Antique T & R Boote Lahore English Transferware Serving Platter Royal Pattern
A 13 1/8 inch by 9 inch 1880’s English serving platter. The transfer is underglaze brown with over glaze hand-applied colors to the flowers. Raspberries, etc. A good size for potatoes. Veggies or even a normal sized chicken. It is fully marked on the base. There are no hairlines or chips. And only slight utensil marks. There are three stilt marks on the base with an area around one with a dark underglaze mark. There is a small loss of color on two flowers which is under the glaze and occurred in the making of the piece. There is wear on the rim color and a spot near the rim. All of these are pictured. I go for full disclosure. And generally my pieces are a pleasant surprise to my buyers. I believe this platter shows beautifully. And it has a lovely cozy look. 3122E Bidders– Your bid is a contract. Antique 1882 Copeland Polychrome Transferware Serving Platter India Tree Bengal
Up for auction here is an antique Copeland serving tray in the India Tree or Bengal pattern. The rounded platter has a dark blue/black transfer printed design of oriental style tree branches in bloom with a butterfly that are underglaze painted in shades of pink and greens. The underside shows the impressed Copeland over crown mark which indicates the material is white earthenware. There is an impressed D over 82 indicating this serving plate was made in December of 1882. It also has handpainted numbers which would have been applied by the person who executed the transfer and color on this fine dining table service piece. This lovely platter has a registry mark that dates it to October 6th 1883 as shown by the table of registry marks on page 238 of Kovels New Dictionary of Marks, Pottery& Porcelain 1850 to the Present. The pattern was created during the Aesthetic movement of the 1800s and features a scenic center with cattails surrounding the medallion and geometric forms combined with scrolling and natural patterns at the edges.
