The overall size is 68 inches wide on the outside of the arms, 48 inches wide on the inside of the arms, 28 inches deep, 38 inches high to the crest, 23 inches high to the arms and 16 inches high to the seat. Antique Walnut Love Seat Settee Couch Tufted
This auction is for a really pretty antique victorian love seat/settee. I think the wood is walnut. The decoration across the top wood looks like nuts or fruit and flowers of some kind that is carved. The velvet material is a very pale reddish cranberry. The pictures are very true to the color. The back is tufted. The wood frame is sturdy. It measures about 59 inches long from the widest part of the wood frame on top. It stands about 34 inches tall to the top of the fruit. This is a amazing french gilt settee which has just been recovered in a high end fabric. The gilt work is all original and the frame is very solid. It just cost $1800 to have this recovered in this fabric with animals showing. To the back it has very nice carvings and sits on turned fluted legs it has open arms which is also carved. Very old Antique love seat couch( settee) I have been told it was created at a time when wood ship building had been on the decline and wood workers from that ship building. trades had began to work in the cabinet and furniture industry. Pieces such as this had been designed or at least influenced by these former ship building craftsman. I do not know for certain if this is true? the origins of this piece are unconfirmed. The upholstery shows a little wear with no rips or tears. As you can see in the pictures the condition is very good. The wood has scrolling on the top and bottom front. It looks like walnut. One of the rear legs may have been replaced but. Can't be sure. The detail on this little piece is amazing. You are looking at a Victorian style love seat/sofa. The wood is still in great condition with no visible wear. The couch is sill firm and sturdy and can be used for everyday living or just an ornamental conversation piece. The upholstery at the seat area has had maybe a coffee or tea spill. The fabric appears to be of satin. You can't tell the couch has spill stains on it from halfway across the room. The marks are subtle. The size is 58' across and 37 1/2 inches tall. It's just the perfect size where it won't take up too much space. The Clayton family brought this piece from their collection with them and had it moved in when they first had a summer house built in 1923 in what is now historic Avondale.
