RARE 2 Color DAVENPORT CYPRUS Ironstone Black Mulberry 14" Platter Alcock Texas
Just removed from the family estate of south Texas Pioneers Sidbury Family. There is some information on the estate at the end of the listing. This is a very RARE piece of IRONSTONE from the 1850s. What makes it unique is that it is done in 2 colors. The trees and bushes have a have a blue color over the black transferware. It is glazed over so it was a factory design. Platter is 13.625 inches long by 10.5 inches across. NO nicks. Chips, hairlines, cracks, etc. but 2 corners do have rubs as shown in picture. Some of the clear glaze is off the blue that you can see when turning in the light. Has a little utensil scratching but pretty minor. Backstamped with the DAVENPORT CYPRUS design and impressed with an Anchor, the word YENPOR, possibly YENPORT, the number 1 and 8 on each side of the anchor. Also has a number 12 impressed by the logo. Really ... morean impressive platter. Presently listing John Alcock Vincennes. Sidbury(1830-1904) The builder of this house, was born in north Carolina and came with her parents to Sterling Robertson's colony before the Texas Revolution(1836) She married John Wesley Scott in 1848; they moved to Nueces county, where he died in 1867. In 1875, she was married again to builder Edward D. Sidbury. A civic leader and bank Director, Mrs. Sidbury became manager of her husband's lumber company after his death in 1881. This structure was part of the expansion resulting from the ropes boom of the early 1890's. Colonel E. H. Ropes of New Jersey planned to make Corpus Christi a deep water port. He began dredging a channel across Mustang Island but ran out of money and abandoned the project. One of two rent houses originally constructed by Mrs. Sidbury about 1893 in the bluff addition on upper north Broadway. John Alcock Mulberry / Black Transferware Mini Platter "Vincennes pattern"
I love this platter because it is so tiny. It is only 10 1/2" wide by 8" deep. Almost a mini platter. This platter was made in the mid 1800's in England. It is a mulberry or black transferware piece. The transfer pattern is called Vincennes and it is in varying shades of black, gray, and white. The platter is marked on the back John Alcock Cobridge, Vincennes. There is an impressed letter or number. The plate shows wear on the bottom and I can just envision it on a table during Civil war times. The plate has no cracks or chips. It has utensil marks on the front from use. There is crazing throughout. There are some areas on the rim where the glaze is rubbed off. The plate rack is not included. This platter is large and heavy. It is a beautiful Mulberry or Black transferware pattern. There are lots of reflections in the pictures due to the shiny glaze. The color flows to the back of the platter putting it in the category of flow mulberry. It is 17" wide by 14" deep. This platter was made in the mid 1800's in England. It is marked Walker and was made in England. The platter shows wear on the bottom and I can just envision it on a table during Civil war times. The plate has no cracks. It has one chip on the rim that can only be seen from the back. It has utensil marks on the front from use. There is crazing throughout. this platter weighs over 6 pounds! This platter has very thick and shiny glaze. There are lots of reflections in the pictures due to the shiny glaze. It also has dark rich Flow Mulberry. The color flows to the back of the platter putting it in the category of flow blue or flow mulberry. It is 16" wide by 12" deep. This platter was made in the mid 1800's in England. The platter is marked on the back Podmore Corean and is made by Podmore Walker in England. The platter shows wear on the bottom and I can just envision it on a table during Civil war times. The plate has no cracks or chips. It has utensil marks on the front from use. There is crazing throughout. There is one area by a stilt mark that has several tiny glaze pops that show the white underneath. I have provided a photo of this. The plate rack is not included. This is a fabulous over sized Antique Mulberry Flow Black Transfer Ware Ironstone Platter.Circa 1840. It is 20" x 16" and has a 15" x 10" center. The subject center scene is an Asian Temple. The maker is F& W Co. Corean" with the hallmark on the back. It is is very good condition, with age related patina. No chips or cracks. Shipping includes insurance.

Mid 19th TJ&T Mayer Large Platter Staffordshire Black Mulberry Rhone Scenery EUC Note: This platter is in wonderful condition for its age c.1843-55. There is discoloration and crazing throughout the piece. A few little flea bites on back and signs of use along bottom rim. Under a light you can see little scratches from normal use of platter but nothing deep. No nicks, cracks or chips.
