Fabulous Large Jacob Furnival White Ironstone Oval Platter 18" England c1845
This auction is for a Fabulous White Ironstone Platter made by Jacob Furnival& Co. of England in the mid 1800s. It is in excellent condition. Especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks or stains or repairs. The ironstone is very white. It is very hard to find a piece of Antique White Ironstone in a condition this good. The platter doesn't even have crazing. The piece is very heavy and thick and has a neat panel design. The platter as the Black Royal Coat of Arms backstamp with the company's initials. JF. It also has an impressed mark"16" The piece dates from 1845 and 1870. The years Jacob Furnival operated in Stoke-on-Trent, Cobridge England. The circular one is very faint but it reads in the 7th picture: J& G MEAKIN IRONSTONE CHINA" No 22 or 23 I am not sure. The J& G Meakin(Ltd) dated 1851- is mainly at the Eagle and Eastwood pottery works. Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, and it should be noted that the marks without"England" pre-date 1890. The platter has normal circular blemishes( hickey's) I call them with very light surface nicks. All has been shown in the pictures. There is no cracks or repairs and is in absolutely incredible shape given the age of the piece, there is one small surface scratch at the edge of the platter. The underside has the normal wear as of any platter of this age. Due to the age of the item please refer to the pictures ... moreand if you require any additional information, just ask. Up for sale is this extra large antique oval ironstone pottery platter. It is unmarked and probably English. But I can't say for sure. It measures 20 1/2" long x 13 3/4" wide. It does show some wear on the blue and gold banding and some staining. There is a very small tight crack that is 1" long and is only noticeable due to staining. For sale is a very old large heavy oval white ironstone serving platter made by Davenport in Longport. England. It has an impressed mark that reads in an oval shape: Davenport Ironstone China and has an anchor inside the oval of words. My research shows impressed"Davenport" with an anchor was used from 1810-1825; various printed forms of"Davenport Stone China" with an anchor was used from 1819-1864. I believe. Then, that this platter is dated sometime from 1810-1864. The platter is in very good condition for its age: No chips. Cracks, or breaks, but I do see utensil marks, several light stains, scratches and scuff marks on the underside, and some pits in the glaze. The platter has a beautiful scalloped edge design. Very unique and rare antique warming dish. I have never found anything like it before or since. Made of ironstone and in perfect condition. No chips. Cracks or repairs. Hot water was poured into the uncorked hole to keep food warm, much like old baby dishes and bowls. It looks like a tureen until you take lid off, which reveals a shallow dish or platter. This auction is for a Lovely and Large Antique White Ironstone Oval Platter made by W& E Corn of England in the company's Wheat Pattern. At a Large 19 inches by 13 1/2 inches. It would make a perfect serving platter for an upcoming holiday feast. The pattern has a molded ring of wheat stalks around the border against white ironstone. The platter is in Very Good condition. Especially for its age, which dates to the mid 1800s. There are no chips or cracks. There is a small dime-sized area on the face with a glaze pop and missing glaze and slight discoloration(see last photo) It doesn't detract from the appeal of this Impressive Piece. Antique Charles Meakin England Ironstone 1870-1882 White Ceramic Oval Platter
This Charles Meakin classic. Oval ironstone platter originally produced in Burslem, England between 1870 and 1882 measures 13 1/2 inches long and 9 inches across at the widest point. The platter has no chips or cracks. It does have evidence of wear appropriate with it's age and regular use in a household.
