A fabulous example of early Victorian furniture showing classic period detail. The mahogany frame crafted into the sinuous rail of the button back rear seat pad along with the carved scroll detail are a real delight. Robust triple turned legs ride upon the original brass cap. White china casters and support the moulded frame that hosts the traditionally stuffed and well sprung seat pad. We have left the upholstery'as found' and would describe the condition as fair. 19th Century Fainting Couch, Day Bed, Psychiatric, Leather, Horse Hair On wheels
For your consideration is this 19th century fainting or psychiatric couch. Day bed or perhaps some other name. I am not sure because I am not an expert in antique furniture. Please view the images carefully and make use of the zoom tool. The auctioneer announced it as a day bed circa 1860-1870s with Lea ther. Horse hair stuffed cushion. And wood casters, but I will let the experts decide and if someone wishes to share that information with me, it will be most appreciated. Measures approximately 77" long. 28" across at the widest point, 25" tall at the curved end or head of the couch, and 17" tall where it is not curved. CONDITION: To me. It looks to be in pretty good condition for its age. The leather top looks pretty good overall, with age appropriate wear but I am not an expert. There are some buttons(or whatever they ... moreare called) missing. It has normal age wear and of course could use cleaning. Someone has painted the wood which I think is made up of oak and some other lighter wood but I know very little about wood. I could be wrong on what kind it is. RETURNS: Item is sold as is.
