This heavily carved sofa and matching spectacular lady’s chair are highly detailed with the carved head of actress Jenny Lind. The upholstery is in fair condition as seen in pictures. EASTLAKE Furniture Circa 1880 5 piece Parlor Settee Platform Rocker Corner Chair
My mother gave me these beautiful Victorian Eastlake pieces years ago and I always planned to recover and refinish. All pieces have the original green velvet. I did pull the braided trim from four of the pieces and stapled a leopard print fabric on top. It can be pulled off and the original green velvet would be exposed. I don't know where the green braid is. However. I believe all the pieces should be re-upholstered anyway. Three pieces are part of a complete set and have matching trim. All pieces have original casters and need serious cleaning or reupholstery. Major Defects are noted here: Settee has stained velvet. Armpiece is ripped, Wood has scratches especially on one side(looks like cat scratches) Lowback chair needs the pedimont re-attached. This stunning sofa drips with the opulence of the Victorian period. Certainly the work of a mastercraftsman, the crest rail features beautiful open carvings. Outward curved arms offer heavily carved supports. The serpentine shaped seat with its wide apron is also beautifully carved and supported by demi-cabriole shaped legs. The vintage pink fabric is in very good condition with no rips or tears-maybe in need of a light cleaning. A gorgeous sofa, the wood is thick and heavy with no apologies that I can find. Circa 1850's; hand carved Rosewood; Springs and Cushions Refurbished and Recovered by State of Iowa curator team for Capital Building antiques circa 1984. Sofa is open carved across crest and around oval medallion backs. It also has floral carving. A shell crest, open arms, cabriole legs and white porcelain castors. Chair is open arm style with shell crest. Open carving, and cabriole legs with white porcelain castors. Per prior appraisal. The set could possibly be attributed to Mallard or Meeks. Age: c. 1850's.
