This early work from the 19th Century is joined with pegged tenon-mortise joints, using identical construction to the mid-18th Century originals. The thin carved fruitwood frame is a waving serpentine in form, growing from the arm to a 30" height that culminates in the crest with several deep carved flowers. This piece was displayed in our sitting room in Florida for years and only used as an accent piece. The only flaw that stands out is some faint damage- ONLY ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE UPHOLSTERY. It appears that rust like colored stains have emerged(on the back of the left hump area toward the ground above the gimp trim) But it doesn't really show when displayed face forward. IT MAY CLEAN UP WITH UPHOLSTERY CLEANER but it probably would be best reupholstered. There is also a slight puncture in the upper portion of the back. But once again, as evidenced by my photos, you don't notice this area if placed against a wall. This is the condition in which we purchased the piece. It may come up with upholstery

Ornate Antique 19th Century French Caned Louis VX Style Canape en Corbeille For your consideration is a stunning antique French Louis XV style canape en corbeille. The piece is masterfully carved and painted in green and an ivory color and wonderful parcel gilt. The crest rail features a laurel wreath extending outward from a central floral rocaille. The rail continues with more floral carved decoration all the way to the bottom and around the back and inside around the cusion. The back is caned with a single layer and the outside panels are double caned. All of the caning is in excellent condition. The bottom features an oak and acorn motif broken up by a carved and gilted ribbon and the top rocaille decorations of each leg. The rocailles above the legs are very well carved and they sit above the cabriolet legs with scroll feet. The canape ... morehas some minor loss of paint that is consistent with normal use over the past 125+ years. There is also shrinkage at the joints and small cracks in the unseen places like the back of a leg. The piece is structurally sound and nothing is loose. It measures 69 inches wide. 40.5 inches tall, and 30.5 inches deep. Even though it does say local pickup only, I will ship this piece. I do not know if it is American or foreign made. In removing the current fabric, which screams of a 1970s reupholstery job, I found the seat was raised on plywood blocks to add lift to achieve a modern height. Springs in seat and back do not seem to fit the age as to be original. A very finely carved antique. Circa 1890's, solid mahogany, dynamic shaped, French Empire style enclosed sofa. The front and back feet are carved claw on bun feet, the legs with carved stiff feathered wings. The skirt is carved as acanthus rosettes entwined. The arm supports are carved as stiff curving acanthus leaf, the terminal as an eagle head having acanthus neck. The back rest is carved as a swag of laurel and berry cross bound with ribbons. The fine modern fabric is a golden color with scrolling floral pattern. Sofa measures 80" wide by 46" tall by 29-1/2" deep. The seat proper measures 65" by 22" the surface of the seat 18" from the floor. Excellent condition: original dark red-brown unworn finish, no chips or cracks. The fabric is without soiling, fading, or wear.

These were purchased in Paris during the 1960's when the current oweners husband was assigned to the French embassy. The set is upholstered in gold and ivory Scalamandre silk brocade reproduction fabric. Settee is in very good condition with minor nicks and digs to the gilding and surface consistent with age and use. One of the chairs has a small separation where the arm joins the back frame. There are some small chips in the walnut and some of the edges of the carvings have been chipped. Unusual RARE 18th Cent ANTIQUE PETITE SEMI-CHAISE GOLD GILT & RAM'S HEAD French
This estate piece is documented by it's former owner(a high-ranking military official) in a binder documenting the fine antiques in his estate. About this piece. He says: Semi-Chaise, French(later crossed out) Gilt, Carved ram's head, wicker seat, wicker insets. 18th century. Purchased Geneva, Switzerland 1969" and then an added"Iran" My own opinion is this piece dates to the late 1700's or early 1800's. And is from France. I've seen lots of French pieces from this period and own many myself, and the style, construction and finish seem right for that time and place. My job here is to present what I know. and there you have it. Even though it's a bit unsure of it's origin. It's is a fine antique in a very unusual small size. I've never seen another like it. This is just slightly large than ... morea regular chair. It measures a footprint of about 30" by 18" and the tallest part is about 32" Chair shows the patina& natural wear associated with that period. But no distracting issues. Caning has been replaced at some point and is solid. Green custom cushion is a modern addition custom-made for this chaise; this cushion lays loose on the piece and is not attached in any way. Overall attractive& solid. Due to it's size. Customer pick up at our warehouse is the only option for this item. We can't pack or ship. Payment by PayPal or payment upon pick up is at your option.
