Antique Labelle Wheeling Pottery American Beauty 13" Oval Serving Platter BEAUTY
Up for consideration is a beautiful antique LaBelle Wheeling Pottery oval serving platter. I believe this pattern is referred to as American Beauty. The Wheeling Pottery Company went out of business in the 1920's. This piece is in amazing condition for its age. Although there is glaze crazing from age it does not have the discoloration that usually accompanies it. This piece was well taken care of. The platter has very little signs of use at all-a few light scratches& a few pock size chips on the underneath which is also typical. The gold trim is also in good condition. The photos speak for themselves. The platter is 13" x 9 3/4" wide. I also have a bowl in this pattern listed. So check my store if you are interested. Antique Serving Platter The Wheeling Pottery Co. White Granite ca. 1890
This old serving platter was found when cleaning out a church cupboard. It is by The Wheeling Pottery Co. of Wheeling. West Virginia. According to the mark, it was made in the late 1800's. The platter is 13.5" long, 9" wide, and 1.5" high. It weighs 2.5 pounds. It is very sturdy. The platter is stained on both the top and bottom. And has crazing throughout. There are a few small manufacturing flaws. However, there is very little surface wear, from contact with table tops or with other dishes. Maybe it wasn't used very often. Shipping by Parcel Select or Priority Mail. If buyer wishes. Local pick up also available in southern New Hampshire or the Boston area.

This piece is made of fine grade plays and has been cast into a scalloped rim mold design with gold gilt rim. This piece has been glazed in a deep cobalt in a very wide band around the rim that has flowed beautifully into the bone whiteness of the semi porcelain givingb it the appearance that so attracts the collectors of these pieces. Gold gilt further enhances the desirability of this piece but the real stunner is the transfer printg of a beautifull woman dressed in period garb in the center face of the charger with gold gilt filigree style inner rim surrounding the portrait framing it beautifully. 1893-1910 Ex Lg LaBelle Pottery/Wheeling Pott Fish Platter in Bright Hues; Great
This is a marvelous older piece dating back to as far 1893 through 1910. The extra large oval fish platter was made by Wheeling Pottery/La Belle Pottery; and bears both their makers marks on the under side. The Wheeling Pottery Company. Located in West Virgina, operated from 1879 through 1923. In 1910, they went into receivership. The La Belle Pottery Company was formed under the same management as Wheeling, 2 years later in 1893. The 2 companies then began operating as one, with different departments. They specialized in ceramic tableware of a very fine grade, in an attempt to compete with the European makers. The company employed its own decorating, coloring, and glazing processes. This particular platter is exceptionally well made, and presents in good to very good condition. There is crazing all about, due to age, and one area as seen ... morein photos 7& 8 where the is a stress crack which can be viewed on both sides. Otherwise, the piece is defect free, and looks great for over 100 years old. There is an original metallic gold border around the entire platter which is visible, but shows some wear in spots. It is an awesome piece measuring 22 in by 11 in; weighing in at 4 pounds. The colors are bold, featuring a dark green border, and a blue/green background in the center. The large reddish brown fish with yellow spots is asea. There is a lovely, large white with orange highlights, flower in the water; as well as sea growth scattered within the area of the fish. Collectors and enthusiasts of antique ceramic fish serving platters, will immediately recognize the rare beauty of this older display piece. These pieces are difficult to come by in a condition that is suitable for display; making this platter all the more desirable.
