique Sofa. Newly Upholstered. A solid mahogany Empire design sofa was lavishly carved with lion paw feet. Eagle heads and classical scrolled arms about 1920. The original finish is very well preserved with minor mars and warm patina. Waxed and buffed. All that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. This sophisticated American made antique furniture has been newly upholstered. The frame is tight and strong and springs are firm. Carved wood and upholstered Jacobean style sofa ( late 19th century)
Carved wood and upholstered sofa in the Jacobean style of the early 18 th century. With rectangular back and scroll arms with carved facings. The carved seat rail above tapered square legs joined by arched acanthus scroll stretchers. Would have been rattan originally. But now has upholstered cushions. Late 19 th century Height 33 inches. Depth 32 inches, Length 92 inches. Item originally belonged to the estate of Ingvar Bergengren. Swedish business entrepreneur and Honorary Consul General to the Philippines, and brought to the United States in 1974 by his daughter. Within 10 days of sale. Circa 1860 Antique Victorian Hand Carved Re-upholstered Sofa
A very beautiful scalloped back 1860's Victorian sofa! The hand carved apron really sets this sofa off with pretty scrolls. Shells and feathers detailing. What an eye-catching design! There is a small piece of the wood missing from the apron and you can see this best in the fourth photo. The piece was reupholstered at some point in time with a cheery floral pattern. There is a small area of the fabric at the back top corner that has loose piping(please see the last photo) It could easily be glued down. There are white smudges on some of the wood trim.
