c1825 Morea Pattern Ironstone Serving Platter Roman Columns Search This is an English early 19th century ironstone serving platter made by J. Goodwin in Longton. Staffordshire, in the"Morea" pattern. It in are very deep blues and whites with a floral and scroll patterned edge. The center is a scene with Roman columns near water. There is an impressed mark on the back with"ironstone" spelled out. There is a blue transfer mark with a Phoenix bird above a scroll& giving the pattern, maker, and Longton. The plate is in excellent condition with one minor chip to the right edge on back side, not affecting its front, and with some craculature aging to the back glaze. Rare 1864 Bridgwood & Clarke Burslem Large SERVING PLATTER Excellent IRONSTONE !
I am pleased to offer this treasure from Mother's Estate. This is a 5-Day Auction. So feel free to bid early and bid often! This is a very large( and very heavy) Victorian English Porcelain Opaque Ironstone Serving Platter. Crafted by Bridgwood& Clarke at the Church-yard Works, Burslem between 1857-1864. This platter measures 19" x 13.5" Weighs 5 1/2 lbs. features an entwined Grapevine motif, and is marked with the classic B&C Burslem hallmarks, including the full Impressed Mark. I believe the condition of this 149+ year-old Platter to be somewhat extraordinary. In that it shows NO Crazing, has NO Cracks, NO chips, and only the most minor of rack stains on the bottom. There are only the faintest of cut-marks, and very few of them. It really has led a charmed life. I have tried to capture the glossy mirror-like glaze ... morein the photos. I have also tried to capture some of the nuances inherent with mid-19th century ironstone. Kiln marks, little micro-flecks in the white field, tiny-small glaze flaws, just so you don't consider them to be damages or negatives. These are proof of the age of this piece, indicative of just what hurdles porcelain makers had to jump over in the coal-fired age. Very few of these platters are left in existence. This auction is for a 15" x 10" serving tray manufactured by the Trenton Pottery Co. in Trenton. New Jersey during the period of 1875- 1880 when this hallmark was used by Isaac Davis, who owned and operated this company during this period. Not too many pieces are found with this hallmark. So I'm hoping that a few serious collectors of these pieces see this auction as I'm auctioning this item with no reserve. This 10 1/2" long ironstone platter weighs approximately 2 lbs. In very good condition for its age. No chips or cracks. There is a tiny indent in the pottery near the edge. I believe it was done in the manufacturing. The company name, G.P Co. is impressed into the bottom. The gold tone rim shows wear.

Antique John Maddock and Son 15 inch Ironstone Serving Platter 1880-1896
A large antique Ironstone John Maddock and Son Serving Platter from around 1880 to 1896. The company John Maddock was operated in Burselm England and founded in 1844 and added his sons to the name to the company in 1855. His pottery is highly sought after for it's elaborate decoration. This plate is not as decorated as some of his other pieces but still a beautiful piece of ironstone. It measures 15 inches long by 10 3/4 inches wide. The blue floral decoration and the gold trim show wear from all the years of use. But there are no chips cracks or crazing on this platter and almost no surface scratches. Marked with the trademark"Saxon China" but no makers mark. It dates to the 1830s. These items are very hard to find and this one is relatively good condition for its age. Overall crazing with some light staining around the drain holes.This pattern is very similar to Mason patterns of the same period. The drainer measures 14 1/2 inches by 10 1/4 inches.
