Antique George III Chippendale Double Back Mahogany Settee England. Composed of 18th Century Elements during the 19th Century Item# 120012FPO13 This is ... morean interesting decorative work. A selection for any interior designer or home owner looking to bring the nostalgia and charm only found in the patina and form from the 18th Century. It is a form known as a double-back settee. Crafted in the George III Chippendale style from elements of 18th Century pieces to bring that natural depth and warmth. The crest flows with a soft serpentine over pierced bell-bottom splats. Terminating at each corner in sharp pointed ears over inward curved stiles that flow directly into the slightly canted back feet. The slip seat is trapezoidal in shape, a geometrical stitched upholstery of period design covering the frame, flanked on either side by curving arms. The entire design rests over three square front legs locked together with a box-form stretcher. This is purely a decorative work as a result of the adjustments. But truly is a wonderful decorative work. As a stunning bench for a large hallway, an antique settee between two windows of the bedroom or in the sunroom with a pair of Georgian chairs. There are few limits on the use of a piece like this in a fine home. A piece like this in unadjusted condition would be three to four times the price, as they are very difficult to acquire and quite popular in Colonial style homes, making this a fine and affordable acquisition. In strong and sturdy condition, being fully functional as a regular part of your decor, this is a piece you will enjoy actively for a lifetime. Measurements: 61" wide x 23" deep x 38 1/2" high to crest; 18" high to seat; 17 1/2" seat depth Condition Report: Visually Outstanding Condition Composed of 18th Century Elements- note the crest rail with it's multiple pegs. The added height above each splat and stile beneath the crest. Interior blocking and inside of seat has been rebuilt for strength and functionality- we have not examined ben

Old Antique 18th Century Handmade Saxon Violin, Excellent Condition
An Exceptional Rustic 18th Century Saxon Violin Up for auction is a handmade. 18th Century Saxon violin, dating to around 1790. Guaranteed authentic. The top is made of lovely medium-grained spruce. With nicely worked‘f’ holes, inlaid purfling. The one-piece back is maple, a lovely chunk of wood which some unknown luthier decided would make a nice violin. The maple grafted scroll was purposely roughly worked to match the back. This is a solid. Quality instrument, fully lined and blocked, with an excellent selection of woods which results in a truly beautiful, rustic violin. After centuries of play. The resonance and harmonics leap out. It is a very quick, responsive, warm violin with a growling G string, smooth and resonant D and A strings, and a clear, ringing E string. It plays evenly across the strings all the way up the fingerboard, and ... moreis quite suitable for orchestral settings. It is a pure delight to play and treasure; a truly valuable violin. Another amazing aspect of this violin is its condition. Except for over two centuries’ worth of nicks and dings. The top and bottom are undamaged. As in no cracks. Zero. There is one well-repaired ½-inch rib crack adjacent to the end pin(see photo) and a chip repair and shim at the neck button(see photo) For what it’s worth. The violin carries a nice old label– fake, I imagine– of“Lorenzo Ventapane Fabbricante di Strumenti da Corde Abita Calata Borgo di Loreto No 23. It even has some extremely faint letters of a fake signature. The violin is full-sized. With slightly smaller dimensions in the manner of many of the old Italian makers: Total length 587mm(23-3/16) body length 355mm(13-15/16) upper bout 164mm(6-7/16) lower bout 200mm(7-7/8) Vibrating string length is set at 328mm(12-15/16) It has all ebony accessories: fingerboard. New nut, new Parisian eye pegs, tailpiece and end pin, and a Guarnieri chin rest. The new pegs turn and hold well. The strings are new Pirastro Tonicas. Payment by PayPal. The violin will be carefully packed and shipped. Rea

19th Century Brass French Candlesticks - 18th Century Style
I love these heavy brass candlesticks that I bought at the Clignancourt Flea Market in Paris in 2003. They are in a traditional 18th century octagonal style. But they are from the 19th century, more than likely the latter half. The stems can be unscrewed from their bases. Which makes it very easy to clean and polish them. 8 3/4" tall approx. 4 3/4" wide. This is a beautiful pair of a traditional French design for that touch of 18th century grace at a 19th century price. Good luck!
18TH CENTURY TRIBAL APPLIQUE HAND EMBROIDERED LARGE TUNIC/ HANDMADE PATCHWORK
INDUS VALLEY CRAFTS BID AND WIN THIS MYSTERIOUS PIECE Item description: This piece reflects creators mood which seems to be fun and vibrant. The size is L= 29" by W= 18" When I look at the design I feel as if it has been inspired by the pop art era. I'm not sure if it has any relation to it. The embroidery is so neat that it seems like a print from a distance. The inspiration of design comes from basic lines and shapes. The four circles at the top section seems to be the accent of the piece. The over all design is symmetrical yet balance placement of asymmetrical motifs is very obvious. The back of the piece is equally beautiful due to the impression of the embroidery. Collection: I bought these pieces from a man who pays visit to remote areas of Sindh. He met displaced women artisans who sold him their dowry pieces in order ... moreto generate funds for themselves. They told him that these embroidery Gaj were given by their grandmothers as an asset. These are complete handmade and are usually in demand throughout the year. There is no repetition in design as it is against their working ethics. The Gaj is the local name for neckline. It seems to very old and is definitely a collectible item and could be used as a part of costume. Besides collecting from people I personally visit to artisan communities to purchase also unique pieces. It enables me to pay money directly to women artisans which is a positive point in my working ethics. Shipment details: After receiving the payment from the buyer. The item will be shipped in 1 to 2 days and will reach the buyer within 10 to 14 days depending on the location of the buyer. I will provide the TRACKING NUMBER to the buyer so that the parcel could be tracked before reaching the destination. Mode of Payment: I'm only accepting payments through Paypal. 18th 19th Century English Naval Decagonal Decahedral Telescope Spyglass
This is a late 18th/early 19th century English mahogany bodied single draw decagonal(ten sided) marine telescope. It has a 3/4-inch field lens. Dust slides, and tapering body. It measures 17 1/4 inches un-extended and 20 1/2 inches extended to the line on the draw. The optics are quite good. Although usually dated to the mid-late 18th century. I know some of these were still being made into the 19th century. Especially as this one is un-signed I won't yield to the temptation to state that this one is definitely 18th century. And unlike 99% of the telescopes on eBay, this is a true maritime or naval telescope from the age of sail. I am selling a number of nautical and other instruments now and in the near future and am happy to combine shipping. All items are sent via insured Priority Mail with signature confirmation when required.

This richly illustrated book emphasizes the art inherent in embroidery and contextualizes the examples within aesthetic movements. The objects and designs are myriad: pictorial embroidery, wool and cotton sailor’s pants embroidered with a running whorl stitch resembling tattoo art. ENGLISH MERCHANT TAILORS in LONDON 14th-18th CENTURY -CHARTERS OF THE COMPANY
The Charters of The Merchant Taylors' Company” By Sir Frederick Morris Fry. R.T.D. Sayle. Printed in London for private circulation in 1937. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: In 1935 they opened the box containing the charters of the Merchant Taylors Company and discovered that the historic documents needed dusting and cleaning. The event also begged for a history of the Company as seen through its early charters. To be written, and so this one was, by the former Master and the former Warden of the Company. The charters which are discussed here are those issued by Edward III in 1327 and 1341, Richard II in 1390, Henry IV in 1408, Henry VI in 1439, Edward IV in 1465, Henry VII in 1503, Henry VIII in 1512, Philip& Mary in 1558, Elizabeth I in 1560, James I in 1604, Charles II in 1685, James II in 1688, William& ... moreMary in 1690, and George I in 1719. The text also includes an overview of the history of the Company during this period, so there is a great deal of information here regarding merchant tailors in England in the 14th-18th centuries. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 9"x11.75" Ix + 62 pages, 8 black& white folding plates. CONDITION NOTES: The covers have some soil and light wear(please see the photos. Antique Portable Writing Desk, 18th / 19th Century, Colonial, Civil War, Rustic
Antique Portable Writing Desk. 18th/ 19th Century, Colonial, Civil War, Rustic Here is a beautiful piece of history. From what I have found. This is most likely late 18th, early 19th century, but possibly Civil War era. These first started to appear in the last decades of the 18th Century. This particular Desk isn't as ornate as many of the writing desks that I have seen here on ebay. Or online. This one seems to have been made purely for it's practical purpose. It shows it's age. But is still in good solid shape. It does have a few stains though. But. I guess it could possibly be refinished. Here is a bit of the history and other examples of early Portable Writing Desks: Please examine pics. Zoom in, and ask any questions you may have before making an offer, bidding or buying. I'll do my best to answer. Although this is in ... moregood antique condition. It's still a few hundred years old and is being sold AS-IS. No returns will be accepted. By bidding on. Or buying this item you are agreeing to these terms. Will try to ship same day or within 24 hours of confirmed payment. Check out our feedback and shop with confidence!

BRONZE rail cannon, late 17th to early 18th century
I have revised the item. I am sure most of you knew I meant late 1600s early 1700s or late 17th century early 18th century BRONZE rail cannon. For those of you not familiar with cannons this is a low opening bid! Cannon is very ornate with a diamond design on on the barrel. Condition is very good with no pieces missing or cracks etc. Please have a look at the photos to further assess condition. It has a middle and front sight and a beautiful dark patina from age and likely being buried. If a cannon is bronze(gold-like) in colour it has been cleaned or is a fake. If the cannon has been cleaned the value is decreased significantly! It would be my guess that the cannon was buried by natives to hide it from the Japanese during World War 2. The bore is 2.5 cm or 1inch. Length is 62.50 cm or 25 inches, and weighs about 7.5kg or 15 pounds. It's ... morea perfect size for an office or decoration on a large desk. The rare decorated open swivel or trunnion assists with dating this cannon to well before the 1750's. So. To clarify after 1650 and before 1750. A trunnion(from Old French"trognon" Trunk) is a cylindrical protrusion used as a mounting and/or pivoting point. In a cannon, the trunnions are two projections cast just forward of the center of mass of the cannon. they allowed the muzzle to be raised and lowered easily. The condition of the touch hole would indicate that it was not fired much or at all. This cannon is an antique and over 300 years old. It CANNOT be fired. Due to length a gun license is NOT required. So what were these cannons used for? These cast bronze swivel cannons were mounted on small craft by merchantmen and were effective in providing an easily manoeuverable weapon. They were a popular choice for the defence of ships against pirates in South East Asia. The Phillipines and Malaysia. They also served as a form of currency and were passed down from family to family as heirlooms. This bronze cannon is guaranteed to be from the 16th/17th century. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Baroque furniture was in vogue during the late 17th Century. Italian baroque architects Gianlorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini had showcased their innovative designs in Rome. By this time, the baroque design was only on the surface of the furniture, but ... morelater towards the last quarter of the century, a lot of changes were introduced into the design. At this time, caryatids and the scroll patterns were introduced. Using the caryatid and scroll patterns in baroque designs means the use of female figures along with scroll-shaped and spiral-turned legs to support the structure of the furniture. By the end of the 17th Century, baroque architecture had been transformed to structures with curved fronts and was first used on wardrobes and chests of drawers. Chairs were designed with high back and rich carvings. Even the cane chairs had high backs with beautifully turned parts in place of the carved areas. These chairs were elegant and exquisite. 17th /18th Century Arabic Window – Traditional Arabic Architecture
17 th/18 th Century Arabic Window– Traditional Arabic Architecture This was found in my grandfather’s attic and while we have been able to do a little research. This would present a project for those who are historically and architecturally inclined. We had a historian look at this window and he stated that it was probably from the late 17 th century to the 18 th century. While my grandfather was working in the middle east exploring for oil they periodically came across structures that had long since been abandoned. This is a window that was found buried in sand. While the door itself has not been restored. It does look he polished the wood surrounding the window. As the historian highlighted. The window clearly highlights the“all seeing eye” as is normally found in Arabic culture. Because of the age. It is obviously not symmetrically square. ... moreThe frame measures 19 X 16. The window itself measures 11 5/8 across the bottom and 13 ¾ across the top. The paintings on the window are all natural dyes. At one point. I think there was blues, yellows, reds, and black. The window should be restored but that is outside of my abilities. Hence it is time to let this one go. Throughout their long history the craft traditions of the Islamic world evolved a multitude of styles applied to a great variety of media but always with unifying factors that make them instantly recognizable. Harmony is central. There are two key aspects to the visual structure of Islamic design-calligraphy using Arabic script(one of the world's great calligraphic traditions) and abstract ornamentation using a varied but remarkably integrated visual language. Focusing on Islamic geometric patterns. Simple and complex, man-made and in nature.

PERIOD INVENTORIES, CONTENTS, DECORATIONS of GREAT 18th CENTURY ENGLISH HOUSES
Noble Households. Eighteenth-Century Inventories of Great English Houses. A Tribute to John Cornforth” Edited by Tessa Murdoch. Published in Cambridge by John Adamson in 2006. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Inventories of nine great country houses and four London town houses were chosen for this book by the late John Cornforth. The historian. They document the taste and lifestyle of leading grandees and the households that supported them, and record in astonishing detail and with great immediacy the goods and chattels accumulated, inherited, or acquired for everyday use or enjoyment. Compiled swiftly on the spot, room by room, with meticulous care, they were written by professional appraisers, in consultation with family members or their stewards. The language is startlingly modern. One house was equipped with a‘washing ... moremachine’ another refers to the latrine as‘the boghouse’ Kitchen utensils with French names reflect the presence of a French chef and the adoption of French cooking methods. For today’s fascination with the history of food and life below stairs, the contents of the kitchen and scullery assume as much interest as the grand rooms of entertainment. The equipment required to service the household, for cleaning, medical treatment, brewing, baking and distilling reflects the community of stewards, housekeepers and cooks that worked there. Above stairs these inventories record the collecting habits of leading eighteenth-century patrons and provide an opportunity to compare the arrangements of the interiors of the great town and country houses of the same noble families in different generations. French 18th Century Nicolas Poussin Painting Reproduction Oil on Linen
On July 9. 2011 this painting was brought to the Minneapolis Convention Center Antique Roadshow Event. Two appraisers reviewed this painting at that time. During 2012 I also had a local appraisal company(Appraisal Specialists Midwest) review the painting. In addition and during 2012 I had Bonham's Auctions review this painting along with Alan Fausel, painting specialist on Antiques Roadshow who was making the rounds with them during a Twin Cities home tour appraisal fair. I did not share with any of the people involved what the others may have concluded just to see what came up. In all three circumstances all the appraisers had the same independent conclusion. All agreed that this is a late 18th century(circa 1790-1810) reproduction of a Nicolas Poussin(1594-1695) masterpiece. They also agreed that this form of high quality reproduction ... morework was common to the time period and produced for wealthy tourists traveling Europe. Moses is distinctly represented in the work and there are similarities to this painting and other original Poussin's referencing Moses, however, I have yet to discover which original work this is a reproduction of. The painting is oil on linen and in exceptional condition. There is only a slight and very minimal amount of crazing. The piece looks to have been cleaned and re-varnished sometime within the last thirty years. The fame is attractive but it is uncertain if it is the original frame to the piece. On the reverse it seems clear that the painting was stabilized and strengthened within the frame probably at the time it was last cleaned. The frame is painted gesso on wood. There are a few very minor areas of gesso loss from moving over the years. A new cleaning would probably brighten the piece although it does not appear to be terribly dirty and the current varnish has not yellowed much and appears to be contemporary. This painting would fit nicely in a neo classical environment and could also make a grand statement in a contemporary setting. Additional photographs are available for

3 x 18TH. CENTURY DUTCH DELFT MANGANESE TILES FRAMED EACH TILE 13 X13 x 7mm
Antiques. Collectables, Paintings, Fine Ceramics and Glass 3 FRAMED 18 TH. CENTURY DUTCH DELFT MANGANESE TILES These three Dutch. Delft, manganese tiles are dated to around 1750. They make a superb set mounted in their frame. The ground is cream and design is in purplish brown colour. The scenes on the tiles are of the canal with windmill. Boats and farm or church with small designs in the corners. They are uniquely hand painted in this wonderfully naive style. The condition of all 3 tiles is particularly good for this age. There are a few frits and nibbles to the edge. Some crazing and the tile on the right is slightly brown on the top, this may be the result of old tobacco smoke. Each tile measures 13cm x 13 cm x 7mm(approximately) or 5¼ inches x 5¼ inches. The wooden frame measures just more than 17½ inches x 7½ inches. ... moreI have added more pictures to show the condition and thickness of the tiles out of the frame. I'm afraid the colour looks varied as I was having problems with my camera. Manganese is a mineral used since Egyptian times to stain glazes and bodies. The colour varies depending on the glaze. Lead glazes give a purplish brown colour. As with these tiles. Manganese mixed with iron in an alkaline glaze creates a rich black tone. Delftware tiles were very popular. Popular decorative motifs included landscapes and flowers. With smaller designs in each corner. In Britain early delftware copied the Dutch manganese palette. By the mid-18 th. century British delft was increasingly overlooked in favour of creamware and eventually porcelain. Bidders abroad please enquire for postage befor bidding. ANTIQUE ENGLISH SILVER 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th Century -Clark Institute
An Exhibition of Silver of the 16th. 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries” Published in Williamstown by the Robert Sterling Clark Art Institute in 1951. DISCUSSION: The very first Clark Art Institute catalog. The exhibition was held at Lawrence Hall of Williams College. As the Introduction notes that the Institute has only recently bought land for the permanent museum building. In 1910. After a distinguished career in the United States Army, Sterling Clark settled in Paris and began collecting works of art, an interest he inherited from his parents. When he married Francine Clary in 1919, she joined him in what quickly became a shared passion. Together they created a remarkable collection of paintings, silver, sculpture, porcelain, drawings, and prints with complete reliance on their own judgments and tastes. In 1950 the Clarks founded the Sterling ... moreand Francine Clark Art Institute as a permanent home for their collection, and the museum first opened to the public in 1955. Since its conception, the Institute has had a dual mission as both a museum and a center for research and higher education. It is in this spirit that the Clark has expanded over the last five decades to become the influential institution it is today” from the Museum website) DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 6.5”x10” 9 pages of text plus 10 black& white plates. Mid 18th Century Buddhist Kamavacca
This is an ancient piece of religious text. The most sacred of Burmese Buddhist Religious texts. Believed to be Pali langauge. There are 2 black hand carved wooden covers with approx. 30 unlacquered pages. Pages appear to be made of some type of extremely thin sliced wood or some other form of paper manufacture of which I'm unaware. They more resemble thin wood than anything else to me. The individual Pages and covers are held together by a small gold colored rope. This kamavacca has an unusually high number of pages. Is unlacquered, and apparently has 2 different sets of handwriting in it, indicating it was passed from one monk to another. all of which strikes us as a bit unusual in our research. It would appear that 2 different buddist monks have written in this beautiful compilation of rules. Rituals and ceremonies. The pages are guilded ... moreand the covers painted Black helping to date this prayer book to the mid 18th century. This manuscript is as old as our country. A fabulous religious text for the right collector. Overall. One would have to say the condition of the book is A-1. We hope this treasure finds a worthy home. Please keep in mind that all items in Ebay store are also for sale in our physical store. Therefore. We hold the right to withdraw merchandise at any time, so if you're interested, please buy now. Fine Composite 18th Century Violin, possibly Italian
An 18th century composite violin labeled: Philippus Horil fecit Romae. Anno Domini 1761. I have not been able to find any reference to a maker by this name and therefore believe the label to be spurious. Although it appears to be printed on the correct paper and with the correct typeset for the period. The scroll and neck, of very highly flamed wood and average workmanship, are not original. Given the scroll's sharp, unworn appearance, it is probably of early 20th century German origin. The corpus is of small proportions. Highly arched. Ribs and back of matching, lightly-flamed wood. The table, of medium grain, has had numerous repairs-one crack visible in the picture just to the treble side of the tailpiece area, has old glue visible at its margins. There is a rather large soundpost patch to the top and a visible graft line runs around ... morethe perimeter of the top-either half-edge work or an attempt to match the top of one violin to the back and ribs of another. There has been considerable over-varnishing to the instrument and it has a very highly polished appearance. The violin is built on an inside mould. The setup has been removed from this violin to show its structural condition as thoroughly as possible. While some revision to the many old repairs may be necessary. It is a fully playable instrument and will be sent with all its fittings and strings. Free shipping within continental U.S. international shipping per calculator.

1 Leaf of 18th century Maronite Syriac Garshuni Printed Bible
First of all. I can confidently state that one side of this leaf has the important Christian phrase"The Father and The Son and the Holy Spirit, even though I do not read Arabic, the word in Arabic for Son is IBN, which is related to the Hebrew and Syriac word for Son, which is"Ben, just as in the proper name Benjamin(see the 4th scanned image, 3rd and 4th lines from the bottom) An early 18th century rare printed Syriac Bible leaf(with writing on both sides) on paper. This was published by the Maronite Christian Church. Using the ancient Syriac script or letters but the words are actually in the Arabic language; this writing in Syriac and reading in Arabic is called Garshuni or Karshuni. Syriac is a Semitic language, related to Aramaic, Hebrew, Arabic, and Ge'ez. Size: 3 in. x 3 3/4 in. There is discoloration on the leaf, due ... moreto its use and age over the centuries. This particular leaf has the phrase"The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. This is an antique printed page. Not a modern reproduction. Its authenticity is 100% guaranteed. It has been authenticated by a scholar with a Ph.D. degree in Biblical Studies. The winner of this eBay auction will get the original leaf. As well as a xerox copy with the translations marked(see the last scanned image) IMPORTANT WARNING NOTE: Please notice that I have used the word"Bible" in the title. It really should be"Biblical. Earlier I had changed the word"Bible" to"Biblical, but there were no search hits, because most people are searching for the word"Bible. The reason that I say this is because one cannot be certain that the particular text on the manuscript is a Bible or New Testament text. It could just as well be a Psalter, a private prayerbook, a theological exposition, a Biblical commentary and explanation, a church liturgy or service, various quotations of Patristic writers, a philosophical discussion, a hymnody, or some other Christian historical writing. However, this sheet does represent some aspect of the Et
Antique 18th Century Birmingham Brass Candlesticks
Birmingham Brass Candlesticks" By Jean M. Burks. Published by the University Press of Virginia: 1986. DISCUSSION: An outstanding addition to the published material on English brass. This book goes beyond stylistic chronologies to investigate the brass founders who worked in Birmingham and the patented devices they incorporated into their products. It includes short biographies of Birmingham brass founders and American instrument makers" Ames& Ward) Jean M. Burk's manuscript does an excellent job in discussing the fabrication of brass candlesticks and. More importantly, in discussing the fabrication of the various ejection devices developed with the two-part stem. The latter is material previously unpublished and is important in the connoisseurship of candlesticks of the period. The identification and working dates of sixty ... moreeighteenth-century Birmingham candlestick makers is especially helpful and, even more so, is the detailed information about the seven firms which marked their candlesticks, and the very thorough analysis of their marked examples" John Davis, dj blurb) DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8.5"x11" 128 pages, 121 black& white illustrations, dust jacket.
