Beautiful Empire style couch and matching ottoman with walnut trim from the mid 19th century. Upholstery updated in 2006. This is a lovely piece which I would love to keep. But am downsizing and will no longer have room for it. The matching ottoman sets this piece apart from other similar couches. Dimensions: 6 ft 3 in wide. 2 ft deep. Couch has wheels. The left rear wheel came off(I have it) and probably would not be difficult to put back on. Since I've owned it I've had it resting on a small block of wood which has worked very well. This sofa/ couch was made in the Civil War era. 1820-1860) It is 82" long and 39" high to the center at the back. This sofa is ornate with hand carved walnut wood about 2" thick in dark brown color of the grape and leaf patterns. The cushion is about 4" at highest point. 58" long without arm, and 20" deep. It is an original tanned upholstery with the small mauve flower pattern. It is decorated with some fabric buttons on the cushion. The cushion is very firm. There are 3 light water stains on the cushion sitting area as shown in the pictures. There is a small worn area on the fabric of the left arm. No major damage on the cushion. The cushion is 5" high from the floor. It has the brass rivets stitched along the cushion all the way around the front. The arm is 24 1/2" high from the floor. Each arm of ... morethe sofa has embossed hand crafted grape leaf design. There is a wooden surface damage on the top right arm. The stitching at the back along the left arm has come detached about 2" The legs are very stunning with the hand carvings on wood about 2 3/4" thick. The end of the legs have brass wheels about 1" diameter. There is a tear at the back on right foot area of the upholstery about 2" But it is not noticeable. The back felt cover is purple/ blue. It is faded. There are rusty nails holding back cover. That is partially torn off. The bottom of the couch covered with the fabric. It is old, has no tears. All the tears mentioned can be fixed. This is a antique empire couch in mahogany and reupholstered with a cotton damask fabric. Overall in very good condition. However. Antiques are by their very nature imperfect with time and develop a patina of the wood that is desired. There are slight areas of marring to veneer. The carving on the front of arms in beautiful condition. The mahogany is gorgeous. Fabric is clean and not flawed. Very little wear to fabric. The arms are slightly loose and can be repaired.
