Manufactured by Ridgways in the mid-1800s with the popular"Wild Rose" border surrounding the central scene of"Nuneham Courtenay" near Oxford) This pattern was used by many pottery manufacturers in the Staffordshire area in the early 19th century, who sometimes identified their firms and sometimes not. On this piece, the elaborate stamp identifies Ridgways as the manufacturer and the stamp further elaborates on the pattern: Wild Rose" and the type of clay used: Stone Ware" Unlike the other two I have listed. This platter has a smooth underside; no combing pattern. T he platter measures 18 1/4" across by 14 3/8" tall by 1 7/8" deep. It is in excellent antique condition. Vintage Ceramic Handpainted Turkey Platter 18 1/2" X 14 1/2" Japan
Large Oval Ceramic Turkey Platter is Hand painted and made in Japan. It measures 18 1/2" x 14 1/2" There are no man made defects such as nicks. Cracks on the platter, but there are a few manufacturing defects. The hand painting is a little irregular, with a few dots and white marks on the back part of the turkey and towards the back of the plate. These seem to be common on Japanese hand painted ceramics and do not detract from the visual impact of the platter. All of these are obvious if you zoom in on the pictures of the platter. On the bottom of the platter is embossed"Made In Japan" There is a little rough nobbin on the underside also, but is not large enough to keep the platter from sitting solid. J Clementson Antique Ironstone Transferware Turkey Platter 18 X 14
This gorgeous antique 18 x 14" Platter is a beauty to behold. As you can see by the marking that is was made by J Clementson in England in the 1840's as indicated with the Phoenix stamping on the back of the plate. This platter is called"Seaweed" as you can read from the stamp picture and I have not been able to locate any other seaweed plates so think it must be hard to find. The seaweed pattern is black on white pottery and is beautiful and delicate. Amazingly. This platter that is 170 years old has no cracks and has only some minor discoloration on top. There is some slight chipping as indicated in the pictures and one sizable chip on the bottom edge that measures 1" x/2" and does not detract from the beauty of the piece.
