Antique TEAPOT Mid 19th C ca 1840 C. Meigh Tivoli China w fake Chop Mark Tea Pot
Welcome to sugar_babie Auctions! For your consideration is this antique teapot by Charles Meigh. The pattern is called"Tivoli" and depicts scenes from Tivoli. Italy, including the Temple of Venus at left, the waterfalls in the center and what is assumed to be the Villa d'Este at right. Based on my research. The maker's mark showing only C. MEIGH is indicative of a piece being made between 1835 and 1840. After this time, pieces were marked as CHARLES MEIGH or C MEIGH and SONS. An interesting aspect of this piece is the fake"Chop" mark. Apparently the desire for China in England in the mid century caused makers in Britain to add these marks to their pieces. We know today. However, that this piece was manufactured in Staffordshire, England. I don't know anything about old teapots. But it's interesting to me ... morethat the teapot seems to be"tea stained. The pot has a brown patina to it, while the lid is very white(see photos) At first I thought the lid didn't belong to the pot, but a closer look made it obvious that the two belong together. I can't seem to find any info online to support my guess that use over many years has caused this. This item is part of an estate I'm trying to settle. If you have any better information or corrections for this listing. Please send them along. I am eager to learn! Thanks so much for looking! Bid With Confidence! Antique Flow Blue Oriental Stone CHILDS TEAPOT J & G Alcock c.1840 4"
Sweet little deep blue flow child's teapot. It is 4" to top of final. The color is deeper than pictures show. And it was hard to get the pictures to show the detail, it is a very nice cobalt blue color, with pagoda scene and a man with a flag. It is impressed with the name of pattern and company, Oriental stone" and J. Alcock, their is a missing glaze spot over the letter G. Their is a small chip under the lid, that is not visible with cover on, and a spot at bottom foot, that I think is a glazed miss, the same glaze miss look of the spots on the bottom. Otherwise a lovely little child's size pot. E-questions. From auctions all over eastern usa. Check out my!
