Antique American Empire Classical Crotch Mahogany Sofa c1840~Magnificent
SquareTrade © AP6.0 This sofa is a n original ca. 1840 American Empire style built from solid Santo Domingo mah ogany moldings with cherry and white pine secondary woods and exquisitely veneered surfaces of bookmatched Santo Domingo crotc h veneer with whole crot ch veneer on lyre faces of arms. The base is constructed of half round and cove pattern all the way around front and sides. Very well formed and veneered. The double cyma-curved crestrail is classic American Empire. Significant positives about this piec e from the perspec tive of an antique f urniture restorer with over 30 years experience show that this piece stands out in at least 3 ways. The original veneering shows no sign of glue failure at all. It is amazin gly intact with very little damage. The finish appears to be original. In excellent condition, and finally, it appears ... moreto have been upholstered only twice- the second time ti me with s taples. Usually on a piece like this. The wood is literally riddled by several reupholsterings with tacks and nails and often requires serious repairs to the wood before it can be upholstered again. It was entirely hand made with the highest levels of craf tsmanship- no cut corners. Hand sawn. Hand planed. In other words, pieces like this are usually worn out and are done over so many times that they're no longer usable. Not this piece. It's one of the best p reser ved p ieces I've ever had in my shop- Golden Eagle Cabinet Shop. Negatives- at 170 years of age. One will want to av oid hard use. The re upholstery could use an application of gimp along the crest rail borders- a normal finishing touch not done yet. The original coil springs have diff erent spring so unds for di fferent places one might sit. And as befit s a dowager of mature age. There is a bit of lumpiness. V isually stunning with depth and vibrant color. This piece will proudl y be the centerpiece in your h ome. The recent upholstery was done by the previous own er and needs some refining- a simple ta sk for a good upholsterer. This

A beautiful American Empire sofa/settee. Amazing carved mahogany details with olive green mohair upholstery. Measures approximately 64 inches long x 24 inches deep x 34 1/2 inches tall at the back. The round fluted crest rail has downturned curved ends on either side with acanthus leaf carvings above a smooth curved back. The front of the arms have carved cherries. Pears, oak leaves, acanthus leaves, and nuts framed by a cartouche of C scrolls. Feather design carving on legs with paw feet. Possibly made in New York. There is overall fading on the upholstery along with a worn spot on the back, a tear on the side, and the trim is loose in one section(see photos) Appraised at 2,300. This settee has been well cared for and will provide many years of enjoyment for the new owner.

l American Empire Victorian c 1890s Mahogany 86" long Sofa Cream-on-cream
This is a lovely 86" empire style sofa in excellent. Clean and offensive odor-free condition having most recently been reupholstered in the mid 1980s with lovely cream-on-cream brocade. The sofa has been in a pet-free and smoke-free environments for at least the last couple of generations. There are no stains or tears on the fabric and the wood is in excellent condition. Evidently there was originally a decorative molding in the center of the back, but the to insertions holes wer, long ago, filled with matching mahogany plugs. The legs do have holes into which casters can be placed if so desired. This item is available only for pick-up in a residential area of Pittsburgh. Antique American Empire Carved Mahogany 1800's Couch
This is a antique empire couch in mahogany and reupholstered with a cotton damask fabric. Overall in very good condition. However. Antiques are by their very nature imperfect with time and develop a patina of the wood that is desired. There are slight areas of marring to veneer. The carving on the front of arms in beautiful condition. The mahogany is gorgeous. Fabric is clean and not flawed. Very little wear to fabric. The arms are slightly loose and can be repaired. The condition can be seen in the photos. I intend to post additional photos on a day when light is proper. Email with questions. Antique American Federal Mahogany Empire Style Sofa Circa 1820 Description: A superb American late Federal period mahogany sofa in the Empire style. New York, Circa 1820. The sofa is 7'8" long by 26" deep by 32" high. Floor to seat height is 14" The sofa features wonderfully carved hairy paw feet with wings and graceful out swept arms, with a reeded front edge. It has recently been upholstered and the upholstery is in excellent condition. There are no bolster pillows unfortunately, and the padding on the seat is rather sparse. It should have had another two or three inches of padding built up on the seat when it was re-upholstered. It would be nice with one long cushion in our opinion. The sofa frame does have some damage and needs some restoration. On the left side bottom there is a break and there are two breaks ... moreon the back of the left side. Please see all photos.
