SquareTrade © AP6.0 This sofa is a n original ca. 1840 American Empire style built from solid Santo Domingo mah ogany moldings with cherry and white pine secondary woods and exquisitely veneered surfaces of bookmatched Santo Domingo crotc h veneer with whole crot ch veneer on lyre faces of arms. The base is constructed of half round and cove pattern all the way around front and sides. Very well formed and veneered. The double cyma-curved crestrail is classic American Empire. Significant positives about this piec e from the perspec tive of an antique f urniture restorer with over 30 years experience show that this piece stands out in at least 3 ways. The original veneering shows no sign of glue failure at all. It is amazin gly intact with very little damage. The finish appears to be original. In excellent condition, and finally, it appears ... moreto have been upholstered only twice- the second time ti me with s taples. Usually on a piece like this. The wood is literally riddled by several reupholsterings with tacks and nails and often requires serious repairs to the wood before it can be upholstered again. It was entirely hand made with the highest levels of craf tsmanship- no cut corners. Hand sawn. Hand planed. In other words, pieces like this are usually worn out and are done over so many times that they're no longer usable. Not this piece. It's one of the best p reser ved p ieces I've ever had in my shop- Golden Eagle Cabinet Shop. Negatives- at 170 years of age. One will want to av oid hard use. The re upholstery could use an application of gimp along the crest rail borders- a normal finishing touch not done yet. The original coil springs have diff erent spring so unds for di fferent places one might sit. And as befit s a dowager of mature age. There is a bit of lumpiness. V isually stunning with depth and vibrant color. This piece will proudl y be the centerpiece in your h ome. It has new fabric which cost about 500 to put on. the back is tufted. it has great form and beauty. the front of the sofa is 42 inches at the widest part of the outside of the feet. it is 47 inches wide at the top at the widest portion of the part of the back that flares out. it is 32 inches tall at the tallest point and 26.5 inches tall in the middle. the seat is app. 17 inches deep. it sits 15 inches from the floor. it is very cozy and comfortable. it is in great antique condition. there are a few minor veneer chips, but no loose veneers. the finish is wonderful. i just cleaned it with liquid gold so it may look a bit shinny. i started to take pictures in my house, but it was dark where i had it, so i moved ... moreit outside for better lighting. it is solid and sturdy. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. ps. i am starting it for a lot less than i have in it. i did not realize how much it was going to cost to recover it.

It is a commanding 85 1/2" long(Boston, North Shore and NYC s sofa of the Federal period were all maximum 78" long. The seat is 19" deep and it is 23 1/3" wide and it is 37" tall to its back crest. It has had a museum quality restoration to its back rail-so nice not to see some home hack job we sadly see a few times every week. It appears to be in at least a 100 year old period tapestry fabric with no rips or tears. We haven't had its bottom open up its bottom but the jute webbing isn't broken and all its springs are still tied. Hello! I have a really pretty Antique Empire sofa for sale! From my research. I think this sofa dates between 1840-1860. It measures 80 in. Long, 22 in. Wide, and 36 in. Tall. As per previous owner, the sofa originally came from savannah georgia. The sofa still retains its original horse hair stuffing which is covered in a navy blue material. As you can tell the sofa is missing some veneer and ornamental applique pieces. I originally bought this sofa for a winter project, but found another sofa that I liked better. Carved Mahogany Federal Sofa New Upholstery
Very nice and clean federal cornucopia carved setae with carved claw feet. Carved acanthus leaves scrolling down the curved arms ending in a floral rosette. Gadrooned scalloped front apron above very heavily carved cornucopia baskets of nuts and berries ending in large claw feet. This setae is smaller then the obnoxiously built larger sofa models which I also live equally but they don't fit just anywhere. We have cleaned this one since I pictured it and looks much better now. Here we have for offer a good Victorian mahogany Chesterfield style mahogany three seater settee dating to the second half of the 19th century. This good sized sofa has a well padded back with scrolled arms over a sprung seat being raised on mahogany turned legs with later castors. Condition wise the back and arms are fine being well stuffed and padded. The seat is comfortable but little soft in places although the springs have not gone and just need a little tightening and padding. Classical Mahogany Victorian sofa circa 1840-50
Mahogany with serpentine crest-rail centered by a pierced scrolled carved crest over the tufted upholstered back flanked by out scrolled arms w/S- scrolled carved arm supports above the upholstered seat. Mahogany lower side panels joined by scrolled front legs on castors. Reupholstered in burgundy velvet. Circa 1840-50. The sofa measures 70" in length with a width of 27" and a height of 33" at its highest point. Available for pick up in Warrenton. VA 20186 or buyer may use freight company of their choice. Has one large feather filled cushion that has a little tear that has been repaired at front edge. This upholstery must have been done in recent years.it is however quite appropriate for the era.
