Early American historical Staffordshire transferware teaset in the Columbian Star pattern made in miniature child size, for playtime tea parties with dolls and friends. To celebrate t he successful 1840 presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison. Harrison’s campaign was the first modern“political” campaign. He w as a college graduate from a comfortable family background but through the use of the log cabin as the symbol of his campaign. He was recast as a rugged frontier hero and a man of the people. The log cabin motif continued to be made by Ridgway for some years after the election. The pattern is identified on page 37 of PRESIDENTIAL AND CAMPAIGN MEMORABILIA. By Stan Gores, published in 1982(now out of print) The pieces of this set are unmarked. Some pieces found in the childs size and adult size bear maker’s mark with the Columbian Star pattern name, and the date October 28, 1840, the date of the election or a plain impressed“John Ridgway” mark on the base. This was probably the most widely distributed political china made in the nineteenth century. Early ENGLISH PEARLWARE TEA SET Blue PAGODA Willow TRANSFERWARE Staffordshire
Early ENGLISH PEARLWARE TEA SET Blue PAGODA Willow TRANSFERWARE Staffordshire Offered for sale is this antique. Early English pearlware blue transferware tea set. There is no maker's mark- I have seen very similar patterns by New Hall and Miles Mason. This is a quality set with relief molding on the teapot, sugar, cream jug, and lids, and beautifully detailed handles. The feel and style makes me think this set dates to the very early 1800s. The set consists of 41 pieces. Which are: 1 teapot with lid 1 waste bowl 1 sugar with lid 1 creamer jug 2 handled serving plates 11 plates 12 cups 12 saucers Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. SIZE: The teapot is just over 8.5 inches tall. And is approximately 9.25 inches from handle to spout. The sugar is just over 7 inches tall to the top of the finial. The creamer jug is approximately ... more5.75 inches tall. The waste bowl is approximately 6 inches diameter and just over 3.5 inches tall. The handled serving plates are just over 9.5 inches wide from handle to handle. The plates are just over 7 inches diameter. The saucers are approximately 5.5 inches diameter, and the cups are approximately 2.75 inches tall. CONDITION: Considering its age and the number of pieces the set is in very good condition. Some issues to note: there is some light discoloration here and there. But overall the color is very good and white; 1 of the handled serving plates has 2 faint hairlines from the rim; 2 of the plates have a small flea bite on the rim; 3 cups have hairlines on the rim; 1 cup has a manufacturing separation on the rim and a few have manufacturing flaws on the handles; there is a hairline around the bottom of the teapot; there are a few fleabites inside the rim of the teapot that are completely covered by the lid; there is a crack in the sugar bowl. Please see the close up pictures. Al l photos below can be enlarged by clicking on them. The International shipping cost is an estimate- if the actual shipping cost is lower than what is quoted. Antique Pearlware Silver Lustre Pottery Earthenware Coffee/Tea Pot, Transferware
Antique Pearlware Coffee or Tea Pot Welcome to my auction! For your consideration is an unmarked antique Pearlware pottery/earthenware pedestal coffee pot. Most likely made in England during the early-to-mid 19th century. Brown transfer printed decoration with a seated lady and anchor. Platinum or silver lustre trim and decoration. The cream colored glaze has a slightly bluish tint, especially on the base where the cobalt has pooled. Measures about 11 inches to the top of the lid finial; the body is about 8.75 inches tall. Total weight is 2 pounds and 3 ounces. Condition: There are quite a few condition issues with this coffee pot. But this is still quite an interesting and decorative piece. There's a hole in the body(to the left of one of the transfer printed decorations) and a couple of tiny hairlines stemming from this area. There ... moreare at least three rim chips and three short hairline cracks to the top opening. The spout also has a couple of chips. And there is one chip on the lid near the silver lustre trim. The lid finial appears to have been replaced ages ago with a wooden piece.this finial is quite worn and shows a lot of paint loss. There is also some moderate crazing to the glaze in a few areas of the coffee pot, along with minor signs of wear and age. Please consider photos to be a large part of auction description. Black Transferware Childs Teapot Tea set BIRD of PARADISE Staffordshire c1850
800x600 Glorious Black Transferware Childs Teapot Tea set BIRDS of PARADISE Staffordshire. England c. 1860 This transferware child's or dolls teapot was originally part of an early child's miniature tea set. The covered pitcher stands 4 3/4” tall and 5” long from tip of spout to edge of handle. Applied leaf terminals join the handle to the body. Transfer printed in a rich and earthy black on a sturdy earthenware or ironstone body and decorated with naturalistic engraved illustrations of cuckoo birds. Hummingbirds or bird of paradise on a palm tree branch. The stunning pattern is a fine example of the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. The pattern name and exact maker is unknown. But the antique teapot was most certainly made in the Staffordshire region of England c1860. It is unmarked. We have been unable to find any reference ... moreto the pattern in authoritative books on the children's ceramics. A fantastic and rare example! The teapot is in very good condition. The finial on the lid has been replaced. Glaze wear along the rims and edges. But no chips, cracks or repairs. Minor overall glaze crazing consistent with age. The workmanship is haphazard. Which is one of the reasons many people collect it.not fine china, and not meant to be; it was made for children and probably considered disposable. The images are not aligned neatly, there is runny glaze and little bumps and dips and wrinkles and glazed over edge frits original to the making. The naïve and hasty style adds to the folksy charm. Offered as is. A wonderful naturalistic pattern. Richly detailed in an earthy and festive pattern. A perfect gift for the tropical bird lover in your life, or for any collector of early black and white transferware. We are always happy to combine shipping of multiple purchases. Please contact us with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos. Thank you for bidding! International Buyers– Please Note: Most of our merchandise is over 100 years old. The set is transfer printed in a dark earthy forest green finished with pearlware glaze. This pattern is called GOAT, which was made by Edge Malkin and Co or Cork Edge& ... moreMalkin, a 19th century Staffordshire pottery manufactory. The atypical name change could be due to a theft of the image from one factory by another, or it may be explained another way. The GOAT pattern is discussed in Doris Lechler's English Toy China as well as Lorraine Punchard's Playtime Pottery and Porcelain from the UK and US. The set is in very good overall condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Not fine pottery and not intended to be. Probably considered disposable. Flaws in the transfer and the glaze. Antique Wedgwood & Co Venus Transferware Tea Bowl & Saucer circa 1860
A blue transfer-printed tea bowl and saucer in the Venus pattern by Wedgwood& Company. This pottery was originally known as Podmore Walker& Co when it introduced this pattern. The name change came in 1860. Which makes this piece fairly late for the this style of handleless cup. The cup is 3.75" tall and 3.25" in diameter at the mouth. The saucer is 5.875" in diameter and quite deep. As the original intention was that the contents of the cup could be poured out into the saucer to cool. There are also fat stains in the rim of the saucer. Shipping weight is 2.0 lbs. Shipping and insurance will be $8.50. Blue Aesthetic Transferware Childs Tea Set PERSIA Fish Fans Allerton c1880
800x600 Childs Cobalt Blue Transferware TEA FOR THREE Ironstone Tea Set PERSIA Charles Allerton& Sons Staffordshire England c 1880 This is a spectacular child's transfer printed tea set. Service for three(Tea for Two, and a spare) circa 1890. The color of the set is a rich cobalt blue or flow blue on a white ironstone body. Decorated with a fanciful, abstract Aesthetic movement design with fans, fish, vignette and geometric whimsies. This design is very striking with a strong japanesque influence capturing the Victorian fascination with the exotic far east. The serving pieces are an uncommon round pear shaped. With flower bud finials. The set consists of: TEAPOT WITH LID 5 1/2" tall(spoon dings inside rim) SUGAR WITH LID 4 1/2" tall WASTE BOWL 2 1/2" tall Three CUPS 2" tall(1 with tight hairline) Three SAUCERS ... more4 1/4" in diameter Three CAKE PLATES 5 3/8" in diameter(foot chip on 1 plate) The set was made by Charles Allerton& Sons. A pottery manufacturer in the Staffordshire region of England who was well known for his fanciful children's tea sets. A few of the saucers and plates are marked with pattern number 751 and the pattern name PERSIAN inside a garter cartouche. The set is in great condition. As described above. No other chips or cracks. The workmanship is haphazard. Which is one of the reasons many people collect it.not fine china, and not meant to be; it was made for children and probably considered disposable. The transfers are not aligned neatly, there is runny glaze and little bumps and dips and transfer wrinkles and glazed over edge frits original to the making. The naïve and hasty style adds to the folksy charm. A great set to display or use- add it to an existing collection or buy it as a starter set. We have also listed a playful range of child's English transferware antique dishes to mix and match. Please send us an email with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos. Thank you for bidding! International Buyers– Please Note:
