An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key.
