Measuring a large 10 1/2″ high X 9 1/2″ from handle to spout. Showing crisp transfers with brightly coloured painting on the outer sides& red lining to the rim& handle. Featuring animals, humorous vignettes& of course the Harlequin figures. A delightful. Very rare Staffordshire ironstone puzzle jug, by Elsmore& Forster. The sides are decorated with colourful scenes with a cock fight, from below the lip to the base of the jug, while the sides feature large images of the a jester and a Dandy Man on one side, then showing an old man, a Harlequin and a lady of the court. The foot, rim and handle are highlighted with red stripes. The interior has a hidden siphon system that causes the contents to spill when the jug is tipped, unless the purer covers the small air hole on the inside of the handle. I have researched this item quite well and have found this"particular" jug very rare. There is a small crack that is very.Very old on the side(picture 11& 12 circled) A little restoration would make this a superb example. I could have had this done for a small amount of money. But I like to sell things in there original state. Other than that it is perfect. On my research I have found 2 similar items selling for $895 up to $995 and one of these where a smaller size! Antique Elsmore& Forster Ironstone Platter. Going by the marks on the bottom of this piece it is the"Ceres" wheat pattern and was manufactured between 1853 and 1871. This piece has no chips. Cracks or repairs and the face of the platter is free from spots. The back has a good amount of wear from regular use and three dots which I believe to be marks from a plate hanger. This Elsmore& Forster ironstone platter is in remarkable condition for its age. Going by the marks on the bottom of this piece it is the"Ceres" wheat pattern and was manufactured between 1853 and 1871. There is some crazing and little bit of spotting. I have done my best to photograph this item so any trouble spots are easily seen. There are no cracks or chips and no repairs have been made. If you have any questions please send me a message. c1860s HUGE 20" Antique Ironstone Meat Platter~Elsmore & Forster England
HUGE! Wonderful antique Ironstone Meat Platter. Dates from the 1860s. Made by Elsmore& Forster. Staffordshire~England. Large white platter with a slight grey cast. Has a deep well with a 3 layer bordered edge. This is a good old heavy one! Measures 20 3/8" x 15" x 2" deep. Very acceptable condition! No chips. Cracks or dings. Edges and surface are smooth with no roughness. BUT, there is some discoloration. Not an overall darkening, just in areas. Most are on the curved edge and border and not on the flat bottom.
