This auction is for a magnificent large coin silver centerpiece made by Wood and Hughes. New York. It is 13" tall to the top of the Greek Goddess handles. 11" tall to the top of the bowl, and 10" in diameter across the top. This fabulous piece of coin silver is in excellent condition. The handles are perfect. The noses are not pushed in and the balls on top of the heads have not been damaged. There are no repairs to the silver. The delicate handles have not been broken nor have the delicate strands of silver that decorate the base. The base does have a monogram. An S. This piece represents the finest design of the aesthetic movement down to the bright cut design on the top of the foot. It would look totally at home on a Herter Brothers cabinet. A Pair of China Aesthetic Movement Comports or Tazzas-Bird Motif
A beautiful pair of China Comports with striking designs in the Japanese style adopted during the Aesthetic Movement. Each piece has a Turquoise band of colour across it with a foreground motif of birds and foliage. The designs are drawn out in black with added colouring and are also highlighting in gold. As well as having bands of gold around the rims and outlining the turquoise band. I do not think these are English and assume they are Continental, but have no idea of what the birds are meant to be, which would have helped. Someone has suggested that the large bird with the horizontal turquoise band might be a Kookaburra. If so, could this mean they are Australian or made for Australia? The bases, which have been attached to the top, have the same leaf pattern on them, but have a different position for the turquoise band across them. This is an aesthetic movement plate with a brown transfer print which has been hand colored. It shows a crane. Lagoon and blossoms. It is 7& 3/4" across and marked on the base"Bamboo, H& C. I have looked in Godden's marks book and believe the mark is from Hammersley& Co. of England. the plate is in nice cndition with a tiny bit of wear to the color around the edge and a couple of shallow utensil scratches, but no chips, cracks or repairs.

Henry Tooth, became manager of the newly established Linthorpe Pottery in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. It was conceived by the brilliant designer Christopher Dresser and John Harrison, owner of the Linthorpe estate, to provide local employment. In its short life this pottery produced some of the most exotic and vibrant ceramics of the 19th century. Henry Tooth was active in developing the innovative glazes used at Linthorpe. Combining various metal oxides in two or more slips which gave exciting swirled and dripped effects. ... moreIn 1882, Tooth left Linthorpe and sources vary as to whether that pottery closed then or some seven years later. His creativity was undimmed and found an outlet in the establishment, a year later of the Bretby art pottery, with William Ault, in Woodville, Derbyshire. The enterprise had sufficient impetus to survive the departure of Ault, who set up his own pottery at Swadlincote in 1887. Initially Bretby produced similarly decorated wares to those from the Linthorpe pottery. Though of lesser quality. Favorite rich monochrome glazes from the period include green, amber and sang-de-boeuf. Departing from the more mundane, though decorative, practical wares, novelty items incorporating modelled animals and the shapes of nuts or biscuits on a plate were amongst the early products. Towards the turn of the century. A greater emphasis on modelling resulted in additions, in relief or semi-relief, of animals, birds and insects to a range of wares. Another feature of Bretby art pottery was the cunning reproduction of the appearance of materials other than ceramic. Nice 19th C Aesthetic Movement wash basin in red transfer. The condition is VERY good. There are a few light scratches in the bottom which can only be seen when light in reflected across the surface. One firing crack 2" long in the bottom revealing it's age of at least 130 years old. 14 1/2" x 5" tall. The pattern in Benedick and made by G W Turner& Sons of Tunstall. Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. 1880s TALL AESTHETIC MOVEMENT BRONZE& SILVER VASE Presented is a very fine Aesthetic Movement silver and red patinated bronze vase. The vase is in the shape of an amphora and is held upright in a heavy silver plate stand with claw feet on a square base. The front of the vase is mounted with a beautifully cast relief sculpture depicting a lion emerging from a thicket of ivy or grape leaves. The shoulder of the vase is decorated with a fine silverplate collar with vertical ribbing. The rim of the vase has an elegant shell and scroll border. The inside of the vase has a removable insert. So that the vase can hold a bouquet of fresh flowers. This was likely made Pairpoint Manufacturing Company around the 1880s. The vase does disassemble. And we will definitely ship this ... moredisassembled, depending on your location. It is very easy to reassemble. Even if you are not mechanically incline. The overall condition is excellent. The vase and the mountings are in great shape. Most of the patina is still there. Let the photos be your guide. The silver plating is in good shape. There are some small dents here and there to the red portion of the vase, on the side and back. These are minor, and will not be seen if the vase is positioned against a wall. There are no breaks, no cracks, no splits, no other dents, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs to the vase itself. The vase measures about 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches square at the base. c1890 Aesthetic Movement Silverplate Mug or Cup, No Monogram, Meridan Silver
This is a terrific Aesthetic Movement design silverplate mug. It has an unused cartouche on the front for a name of monogram to be engraved. It is decorated with Japanese inspired foliage and patterns that stretch around the sides. It has the mark of Meridan Silver Co. Quadruple Plate on the base. The inside is rough with wear to the interior but the external surface is great with a little wear to the silver on the cup opposite or behind the handle where fingers would have rubbed it but nothing that affects the pattern or design. It is 3& 5/8" tall.

Antique Aesthetic Movement Brown Transferware E.M. & Co Sugar/Creamer! SUPER!
This auction is for a very very old British transferware Aesthetic Movement cream and sugar. The mark intrigued me with the dog and the E.M. Co. banner plus the old registration mark. The sugar is about 6 1/4" in height and 5 1/2" from outside handle edge to outside handle edge. The handle on one side has. At one point, been groken and reglued and there is the common light staining and spotting associated with this very very old pottery. There is a line about 1/2" or so long in the middle of the piece right under the greek key type border. This line does go clear through to the inside and appears to be a spider on the inside of the piece. As collectors know, this piece can be soaked in 40% peroxide(beauty supply store, liquid only-not gel) and the staining will soak out. There is no other damage that we can so. The creamer ... morealso looks like the top of the handle has been broken, but I believe, after looking at both handles, that they were attached to the piece and maybe the attachment spot is just splitting a little. There are no chips or cracks on the creamer that I can see. The creamer is about 4 1/2" tall. The band of transferware depicts leaves and twigs as well as bird and gree key type borders with a wider border under the largest band of decoration that has half a flower and a leaf alternating completely around each piece. Fabulous J.F.W. England Aesthetic Movement Brown Transferware "Seasons" Plate!
Superb hard to find J.F.W. Staffordshire England aesthetic movement"Seasons" bread and butter plate! Brown transferware design with a medallion with birds and flowers and a"fan" shaped picture of a farmer plowing his field surrounded with flowers. The edge is a great geometric type design. There are no chips or cracks that we can find. But there is the common staining(only on the back-please enlarge photo) and surface scratches on the front of the plate as is common. This charmer is 8 1/4" in diameter. We will double box this hard to find piece for shipment. A 6" square Aesthetic Movement tile with a sepia transfer of central day lilies and other vines and flowers in the four corners. The tile is in very good condition with some fine crazing along one edge and a couple of very minor chips to the points at the corners. Probably made in England around 1885. These tiles were often used as decorative architectural elements in fireplace surrounds or in bathrooms and kitchens. This is a very difficult to find Aesthetic Movement period piece and simply beautiful. Dating from circa 1900. This Wedgwood platter(mark incised on the back) measures 16" wide and 14" high. The central theme, a rectangular cartouche with a woman tending to a calf, is inserted into an oblong cartouche, all of which denotes a strong Aesthetic Movement and/or Japonisme influence. On the rim, vignettes of chicken, ducks and babies playing with animals. The platter seems to have had some professional restoration.

English aesthetic movement papier mache snuff box, combining elements of the vogue for eastern design and the emerging art nouveau style in its decoration. This rectangular box measures 3 1/2" long. 2 1/4" deep, and 1" high, and has the standard glossy black lacquer base both inside and out. It is distinguished by an ornate and eclectic decorative scheme covering its lid, typical of the exoticism of the aesthetic movement in design which thrived in the last two decades of the 19th c. On a gold field, a broad, red-edged green band runs from the top to the bottom of the lid's surface, echoing the form of a moorish arch, like the top of an Islamic mihrab. This arch form is enhanced further with a series of inlaid white metal stars running its entire length. Within the confines ... moreof this arch form sits a medallion in the same dark green at bottom center, which contains a downward pointing crescent; beneath the crescent is a foliate cup form from which three red tulips and their leaves sprout, projecting from the circle to fill the top of the arch. Scrolling foliate motifs in white and gold, ornate and symmetrical, fill the remaining area of the lid's surface, their sinuous lines a hint of the art nouveau style which was just emerging. It has an aesthetic transfer pattern featuring various flowers and leaves around the entire outer edge of the plate with raised embossed scrollwork at each end. Measurements: 16-1/2" x 11" x 1-3/4" tall; this is a rather deep platter. Marks: Marked on the back with"Porcelaine Royale Pitcairns Limited Tunstall England" along with the shield and star logo; this mark dates to 1895-1901. Excellent condition with no chips or cracks. An ebonized wood hanging cabinet. About 37 inches by 17.5 inches by 10 inches. Attributable to Kimbel and Cabus of New York in about the 1870's. This cabinet has a gallery top with an asymetric back. A compartment with original hardware and beveled glass, a left side tall gallery and an under shelf. It is in good condition with some small losses to the surface such as may be seen in photo#7. The surface of the piece is in original condition and has not been refinished. There are hanging brackets on the back. One appears to have been repositioned at some time in the past. There are no breaks or alterations apart from this repositioned hanging bracket. The cabinet features incised ornamentation in the Aesthetic style. It is unsigned. This cabinet was owned by Dr. Sidney Krawitz of Mitford. Pennslyvania, author of the definitive Tax Atlas, ... moreand the First Public Defender in Pikes County, Pennsylvania, as well as being solicitor to Milford Borough and later the President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Description This set of 4 antique circa 1870-90 Minton(attributed) Aesthetic Movement tile panels. Are quite thin porcelain panel plaques of rectangular form. They are very finely hand painted in coloured enamels with a continuous scene of white lilies and a vine winding around a branch against a greeny blue enamel ground in a very Anglo-Japanese(Japonism) style. This lovely set of tile panel plaques are unmarked and one panel has been broken and re-glued neatly but shows on the front where the enamel ground has fritted at the break line. On the back it looks like a hairline crack. There are a few minor tiny enamel frits to the edges, the glazed backs have some crackle in the glaze and one panel has a small square of cellotape where there are two little plucks at the surface on the back, otherwise they are in good condition. A beautiful example of Aesthetic Movement Pottery in the late 1880s Victorian Jackfield-style Pitcher Aesthetic Movement'Palm' Jackfield-style pottery from England. Late 1800's. Polychrome& gilt detailed designs of birds. Bamboo shoots, cattails& geometric panels& bands. The base is marked with the pattern name. Palms" Made in England, and Rd. No. 140614(corresponding to 1889) Pitcher has a few light scratches to the glaze. Some enamel loss on the palm leaves, wear on some of the beads. Small chip on handle(see picture) Lid appears to be made of pewter. Measurements: approx. 7-1/2" tall. And just over 4-1/4" in diameter at the base. Bizarre Gothic Antique Silverplate Water Pitcher Aesthetic Movement Eastlake
This antique Victorian silverplate lidded water pitcher has wonderful Aesthetic Movement repousse and Eastlake incised details with some very unusual and interesting additions: the lower portion of the spout is shaped like a bird's head. And there are mysterious figures and odd creatures adorning the upper rim. Why on earth are those little humanoids shooting at creatures that look like walruses and a(in relation to the shooting figures) huge Puss in Boots? Very strange. The pitcher has no significant scratching and very little wear to the plate. But the upper rim is a bit misshapen, as shown in closeup. The lid still closes snugly because the bent areas are only on the outermost rim. The pitcher measures approximately 13 inches tall and weighs approximately 5&1/2 pounds. Presented for your consideration this lovely very interesting unusual yellow ware water pitcher. I have had this pitcher in my collection for many years and try as I might. I could not find another any where. It has the classic aesthetic movement form with its bulbous bottom and flat top. It is embossed with an aesthetic movement decor with its all over design of geometric patterns Asian influences i.e. bamboo, fans and flowers. All on a dark mustard yellow background with gilded highlights. Pitcher measures 7-1/8 inches tall and approximately 6-1/2 inches in diameter at it's widest. The pitcher is unmarked. It is in excellent antique condition, not cracks, chips or repairs, there is a tiny hairline on the inside top rim, that may just be stress line. Approximately 16 in. tall. 9-3/8 in. wide(with moving handles in the straight up position) and 8-1/2 in. from back to spout(measured at spout level) Great condition. There are no dents, breaks, chips, or cracks, except for the lid which has a small bend(approx 1in. long) at its rim. We found this in an estate we were cleaning out. Circa 1878. Has ox bone handle on spigot. Signed on bottom Reed + Barton Aug 12, 1878. Lid has a lion on it with a stick in its mouth. Lid has a small bend at its rim, could easily be straightened out.
