This is a lovely. But incomplete Ardalt Japanese floral patterned tea set. Pictured you'll see two teacups with saucers; one creamer; one sugar bowl, and then a miscellaneous lid. Everything is in good condition except for one teacup that has a chip towards the base. You'll see it pictured- where the gold ring is missing at the base(that's where the chip is) and that same cup has a little chip on the rim. Unsure of the year made. Intriguing old Tea Caddy
This piece was found in a garage sale. Was in the midle of many others and soon caught my attention. It is a small tea caddy. Very charming and intriguing. With rustic touches, showing, even, a certain carelessness or the use of crude tools in his painting. The same goes with the manufacture of the ceramic itself, as you can see in the photos, the ring where the cap closes is not symmetrical showing a crooked aspect. Then. well then comes the paradox of a rich gold painting. Already presenting its own age's patina. I could not resist. I had to bring it! But the sugar bowl which is marked JAPAN and the saucer which has a marking in Japanese that I could not make out) I am not sure if the sugar bowl is from the same era, but the whole set was purchased together. The rest of the pieces in this set are in great condition. They are cobalt blue in color with a gold peacock and floral motif on each piece. I am not sure what the symbols on the underside mean(Arabic? I did not find any major chips or cracks and I am not sure if this is the correct lid on the sugar container although it does match. The teapot with lid is 8” in height. 6.5” from spout to handle with a 4” diameter at its widest section. Each 2 oz. mini cup has a 2.25” height and 2.75” diameter. For your consideration we offer an antique Frankenthal teapot in their Strawflower pattern. Wishbone handle and the underglaze blue lion rampant. The teapot is small which is typical for the period and measures w/o cover approx 3.75"h(w cover 4.5" x 4.24 not including handle or spout(w/spout and handle 8"w) Please note that measurements are approximate give or take a 16th. The base of the pot measures approx. 2.5" the body measures approx. 15.2" circumference at the center. We have owned the teapot for a couple years and have been researching for just over a year. There is another example of this form and pattern at the V&A, the sizes are close but not exact and the finials differ. The V&A's example is from the middle 18th century according to the site. There are also examples of this pattern and the Harvard Museum. The cup and saucer at the Harvard are a married pairing, but you can see the detail which is employed for the Strawflower pattern. The questions we had were 1. is the cover original and if so 2. is the decoration that of the period. Fortunately both questions were answered when we found another example of the strawflower pattern with the cover being decorated with the same decoration as ours has. Antique 1800's Paris Porcelain Hand Painted Teapot Up for auction is a gorgeous custom-decorated Paris Porcelain Teapot or Coffee Pot from the mid-1800's. It measures 8-3/4" high to the top of the rosebud lid finial and holds 6 cups. The bright white porcelain is decorated with deep fuschia borders overlaid with gold tracery. Satsuma Tea Set with Geisha Lithophanes - 22 pieces
Satsuma is a Japanese porcelain. First produced in the early 17th century. It is characterized as having"a crackle glaze and overglaze polychrome enameling and gilding" Satsuma pieces are often adorned with images of ancient wise men or immortals- men who were of such greatness that they were unable to die. These immortals are viewed as images of good luck. This tea set has 5 immortals and a geisha. It consists of 6 plates, 5 cups, 6 saucers, sugar(with lid) creamer, and teapot(with lid) for a total of 22 pieces- nearly a complete set for 6. Each cup has a lithophane of a geisha. A lithophane is"porcelain impressed with figures which are made distinct by transmitted light" In other words, if you hold the cup up to the light, a geisha appears(almost like a black and white photo) in the bottom of each cup. See photos. Each ... moreplate measures 7 3/8" in diameter. Each saucer is 5 1/2" in diameter. Each cup is 2" tall and 4" in diameter. The creamer is 3 3/4" tall and 4 1/2" across the handle and spout. The sugar is 5 1/8" high with lid and 6 1/2" wide across the handles. The teapot is 6 1/2" high with lid and 9 1/2" wide across the handle and spout. The set is marked with a red"Made in Japan" mark. 5 Piece Vintage Matching Nippon Teapot, Sugar Bowl, Cremer, Salt & Pepper
For sale is this beautiful Nippon set that includes the teapot. Sugar bowl. Creamer, salt and pepper. They have matching scenes of farmland with a building in the edge of the woods. The tree reaches up onto the lids of the teapot and the sugar bowl. The colors are rich and contrasting for which Nippon is well known. The teapot measures about 8" from the tip of the spout to the handle and stands about 4" tall. The sugar bowl measures about 6" from handle to handle and stands about 3 1/2" tall. The creamer measures about 5" from spout to handle and is about 3" tall. There is some damage with the following issues noted: two small repairs inside the creamer(only visible from the interior) The bottom of one of the shakers is missing some of the porcelain around the hole for the cork, some thinning of gold paint on ... morethe trim has occurred, and the corks are missing from the salt and peppers(although I believe one may be inside) Despite the damage, it is still a beautiful set and worthy of use or display.
