The center cartouches display hummingbird in one and a partridge( in another. This tureen has some wear to the decals around the spoon holder and on some of the corners and does have a line at the spoon cut out as photographed. Such a very very rare piece in overall great vintage condition. The marks on the bottom of the plate include the stamping of RIDGWAYS and DEVONSHIRE(the pattern name) as well as Rd. No. 2302 and a printed 688. The trademark quiver and bow are also printed. The pattern was first introduced in 1884. The design shows the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. The Japanesque and Aesthetic Movement influences include the asymmetric design, the decorative geometric border of sunflower motifs as well as central bird motifs. The inner background consists of an overall pattern of tiny repeated floral design. The outer border consists of stylized, geometricized flowers and leaves. Ultra-RARE BLUE/WHITE TRANSFER WARE PLATTER/ A SCENE I HAVE NEVER SEEN!
The collector who owns this piece said to me this morning that in 40+ years of collecting; he has never seen this pattern before. This example he bought out of an attic in upstate New York back in the mid 70's. It is VERY large; measuring 16 1/2" by 13" and the center scene appears to be in a station of some sort or a lavish hall; note the ornate ceiling and the clothing of the day worn by the men. Women and children. It looks like a many level train station. surrounding the border is a thick vine of ivy and other ornate greenery. In picture#4 you'll note the hairline; the same for the backside of the platter in picture number 6. The platter I assure you is quite stable; surface shows beautifully and the crazing I think was intentional at the time of production. Antique Lindner Brown Transfer Ware Platter, Chinese Scene, 13” Inches, Bavaria
This is a beautiful large platter made by Lindner& Co in Bavaria. It is brown transfer ware and depicts Chinese scenes and flowers. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks but has crazing of the glaze on the back and a tiny bit on the front where the light tan color background is. It has a thick sort of feel to it and is in an octagon shape. It is 10.25” inches by 13.5” inches and about 1.25” inches tall. Shipping and handling $15 in US. $60 international. Measurements: 15- 3/8" in Length; 11- 7/8" in Width; 1- 3/4" in Height; 10- 1/2" Base ring; Condition: Condition of the La Francaise platter is Fair-to-Good. Great amount of general discoloration primarily on Obverse surface; Very-Slight amount of utensil marks; Heavily crazed- Both surfaces. But primarily on Obverse; Some loss to Gold-gilding; Small chip to edge surface at 1:00 position and Some wear to Base ring surface. No other chips. Crack nor hairlines noted. ANTIQUE 1800s JAPAN EXPORT TRANSFER-WARE OVAL PLATTER OLD DIAMOND MARK wINFO b Here is a small late 1800s era antique ceramic Hong Kong transfer-ware platter with the good old markings on the back which you should be able to tell the actual date& where is was made. I saw these markings in a reference book but was a bit confused about the information. As there are two early markings that this looks alike. There are also many numbers, and impressions of symbols and numbers on this piece which would still be good to serve with or would be a lovely decorative cabinet or wall piece. The transfer ware pattern is lovely with a typical Asian decorative theme and the width across this platter 11 1/2 inches and the height at the middle is 9 3/8 inches. There are some faint areas of discoloration in two small areas which may be faded color also ... moreand one may even be a drip of rust color from the glaze. There are some imperfections in the actual transfer-ware pottery which is typical from this early period. Some of the red rim color is a bit worn but I see no serious cracks or chips in this piece. I may have to double box this for safe shipping so the post office does not destroy this and I also have a much larger oval platter in the same pattern that was from the same set on another ebay auction. EXQUISITE, HUGE ANTIQUE TRANSFER-WARE WALL PLATTER -" Zwinger-Dresden"
A truly rare and remarkably detailed piece of transfer-ware. This platter was made circa 1880(according to the antique dealer I purchased it from) It is titled"Zwinger-Dresden. The Zwinger Palace is located in Dresden Germany. It was built between 1710-1732. The scene depicts a garden party being enjoyed by members of the court within the inner courtyard of the palace. We see the people in their opulent finery seated at the garden table. The ladies with their fans; a servant brings them treats. The man standing on the far right of the group holds lorgnettes(eye lenses held up to his face with a long handle) A man plays with 2 dogs. Another couple is ascending the steps. You can see the details of the statuary on the left wall, and the elegant tower of the castle. Please look up photos of Zwinger Palace on the internet. This is a totally ... moreaccurate depiction of the actual palace, with incredible detail. It measures 28" X 17" I have never seen a piece anywhere near this size. When laid on my dining room table. It more than fills the center section. Please take a tape measure and mark the dimensions to see how huge this piece is. The platter is in perfect condition. There are absolutely no cracks or dings. The crazing is consistent with its age. The crazing is not visible or obvious(you can see it in the very last extremely magnified photo of the bottom that shows the numbers) There are 2 tiny areas on the base where the glaze has chipped off. They are NOT nicks. Just glaze that has worn off. The 2 spots measure about 1/4" each. The back has several markings: there are several stamps as follows: EP 476 M 2 There is also a painted: 2003. V. I do not know what the stamps or markings mean. But I would guess this piece was made in Germany, since that is the subject matter of the painting. The piece is wired for hanging. I had it hanging on my wall for a few years. But it has been in storage for the last 20 years. The wire can be removed, and it could be used as an impressive table centerpiece. There ar

A beautiful antique mulberry transfer ware platter decorated with flowers in shades of pink. Purple, and green, measuring approximately 13.5" X just shy of 10.5" It is not marked and we do not know the maker, but it bears some similarity to the"Marone Dresden Flowers" pattern. There is crazing all over and some discoloration, as well as some loss to the color/glaze on the floral decoration(loss has occurred in the areas that look blue in color) A couple areas of glaze loss near the edge, and a few small nicks on the underside(please see photos) but no hairlines or other major problems. RARE~Antique~1830's~Copeland Garrett Spode~Transfer ware~platter~Puti seasons
This week we have this rare 19th century(the mark dates this piece to between 1833 and 1847) Copeland& Garett-Spode large platter. THis piece is in excellent condition and is a large piece measuring 14 3/4" x 11 1/4" x 1 3/4" tall. I have done a bit of research on this piece and below is a bit about the pattern: S easons(ca. 1835—20th-century) Earliest pattern number is B454. Excavated examples were made by W.T. Copeland. Copland and Garrett marks occur on the copper plates as well as 20th-century marks. The name derives not from the centre designs but from the four figures in the border reserves. There is no evidence that the name was used when the pattern was designed by Copeland and Garreett. However, a 20th-century mark refers to the pattern as"Spode's Seasons. There are two series of centres: one depicts specific ... moreplaces(Windsor Castle, The Alps, etc. the second, Italian Garden, depicts formal gardens, in both series a vase of cut flowers appears in the foreground. The name of a month or season usually appears on the vase. There are as well smaller floral arrangements which were probably included as secondary designs on large objects such as soup tureens.
