Beautiful Flow Blue 13" Platter in the Nonpareil Pattern by Burgess& Leigh Middleport Pottery Bright Blue color with a shiny glaze that is not worn from use. Depicts castle scene with two ladies and one gentleman in the foreground, Scalloped edges( One chip on scalloped edge not visible unless turned over and looking at bottom(see photo) minor hardly visible crazing on front of platter. The underside has some crazing that is more visible(see photo) A few brown spots along outer rim and underneath the platter and a very small spot on lower lip of plate. I have for you this evening a very fine example of flow blue made at the kilns of New Wharf Potteries in England in the late 19th century. This lovely piece is made of very nice grade semi-pocelain and has been cast into a traditional oval mold with deep well. This piece has had a lovely shamrock pattern called Paris transfer applied to it and then fired so the pattern in cobalt has flowed and mingled into the pristine whiteness of the porcelain giving this the look that collectors of these wears like to see. Mercer USA Pottery Flow Blue leaf and flower design 15" by 12" platter Rare Nice
I have for you this evening a beautiful example of semi porcelain was created at the kilns of Mercer Pottery in the good ole USA in the later part of the nineteenth century. This piece is made from fine grade clays and has been cast into a classic deep well meat platter mold. I do not know the pattern name for this piece but can tell you that the pattern consists of lovely little flowers and big broad leaves. The way the deep cobaly blue flows into the stark white of the semi porcelain is just what gets the blood working for collectors of these wares. This piece is very pretty and will make a lovely addition to your collection and will display nicely no matter the setting. Item dimensions and dating: All measurements are approximate. Gorgeous New Wharf Pottery platter in the pattern"Louise" Made between 1877 and 1894. This pottery wasn't open for long so pieces are hard to find. This particular platter is unusual in that the center"flow" or"transfer" is smeared. Making it a one of a kind piece. The pattern circling the center depicts lilies and forget me knots. The edges of the platter are scalloped, and there is relief work in a ribbon design at both ends of the platter.
