Ornate Antique 19th Century French Caned Louis VX Style Canape en Corbeille For your consideration is a stunning antique French Louis XV style canape en corbeille. The piece is masterfully carved and painted in green and an ivory color and wonderful parcel gilt. The crest rail features a laurel wreath extending outward from a central floral rocaille. The rail continues with more floral carved decoration all the way to the bottom and around the back and inside around the cusion. The back is caned with a single layer and the outside panels are double caned. All of the caning is in excellent condition. The bottom features an oak and acorn motif broken up by a carved and gilted ribbon and the top rocaille decorations of each leg. The rocailles above the legs are very well carved and they sit above the cabriolet legs with scroll feet. The canape ... morehas some minor loss of paint that is consistent with normal use over the past 125+ years. There is also shrinkage at the joints and small cracks in the unseen places like the back of a leg. The piece is structurally sound and nothing is loose. This deeply worn and patinated with traces of gilt over a green and cream ground, the chaise lounge exudes a provincial charm that can only be found from years of enjoyment and exposure. Crafted very clearly in the French Louis XV taste probably during the mid to late 19th Century, it remains in quite nice condition despite it's years. We would certainly change the upholstery, as the wing is a bit too discolored to be forgiven, but the down stuffed cushion remains very full and comfortable. Finely carved throughout. The deeply channeled and molded frame is interwoven with naturalistic embellishments throughout; there is a strong acanthus presence throughout- in the carved hand holds, the turns of the molding and in the outflow of the crest and apron carvings. These two in particular, the crest and the apron, both are deeply and robustly carved in a most admirable way. A distinctly rocaille design, the shell grows from the molding in a perfect transition, the finely incised lines detailing the inside of the shell and the outflowing foliage. Beautiful 19th Century french set that I had reupholstered by a professional italian Upholsterer approx 9 years ago with Scalamandre heavy duty upholstery that cost approx $400 a yard 9 years ago. This auction includes more than 7 1/2 extra yards of this fabric for you to do anything you like. Drapes, accents, pillows, whatever. Also, this upholterer put reinforcers on the sofa piece and I have taken a picture of one of the reinforcers underneath the leg in the 8th picture. Carved beautifully, rare. This is a very very old set so there are some nicks in the wood that can be touched up but it was made very sturdy. The upholstery is PERFECTION. This set was just for show and never really sat on or used and then you get all this extra Scalamandre fabric. C. 1880 Stamped"Léon ROGER" en verso Item# 409CTI20 This is a very attractive French Provincial daybed from the last quarter of the 19th century. Carved in the Louis XV taste. Though clearly with a Provincial appeal, the surfaces are highly active and wonderfully carved with floral motives highlighting all major spaces. The frame is deeply molded, this particularly bold in the swirling acanthus hand holds flanking the daybed. Constructed with permanence throughout, all joinery is tenon-mortise, most of these joints being pegged tenons. The daybed is crafted to be easily broken down into small pieces, the two sides, front and back rails all coming easily apart with four bolts and two screws. The form rests over short cabriole legs with flowers carved along the knees and ... moreterminating in scrolled French toes. The back leg is stamped with a single brand of Léon ROGER, Paris. An absolutely gorgeous piece with a warm and well developed surface patina. This is a gorgeous piece for any home decorated in the French Country taste. Sturdy and strong, this was crafted to last through the generations and will be cherished well beyond our lifetimes if cared for properly. VERY FINE LOUIS XVI PAINTED ANTIQUE SETTEE W/ STEPPED OUT APRON Early 19th Century Item# 1408VFP24Z This exceptional settee is unusual for it's very striking form- the seat projects in soft ovolu corners. Stepping out the frame profile significantly over a pair of foremost legs. An unusual treatment, it is a most effective contrast against the inverted corners of the crest rail, these terminating in raised pyramidical acanthus finials. The frame is delightfully carved with twisted rope of a somewhat unusual design raised of the solid in the hollow of the molded frame. The armrests curve in keeping with the profile of the frame, the lower support of the arm rest a vivid display of gilded acanthus carvings, each leaf deeply and perfectly formed. The apron is embellished with a series of arched channels between the robust display of floral ... morecarvings set above each leg, these expertly turned and tapered with gilded stop-fluting over mostly original castors. The rear legs are sharply canted, an effort that relaxes the profile of the settee and is accentuated by the lack of castors on the back legs- these were either lost at some point or purposefully removed to improve the profile of the sofa to the owner's preference. The result is quite attractive, though this could easily be restored back to it's original profile by adding castors. The construction is impeccable, each juncture joined with tenon-mortise joints, most of these with tiny wooden pins securing the joint permanently. The surface is warm and deeply attractive with it's grime and wear, this set against a stark white upholstery in overall excellent condition with only minor blemishes and discolorations. A rare and wonderful find. This is a settee that may be found only infrequently and is most striking in every way. It will certainly be cherished in your home for a lifetime. This is a beautiful. Carved(mostly machine turnings. English, 19th C. armchair, upholstered in beautiful French tapestry. The tapestry(I believe. depicts Henry XIII and Catherine of Aragon on a famous Fox Hunt at Hampton Court. The tapestry is very fine and in excellent condition. We are offering this extremely nice antique Sofa/ Settee. We purchased this from a high end L.A. Estate Auction and have used it in our vintage prop rental business. As much as we love the piece it is too nice to be used as a rental- given it's age. Ornate carvings and delicate fabric, we are too worried about it when it leaves our hands. What a great piece. I have tried to highlight in the photos the incredible carvings- when coupled with the silk brocade fabric it really makes a statement. Unfortunately it does have a few tears on the seat bottom as photo'd. The tears are clearly noticeable up close but when looking at the piece from a distance the tears blend in with the rest of the fabric which remains in good condition.
