Includes massive 13" x 18" platter(1 side edge chip) 8 3/4" x 12 1/8" platter(2 edge chips) 8 1/8" x 11 3/8" platter(1 underside edge chip and a few dark age lines) 3 total platters of very old mid 19th century English dinnerware in the very desirable Dresden Blue Onion pattern. The company was founded by Sampson Hancock. A prominent Wesleyan, in 1857 and was renamed S. Hancock& Sons(Potters) Ltd. in 1935. It closed in 1937, having been put into receivership on 23rd March. It was a relatively small enterprise, employing around 150 people. Sampson Hancock died on 9th May 1900 and was succeeded in the business by his sons, Jabez, Harry and Arthur. The ... morecompany produced tablewares and fancies for the popular market- its main income being from semi-porcelain and earthenware tablewares. Toilet wares, vases and vitreous hotel wares. Many of the products, including ironstone china, were for export markets. After WW1 the company increased its production of ornamental and decorative wares. These included children's wares and doll's heads. Boxed teasets for children were being produced by 1917 featuring popular nursery rhymes and pictures of children. Two designers of this type of ware were Molly Hancock and Edith Gater(see Designers below) The company also produced a range of crested wares. These being marked with the trade name The' Duchess' China or The'Corona' China and Grosvenor Ware. These may have been produced in quantity to see the company through the war years when skilled labour was unavailable. Pieces included animals. Small decorative dishes and Great War commemoratives, or had English or Welsh crests. Crested ware appears to have been made until the 1920s. They feature the traditional Spode design with 3 figures on an arched bridge. 1 figure in a boat, 2 birds, a tea house, willow and orange trees, and a fence in the foreground. The large piece measures 13x16 1/2 inches, the medium piece is 11 1/2x14 1/2 inches, and the small piece is 9 1/2x12 inches from end to end. The large piece has a couple cracks see pics. The largest platter measures 9 ½ by 14 ½ inches or 24 by 37 cm. The smaller platter measures 7 ¾ by 12 ¼ inches or 19.5 by 31 cm. The platters feature a slightly scalloped edge with a heavy applied gold edge. At the centers and around the borders are wildflower bouquets in blue. Around the borders of the platters is a raised lattice and floral pattern in the porcelain further enhanced with gold cartouches. Holland Pattern Flow Blue Onion, c1900-1915 From a large collection of blue and white patterned English china. These are two large serving platters. Not an exact pair, they are a very close match, one to the other, and were used together by the family who owned them. In addition to having the attractive Blue Onion pattern, each ... moreplate is gracefully embossed around the rim. Very pretty, and it gives lovely dimension to the platters. These servers were made in England by Johnson Bros. famous for their china and earthenware. There are ink stamps on the bottom of each, and also an impressed mark on the back of one, too worn to read, and the artist's numeral. The manufacture stamps on each are clear and easy to read. They call the pattern HOLLAND, and this was the mark used c1900-15. The Flow Blue is slightly more pronounced in one than in the other. 12 1/2" X 9 1/4" X 1 1/8"H. CONDITION REPORT: These platters are in lovely condition. Their color remains vibrant and true. Their only flaws are anticipated wear patterns from normal use ~ minor ones. Lovely Antique Pair English Ironstone Cobalt Blue& White Serving Platters 1800s Presented is a lovely pair of white and blue sponge-ware ironstone serving platters made in England. This platters is made of a creamy white porcelain which has been sponge decorated with cobalt blue. There are no marks. But the quality and craftsmanship is clearly English. We would date these to the late 1800s. These platters are both in good shape. There is very little surface wear other than a few light utensil marks. This is a superb Antique Blue and White Platters. It is 10 1/4" across with handles. Unknown maker but the design and porcelain quality feels like late 18th early 19th century The pattern has Chinese vase on the fence. Lovely flowers, lake, mountain and pagoda. The gold line adorns the rim and the handles- see the pictures. The border is a butterfly border. And there is embossing to the rims. These are very early pieces. The color is lighter than the later versions and the transfer is example of early porcelain. It looks like early version of Dorothea pattern. The platter is in good order for their age. Offered ... morein this sale is a pair of antique German porcelain oval platters decorated with the famous BLUE ONION pattern that were made in Meissen Germany in the later 1800s or earlier 1900s. Both platters are marked on the underside of the base with the printed name MEISSEN along with a trident or spear like symbol above. They are also impressed with the name Meissen. These were definitely NOT made by the Royal Meissen factory which used the famous blue crossed swords mark. There were a number of porcelain factories in the Meissen area that were granted permission by the German government in the later 1800s to produce the Blue Onion pattern which was widely popular at the time and still is to this day. Unfortunately. I do not know the name of particular factory that made these. The platters measure roughly 13 3/4" long x 9" wide x 1 3/4" deep.
