This amazing item features scrolled arms aswell as deeply and very detailed floral carvings all along the frame including the wonderful torch and flame carvings at the top. The form of this item is rare and breathtaking and the quality of construction and detail are something you will not find in todays furniture. This piece is in very nice antique condition still being very structurally sound and sturdy. The upholstery is clean for the most part with a few splatter stains on the matching pillows and upholstery here and there. There is a darker spot at the base along the front that will probably clean up a bit. This sweet antique settee was recently brought in to my shop in Pennsylvania. It is an eye popping double take kind of vintage furniture. Miniature settee measures only approx 27" tall and 30" long and was intended for a small child(too large for dolls I think) The wood is a chippy shelac of some sort of light wood. very old sofa. a classic design with a timeless beauty about it. sofa is strong. But not perfect. it deserves expert care and skill. i don't think the fabric is original, but it does suit the piece. before any repair their should be a lot of thought involved. this sofa will require involvement. i know it is not impossible to find out who the maker is, this is what i meant by involvement. knowing who the maker is could be a wonderful asset. this is for local pick up. there are companies that do pick up and deliver, but i am not familiar with them. i hope my pictures will give you some insight and help you make a good decision. thank you, william-415

I lean toward Sheraton because the style matches that most closely, and the wood does not look like Mahogany and Sheraton furniture was frequently done in Satinwood. These were purchased in Paris during the 1960's when the current oweners husband was assigned to the French embassy. EXQUISITE AMERICAN CLASSICAL STYLE MAHOGANY SOFA In the manner of Duncan Phyfe(New York. 1768-1854) 19th Century Item# 1402ZAZ25-Q A very fine example of pristine craftsmanship. The crest rail is exquisitely carved from a thick solid plank of mahogany; two nearly identical panels capture oak leaves tied together with flowing ribbon flank the larger central panel of intertwined cornucopia overflowing with sheaves of wheat and fruits. This motif captured the spirit of a period of peace and economic prosperity during which this sofa was crafted. These magnificent landscapes are of exceptional quality, each tiny detail carefully and painstakingly brought to life under the artists knife- it was an expensive detail to have incorporated into a sofa, as any small mistake led to the costly disposal of countless hours of labor and a large plank of ... moregorgeous mahogany. The crest rail has a soft backward slope, completing the cyma form of the back that so harmoniously mirrors the curvature of the arms and sharper bow of the legs. All edges are molded with delicate reeding, giving a distinct angularity to the curvy Greco-Roman inspired form. The tip of each arm is capped with deep floral rosettes carved of the solid, these flowing up from the panels over both legs, each depicting drapery hanging from floral rosettes with a large tassel focal point. The legs are deeply molded in large tapering horns that simulate the trumpet form of the cornucopia. Each leg scrolling softly along the apron- it is worth noting that the back legs are likewise carved of identical quality to the front legs, despite the time consuming and expensive nature of this carving and their relatively low visibility. This piece of furniture has, with pride, graced the halls of a historic home for almost 70 years. The velvet is flawless and the frame is free of any chipping or scratches. This French Louis XVI style chaise longue exhibits all typical frame embellishments of the period, the piece probably being crafted during the last years of the 19th century. The surface is a delightful old gray with hints of dark green and old oxidization under touches of a later dusty teal pigment. The handholds and arm supports are particularly well defined, each with deep and finely carved acanthus motifs against the twisted rope carved molding of the frame. An infiniti repeating motif flows along the apron, intermingled with deeply carved square rosette panels over each leg, these characterized by intricate carved and turned rings at the top over stop fluted tapered legs.
