Beautiful Antique Staffordshire Black and White Transferware Podmore. Walker& Co"Corean" platter manufactured circa 1834-1859. The"Corean" Platter is pictured in Collector's Encyclopedia of English China Values and Identification. By Mary Frank Gaston, A Collector Book, published in 2002 on page 99, plate 211. Measuring approximately 16" long. It is approximately 12" wide. It has a deep recess, which allows the meat juices to be confined. The pattern featues a lake scene with temples, a lady with a parasol and boats. The border details have an oriental floral feeling with scrolls and leaves. There is some very minor crazing, which considering the age of the piece is not surprising. There are no cracks. A beautiful antique18" flow black transferware platter by Podmore Walker of Staffordshire. England in the"Washington Vase" pattern. Normal 0 The scene depicts two urns next to a palm tree with castles with mountains in the background. The makers mark on the back indicates the platter was made between 1834 and 1859. Measures approximately 18" long. 14" wide and 1 1/2" tall. The platter has no chips or cracks. There is light crazing on front& back. And a number of brown spots most look like the were caused by the firing. All typical for the age of the piece, and add to it's antique charm. Please examine the photographs carefully. 16" Podmore Walker Flow Mulberry / Black Transferware Platter " Corean pattern"
This platter has very thick and shiny glaze. There are lots of reflections in the pictures due to the shiny glaze. It also has dark rich Flow Mulberry. The color flows to the back of the platter putting it in the category of flow blue or flow mulberry. It is 16" wide by 12" deep. This platter was made in the mid 1800's in England. The platter is marked on the back Podmore Corean and is made by Podmore Walker in England. The platter shows wear on the bottom and I can just envision it on a table during Civil war times. The plate has no cracks or chips. It has utensil marks on the front from use. There is crazing throughout. There is one area by a stilt mark that has several tiny glaze pops that show the white underneath. I have provided a photo of this. The plate rack is not included. Walker& Co. took over the Unicorn Pottery and Pinnox Works in Tunstall in 1834. Sometime later they occupied Swan Bank Pottery. Vacated by Ralph Hall in 1849. They are listed by Ward in 1843 as having two factories, Newfield and Tunstall. The initials P. W. Co. appear on several printed marks. In 1859 firm became Wedgwood& Co. when Enoch Wedgwood succeeded the older partnership. Enoch Wedgwood had been a partner in the original firm from about 1856. Antique Manilla Pattern Platter An item not often encountered this large platter made by Podmore& Walker of Tunstall. Staffordshire, England dates from 1834-1859 and carries the wonderful flow blue Manilla pattern. The platter measures 15 5/8" at its longest and about 12 1/4" at its widest. The pattern is astounding and the blue is very deep. The images include Asian style flowers and willow trees with buildings. Noted for accuracy and shown there are some areas on the platter that have bubble pops from the glazing process both on the front and back but there are no chips, cracks, or crazing to note.The center of the reverse shows a lightly printed mark that reads"Manilla P. W. Co. Ironstone" as well as an impressed mark that reads"Pearl Stone Ware P W& Co.
