Antique French Gothic style porcelain Veilleuse Teapot on Warming Stand circa 1830-1860 An outstanding French 19th century Porcelain Veilleuse. Four pieces– tower. Base, teapot and lid. In a New York collection for over 35 years. The cylindrical stand which supports the teapot was meant to contain a small candle to keep the pot warm. The name veilleuse comes from the French for“nightlight” because the main lithophane cylinder glows when the candle is lit. In the early years. It was used on the bedside table to keep the top teapot warm before retiring. The light remained for a few hours serving as a bedroom nightlight. Exquisitely painted Old Paris porcelain Veilleuse (tea pot with candle stand)
An exquisitely decorated and rare 19th century Old Paris porcelain veilleuse. Or tea pot atop candle warming stand. The veilleuse comes in four distinct parts: a circular base to support the stand, the cylindrical candle stand, tea pot and tea pot lid. The circular base measures in diameter approximately 4 1/2 inches at the base and 3 1/2 inches at the rim. It is gilded, some wear to the gilt, and perforated with 4 holes to allow for escape of candle heat and gasses. Atop this rises the stand. This is exquisitely painted, one of the finest examples I have seen. The main motif features two men in a workshop or tavern interior. The figure at the right wears stands with his back facing the viewer and leans over slightly. He wears a red vest, yellow shirt, blue pants, black boots and a gray apron. He faces a man seated opposite on a beach in ... morefront of a desk or table. This second man wears a white shirt, gray vest, yellow pants and blue stockings and holds a pipe in his hand. The background to the scene is a brownish tone. This painted scene is framed in a border of gilt. The rear sides of the cylinder are decorated in a motif of ashlar masonry with brownish-plum colored blocks of stone. The top of the cylinder is gilt and perforated with a ring of 7 holes to allow for escape of candle heat and gases. The crown of the cylinder is decorated with an encircling band of white glazed beads. There is a minor chip on the interior of the cylinder and on the interior upper rim of the cylinder. Neither chip is visible when the cylinder is inserted into the base or when the teapot is placed atop. The cylinder measures approximately 4 1/2 inches in diameter and rises approximately 51/2 inches tall. The teapot is a glazed white porcelain It has a bulbous form with a scroll handle and stylized animal head spout. There is a gilt band running around the neck of the teapot, gilding along the outer edge of the handle, and along the lip and outer edges of the spout. Some of this gilding is worn. Rare 19th c Old Paris Porcelain Veilleuse - French Marquise & Dog Teapot Warmer
Description This listing is for an amazing Old Paris porcelain figural Veilleuse of a French Marquise and her dog. This is a very rare collector's item that dates to circa 1840 France. And features two separate pieces(teapot/ Godet and warming base) It measures 13 1/8" inches tall(total) with the square base measuring 6 1/4" inches x 6 1/4" inches. This Veilleuse figure is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. It does have some gold loss that is consistent with age, as well as a few slight chips to the rose in her left hand(also normal for any fragile item from the 19th Century) Her polychrome designs are clean and bright, and the entire piece shows no signs of repair or damage. The base is smoothed on one edge, but this looks like it could have been done during its making and does not appear as damage. The base ... morehas an incised letter that looks to be the letter C. A similar Veilleuse is featured in Harold Newman's book Veilleuses. A Collector's Guide on page 135. The Veilleuse porcelain ware was used during the 19th century to heat liquids beside the bed for those whom were bed ridden. This rare treasured example is described as a Marquise with her dog. But she even bears a resemblance to Marie Antoinette. This is truly a superb Old Paris porcelain collectors piece and Veilleuse to add to any collection! Antique Porcelain Veilleuse Warming Stand for Teapot Pink Blue Hand Paint Floral No chips. Scratches, cracks, or crazing, high fired porcelain. The gold has quite a bit of loss and wear. And around the opening the pink color is either worn or thin. The hand painted bouquets and sprays of roses mixed with other flowers are really charming. Next two photos show the front- Blue with the large front bouquet and less pink, and then the back, pink with two small sprays, an opening for the candle, and blue accent. The tassels were once gold gilt, and there was a lot of gold gilding, which has now worn away especially on the pink surface, seems to be more gold left on the blue, still has a great shabby appeal. There are six little stubby feet, and this has a sweet romantic shape. This is possibly French'Old or Vieux Paris' unmarked, showing ... morethe base, measures 6-1/8" high to the top at the oval opening, and app 5 inches across the base between the widest points. This listing is for a very handsome circa 1910 German Dresden and KPM veilleuse or teapot on stand. It measures 10 inches or 25.4 cm high to the top of the handle. And is 4 ¼ inches or 10.8 cm in diameter across the base. This porcelain consists of 3 pieces; the pot itself. Its cover, the stand. How this was used is that a candle was put in the base. This candle served two purposes, one it kept the liquid in the teapot warm and secondly it made a very pleasant light. Up for sale is an absolutely incredible. Museum quality, early to mid-19th century, 4 piece tea pot or coffee pot set on a warmer. When assembled this measures approximately 11" tall! One section has a rim repair, that wasn't done well.it looks like just paint was applied. There is roughness on the spout of the pot, which is most likely a hard-to-see small, flat chip. The finial rose is also missing some tips to its petals. For the aforementioned areas, please see the last four pictures for close-ups. Presented is a very attractive tisaniere/ veilleuse or tea pot warmer made in France in the early 19th century in the Paris region. It consists of three parts- the teapot with a lid and the warmer. There was most likely a 4th piece that would hold the candle- but a tealite will sit fine by itself. The set is hand painted with a floral design. Lots of gilding. The teapot has a figural spout but it's hard to tell because the gilding hides it. ... moreA very decorative piece to have around! The set is all original and in very good condition. It has some wear to the gilding but fairly minimal compared to most in this style. No chips or repairs or such. The teapot bottom part is marked Limoges France. The entire piece is approx 10" tall and the bottom has a diameter of 4 5/8" where the teapot sits. This is fresh out of an estate and dirty- there is some residue that resembles missing paint.
