The settee is ebonized and parcel gilt with additional brass fittings. The upholstery is a silky type polyester as far as I can tell. It has been newly upholstered and it is in excellent condition. This is a very nice hand painted Chaise circa 1890. Not really sure were it was made maybe the far east. Could even be Anglo Indian lts in very good condition, and looks like it has recently been recovered. The back is finished so it could go in the center of a room. This is a true Victorian gem! I have never seen anything like it. It is a fainting sofa/ chaise that opens and turns into a bed. The back has hinges and is meant to go down. The cushion opens up and folds out to reveal a hand made mattress, additional legs and even a hand made pillow. The mattress and pillow are made of straw and horse hair stuffing and are very heavy and amazingly in great shape. All antique experts that I have asked about this piece agree that this is extremely rare and nothing like they have seen. It has a metal plaque on the bottom with date and patent number from Boston. I have been told that this is a museum quality piece and is worth several thousands. The upholstery is original navy velvet. The fabric is in good condition with no tears only some sun damage. Continental Empire Style Fruitwood Daybed Probably Late 19th Century Item# 130006KIA13 For any decorator. Interior designer or anyone looking for an airy and classical form for their formal living room, this is a simply outstanding find. With quite fine form, the daybed lacks the bulky and overbearing appeal that too often is associated with works of the Late Classical and Empire periods. The thin scrolling profile is distinctly Neo-Grec in form, the arms in opposing S-scrolls flanking a large scrolling back rail. The loose upholstered cushion remains in good condition with just light staining and snags, as such giving it a certain vintage appeal that is attractive to some and unacceptable to others. It is deep and comfortably stuffed with down, giving it a lasting fullness throughout. The sofa rests over sabre legs over small ball feet. ... moreProbably crafted during the late 19th Century. The piece remains in excellent condition- notwithstanding the bit of looseness in the arms(and accompanying"crookedness" visible only from the side) this is an exceptional piece for anyone seeking a formal and classical solution to a living room or sunroom. Measurements: 79" long x 20 7/8" wide x 32 1/8" high to taller side; 21" high to top of the cushion Condition Report: Small stains and snags to upholstery. Oxidized scratches to the frame. As well as other scattered abrasions and dings throughout as expected with any antique. Light chipping to right leg; rear back leg has half of the ball foot chipped off. Old crack in back leg. The arms are a bit loose when lifted upward- they are very sturdy and strong and do not require restoration when it isn't being moved, but to lift upward from either side shows wiggle. We would recommend quickly re-gluing the joints eventually, but not worrisome as is; viewed from the side, you can see a slight crookedness to the arms, but this is not noticeable when looking at the sofa more generally. It has been made from beautiful mahogany which has been expertly inlaid with exotic woods and ivory by an master craftsman. It has been recently reupholstered in a beige fabric with delicate pattern. This is an superb love seat made in England circa 1880. The gilt work is all original and I would say its mahogany underneath. It sits on turned legs with turned finials to the back. Welcome to my auction for our Chaise longue which we have no room for. Was re-covered approx 5 years ago and still looks very good. Length is 2000mm. Height is 810mm and width is 660mm. Comes with a rectangular cushion as well made with the same material. The wood is generally in good order but expect little nicks and cracks as it is approx 140 years old at a guess? None of the springs are broken and still has the origional stuffing. No woodworm or funny smells! I think the best one you will find at the moment on ebay. Very long and heavy piece with phenomenal festoon carvings elaborately decorating the frame. This was recently acquired from an Estate in San Francisco where almost everything was of the same caliber and had been in the house for a long time. Exceptional piece of French chic furniture with very old fabric. The large pad is very heavy and seems to be made using feathers. Quite a lot of original paint is still present on this recliner. Measurements Chaise longue measures 60" long by 39" tall(18" at the seat) by 32" wide. Antique Naperville Khoeler Fainting Couch This is a beautiful Antique Fainting Couch. The body is Probably Quarter sawn golden Oak. That is in remarkably good condition for the age of the piece. There are some barely noticeable cracks. Which are shown. The Upholstery is not original. And needs to be redone. It should be really beautiful once done in a suitable fabric. I have included a photo of the undermesh. I did find a photo of an original piece and it appeared to have a dark brown leather upholstery. I have included a photo of the tag under the piece which states that it was ordered and sent to JK Paul. Pacific Grove Ca. It also bears writing in the upper left hand corner that says San Fran. and 7/25. I am not sure if this refers to a date when this was resold. Since the history of the Manufacturing company dates from 1898. When I purchased ... morethe piece it had a piece of paper with it with the history that it belonged to a family in the wealthy Knob Hill district in San Francisco. So it is possible that either Mr Paul lived there. Or it was later sold to a family in Knob Hill. I think I put this paper away for safekeeping and do not remember where I put it. I have researched the history of this piece. It was built by the Naperville Lounge company. Naperville Illinois. Manufacturer history: Peter Kroehler was born in 1872 the son of immigrant parents. In 1890. He attended the Commercial Academy of North-Western College(now North Central College) in Naperville, Illinois. His professor, James Nichols, and two other men founded the Naperville Lounge Factory in 1893 and hired Peter Kroehler as a clerk at $26 a month. Both the company and Kroehler were off to a good start and by 1896 he entered a partnership with Nichols, Fred Long and John Kraushar, the original investors. Unusual RARE 18th Cent ANTIQUE PETITE SEMI-CHAISE GOLD GILT & RAM'S HEAD French
This estate piece is documented by it's former owner(a high-ranking military official) in a binder documenting the fine antiques in his estate. About this piece. He says: Semi-Chaise, French(later crossed out) Gilt, Carved ram's head, wicker seat, wicker insets. 18th century. Purchased Geneva, Switzerland 1969" and then an added"Iran" My own opinion is this piece dates to the late 1700's or early 1800's. And is from France. I've seen lots of French pieces from this period and own many myself, and the style, construction and finish seem right for that time and place. My job here is to present what I know. and there you have it. Even though it's a bit unsure of it's origin. It's is a fine antique in a very unusual small size. I've never seen another like it. This is just slightly large than ... morea regular chair. It measures a footprint of about 30" by 18" and the tallest part is about 32" Chair shows the patina& natural wear associated with that period. But no distracting issues. This is a miniature antique Victorian fainting couch which I am pretty certain was a salesman sample. It measures 32" long. 13" wide and overall height is 16"9 1/2" bed height. It is in its original material which is in quite shabby condition now and its underneath springs need to be re-tied and it needs new webbing to hold them in place. The material is stained and tattered.it looks like a drab brownish gray now but originally it may have more a greenish stripe and I'm sure very pretty. It has turned hardwood legs.I might guess walnut or oak. It is in need of a restoration.and being in its original state you can see what should look like all restored in color and style.
