This is a simply beautiful mahogany federal style sofa that probably dates from the 1900s era. In gorgeous condition. It has the big, curved ... moreswooped arms with a big bird’s head that curves around, acanthus carvings on the bottom, acanthus carved wings, rope-braided edge molding on the center of the bottom of the skirt, and great-looking claw foot legs with wings. The back has a rolled pillar back, which is Duncan Phyfe style. It’s rare when empire and Duncan Phyfe style join hands. And a little extra on this particular sofa, it has carved wings off the scrolled rolled back. The choice of upholstery on this sofa is excellent, and is a dark wine-colored fabric that looks mind-blowing against the reddish-brown stain finish. Beautiful Empire style couch and matching ottoman with walnut trim from the mid 19th century. Upholstery updated in 2006. This is a lovely piece which I would love to keep. But am downsizing and will no longer have room for it. The matching ottoman sets this piece apart from other similar couches. Dimensions: 6 ft 3 in wide. 2 ft deep. Couch has wheels. SALE Classic American Empire Sofa in the Classical Style Made in New York 1825-1935 I can no longer keep this beautiful sofa which I have owned for 25 years. It was purchased from a friend of mine. An antique dealer, who inherited it from his family. I fell in love with the lines of this piece so I put together pennies and beat a New York antique dealer to it by half an hour. I thought I would never sell it but I am downsizing. I simply have too much stuff and this is a showpiece that should not be buried among other pieces of furniture. It really it best served as a centerpiece of a room. It is a work of art and a piece of sculpture. The earliest of these pieces made before 1925 were more English in look and more decorative with gold touches. This piece is in between the more gaudy English pieces and the later American pieces which were ... moresomewhat clunky. It is in very good condition. With beautiful antique mahogany wood that makes it look quite grand. At this time it is covered in a white subtle satin and silk(polyester of the highest quality) I tried silk but it was a nightmare- can't clean it, spots so easily, is very delicate and easily rips, The new polyester which looks and feels just like silk(you cannot tell the difference)can be easily cleaned. In fact I have a special super cleaner which I have used on it and my other valuable antiques which takes dirt right off, even wine stains! I will send the new owner the name of the product. There is a small piece missing on the bottom frame which we have in our overstuffed house and are now making a concerted search to find. If it is not found we have a person who can make an exact duplicate. However. I believe we will find it. There is also a repair(about three inches long) on the bottom side of the cushion. It is not visible with the cushion in place because the the top side of the cushion is in very good condition. The middle class was flourishing and furniture took on a more classical simple style away from the heavier ornately carved style of Louis XVI. The sofa is 7'8" long by 26" deep by 32" high. Floor to seat height is 14" The sofa features wonderfully carved hairy paw feet with wings and graceful out swept arms, with a reeded front edge. It has recently been upholstered and the upholstery is in excellent condition. There are no bolster pillows unfortunately, and the padding on the seat is rather sparse. It should have had another two or three inches of padding built up on the seat when it was re-upholstered. It would be nice with one long cushion in our opinion. This is an antique Empire style sofa in excellent condition. It features Duncan Phyfe style legs and rolled arms. We believe the wood trim is cherry. The fabric is in excellent condition. The sofa has been reupholstered in a heavy cream colored material. But we do not know the fabric content. My mother in law purchased it from an estate in the early 80s. Gorgeous Empire style circa 1850 couch sofa recently recovered
This is a gorgeous Empire Style sofa couch that is from circa 1850. As you probably know. The Empire style predates the Victorian era. So, this is one old sofa. In overall amazing shape, and recently recovered. Very comfortable to sit on. Does have some missing decorative wood work. But what sofa from circa 1850 doesn't? Any basic furniture restoration person can make a mold and recreate what's come off over time. Pictures detail what I am referring to. These minor inconsistencies do not detract from the overall beauty and functionality of this piece. This sofa would sit perfectly as is in any classy, elegant living room. When you take in the splendor of the while piece, you hardly notice the inconsistencies. One of the big expenses when buying one of these very old sofas is getting it recovered. Very good condition. No holes. Stains. Minor color fading on the sides. Pillows are in great shape. Fabric is period style, color is dark coral with bumble bee design. The length is 73 inches. Width is 21.5 in. height, floor to arm rest 30 in. floor to back 35 in. We have owned this for over 20 years and was used in a formal living room with little to no use. Smoke. Pet, child free home.
