Interior designer or anyone looking for an airy and classical form for their formal living room, this is a simply outstanding find. With quite fine form, the daybed lacks the bulky and overbearing appeal that too often is associated with works of the Late Classical and Empire periods. The thin scrolling profile is distinctly Neo-Grec in form, the arms in opposing S-scrolls flanking a large scrolling back rail. The loose upholstered cushion remains in good condition with just light staining and snags, as such giving it a certain vintage appeal that is attractive to some and unacceptable to others. It is deep and comfortably stuffed with down, giving it a lasting fullness throughout. The sofa rests over sabre legs over small ball feet. ... moreProbably crafted during the late 19th Century. The piece remains in excellent condition- notwithstanding the bit of looseness in the arms(and accompanying"crookedness" visible only from the side) this is an exceptional piece for anyone seeking a formal and classical solution to a living room or sunroom. Measurements: 79" long x 20 7/8" wide x 32 1/8" high to taller side; 21" high to top of the cushion Condition Report: Small stains and snags to upholstery. Oxidized scratches to the frame. As well as other scattered abrasions and dings throughout as expected with any antique. Light chipping to right leg; rear back leg has half of the ball foot chipped off. Old crack in back leg. The arms are a bit loose when lifted upward- they are very sturdy and strong and do not require restoration when it isn't being moved, but to lift upward from either side shows wiggle. We would recommend quickly re-gluing the joints eventually, but not worrisome as is; viewed from the side, you can see a slight crookedness to the arms, but this is not noticeable when looking at the sofa more generally. Ornate Antique 19th Century French Caned Louis VX Style Canape en Corbeille For your consideration is a stunning antique French Louis XV style canape en corbeille. The piece is masterfully carved and painted in green and an ivory color and wonderful parcel gilt. The crest rail features a laurel wreath extending outward from a central floral rocaille. The rail continues with more floral carved decoration all the way to the bottom and around the back and inside around the cusion. The back is caned with a single layer and the outside panels are double caned. All of the caning is in excellent condition. The bottom features an oak and acorn motif broken up by a carved and gilted ribbon and the top rocaille decorations of each leg. The rocailles above the legs are very well carved and they sit above the cabriolet legs with scroll feet. The canape ... morehas some minor loss of paint that is consistent with normal use over the past 125+ years. There is also shrinkage at the joints and small cracks in the unseen places like the back of a leg. The piece is structurally sound and nothing is loose. Antique 19th century "Duncan Phyfe" Style Sofa
This sofa is absolutely stunning. In perfect condition. I purchased approx. 10 years ago at an Antique Auction House. Paid $4,000.00, then I had it re-upholstered and had it in a room of my home that was never used. When I purchased it the Auction House said it was made in the early 1800's. The wood is Rich Mahogany and has aged beautifully. This sofa has no scratches, tears or snags and the upholstery is in excellent condition. The craftsmanship is gorgeous. This deeply worn and patinated with traces of gilt over a green and cream ground, the chaise lounge exudes a provincial charm that can only be found from years of enjoyment and exposure. Crafted very clearly in the French Louis XV taste probably during the mid to late 19th Century, it remains in quite nice condition despite it's years. We would certainly change the upholstery, as the wing is a bit too discolored to be forgiven, but the down stuffed cushion remains very full and comfortable. If you like the upholstery, a small pillow could be used to hide the discoloration ... moreand the upholstery enjoyed in it's current condition until you find the ideal fabric for it. Finely carved throughout. The deeply channeled and molded frame is interwoven with naturalistic embellishments throughout; there is a strong acanthus presence throughout- in the carved hand holds, the turns of the molding and in the outflow of the crest and apron carvings. These two in particular, the crest and the apron, both are deeply and robustly carved in a most admirable way. A distinctly rocaille design, the shell grows from the molding in a perfect transition, the finely incised lines detailing the inside of the shell and the outflowing foliage. The entire form rests over six cabriole legs terminating in scrolling french toes. This treasure of a chaise will certainly be a strike point to the master bedroom or sunroom with some fresh upholstery- it is a remarkably comfortable and practical piece for any social area and will be cherished in your home for a lifetime. Beautiful 19th Century french set that I had reupholstered by a professional italian Upholsterer approx 9 years ago with Scalamandre heavy duty upholstery that cost approx $400 a yard 9 years ago. This auction includes more than 7 1/2 extra yards of this fabric for you to do anything you like. Drapes, accents, pillows, whatever. Also, this upholterer put reinforcers on the sofa piece and I have taken a picture of one of the reinforcers underneath the leg in the 8th picture. Carved beautifully, rare. This is a very very old set so there are some nicks in the wood that can be touched up but it was made very sturdy. The upholstery is PERFECTION. This set was just for show and never really sat on or used and then you get all this extra Scalamandre fabric. Antique Tiger Maple Daybed Sofa Hired Mans Bed Early American Old 19th Century
An authentic Early American maple wood Hired Mans or daybed made in the first quarter of the 19th century. This has finely turned tiger maple posts and rails with highly figured curly grain. The original rope seat support was replaced many years ago with a thick drop-in cushion built on a heavy spring loaded wood frame. The cushion is covered in mohair velvet and shows some wear but would steam clean nicely. This measures 72 inches wide. 26 inches deep and the back is 28 inches high. The top of the cushion measures 19 inches from the floor. It is solid. Sturdy, and quite heavy, with no problem of supporting a lot of weight. The single warrior-medallion backs are each crested by two mutually facing perched birds. The armrests commence with open-mouthed gargoyle heads. Terminating in concentric ribbon-rolls. The sage velveteen upholstery rises on legs spaced with carved floral cubes(two on each front leg. One on each back leg. The front legs are joined by carved floral crests. In pretty nice shape as the pics show with some minor wear from age/ use and the upholstery which is older possibly original has some imperfections like those seen and it comes exactly as shown.
