Antique Willcox & Gibbs Treadle Sewing Machine Cabinet Extension Leaf Table Top
This is an Antique Willcox& Gibbs Treadle Sewing Machine Cabinet Extension Leaf Table. This holds the"G" shaped Willcox& Gibbs machines with a round base that has a single screw for holding the machine in place. The table measures 41-3/4" x 16-1/8" when opened and 28-1/2" when folded down. There is a slot for the treadle cord. The bonnet hardware measures 12" apart at the rear and approx. 10" front to back. This was on an ornate treadle base with a patent date from the 1870's. I do not know exactly how old this table is. The wood has wear on top and is very dark in areas. The edges where the table folds has a lot of chipped and flaked veneer. There are gouges where the rear clips from the bonnet were repeatedly hitting the table. The hinges are good. There is supposed to be a support bar that ... moreswings out to hold up the table. That is missing. There are also marks underneath where a drawer was mounted on the right side. There are mounting holes for the frame. Each is a two-hole pair with holes 2-3/8" apart. The sets are 9-7/8" from front to back and 21-1/2" apart side to side. Welcome Purchased at an estate sale. When dissassembling for packing I broke off the screw(last photo) that is on the end of the bar that holds each end toghether. I could not find any other damage to the base. But it could use a new paint job. The machine and wood cabinet top are also being sold. Up for bid is a fabulous ornate antique treadle sewing maching by Willcox& Gibbs. The original manual dated 1907 is included(rare find) This model is the chain stitch sewing machine that was all the rage around the turn of the century in 1900. All the paint and wood appear to be original. It's in excellent condition for it's age. The pedal glides easily. The iron base has no rust on it. I have the original leather belt.it has come apart at the seam. But may be repairable. The needle mechanism slides up and down effortlessly. The wood case is in excellent condition. 1898 Antique Willcox & Gibbs Coffin Top Treadle Chainstitch Sewing Machine Nice!
This is an antique Willcox& Gibbs"Coffin Top" treadle chain stitch sewing machine in excellent running condition. It appears to be all original with the exception of one wheel on the front right metal base. The sewing machine runs smoothly and still has most of its' gold decals and original factory gloss finish intact. There is very little paint loss and it has it has the beautiful scalloped base. The serial number B543826 dates it to 1898. Included is the key. Needle wrench, a sample of its' stitching and a reprint of the owner's manual and directions. No apologies for this late 19th century beauty. I really don't understand the process of getting this bronze or copper wash on the cast iron. But some are better than others. I am very pleased to offer this wonderful super fancy and super clean base that was made by Willcox& Gibbs New York in the late 1800s. This has some absolute wonderful cast work with a great deal of Art Nouveau influence and some of the nicest designs I have ever seen in a sewing base. This base measures aprox 29" tall and is 19 1/2" wide at the widest point and tappers to aprox 11" at the top. It still retains most of its original bronze polychrome accent paint and if you look at the pictures you can see how this highlights the metal and makes for a desirable look and feel. Gorgeous Machine and Original Cabinet. Patent dates on components go back as far as the 1850's. Comes with some accesories as shown in photo(am unsure what many of the pieces do) The belt on the wheel feels like a rubber. Its loop is closed with a knot(not sure if this is normal or it just broke and they tied it together. It works fine. There is also an old leather belt but its ends are not together. May be it can be clasped together with a metal band or tied. Comes dissasembled(read more about that under shipping) SHIPPING: I put a flat rate of $150. for fedex ground however. I will only charge actual shipping to your location and no more than $150. I researched fed ex ground rates which I find the best for things like this and the cost to ship this to Maine(furthest from me) is $150. So, if you live closer to California than that it ... moremay be cheaper. Send me a message with your zip and I can give you a better idea of cost to ship. ALSO- This has been broken down to fit into two boxes with the steel frame parts in one and the wooden parts and machine in the other. If not broken down we would have to ship freight which gets even more expensive. Total weight of machine is around 85 pounds and about 100 pounds packaged for shipping. I took many photos of the dissasembly and really it should be relatively easily to reassemble with only a flathead screwdriver and an 11/16" socket wrench. Antique Willcox and Gibbs Treadle Sewing Machine Butterfly Pedal Pat 1883
This antique sewing machine is a beautiful example of late 1800's workmanship. The latest patent date I could find on the sewing machine is 1883. The latest patent date I could find on the butterfly treadle is 1870. So not sure if the treadle is older than the sewing machine. It is in great shape for its age and shows normal wear. There is some use related corrosion on the sewing machine(see photos) that I did not try to clean to leave that to the discretion of the buyer. The treadle shows little corrosion and looks in great shape for its age. One knob on the drawer is different from the other two and there is one large chip on the wood at the fold down. The piece of wood to hold the folding table is in need of repair and will be included. If you are in the area local pick-up with no charge for shipping is available. This is a single drawer(under table) variety with coffin-style dome lid. This piece has a really cool back story- this comes as the original top of a floor model machine from a local sewing dealer. The dealer shop ran in the family from the later part of the 1800's until the 1950's. They closed up shop, but the family retained the business and this machine sat untouched for 60 years. The base sold previously to a customer who was on a wait list of ours, but we have several parts/pieces available this week as well. Some normal wear for age. This is a really strong piece! Good color on the wood yet(see pics) It was exceptionally dusty. So a little ... morepolish will really bring out the color. The mortise-work on the coffin top is a little loose due to age and use. Auction consists of 2 two drawer units. Locking, but there are no keys. Overall measurement of units: 13.5" at base) X 6" X 9.5" H. One drawer has original paper Willcox& Gibbs label with one missing corner. Both units have a penciled date of 2-21-14, which I believe is their date of manufacture. Offered is a wood part from an antique Willcox& Gibbs treadle sewing machine cabinet from 1914. The"Automatic Noiseless Sewing Machine" cabinet was a No. 6 Drop Case. As shown in pic. 3. The piece offered is the hinged"apron" shown between the two drawer units. Top piece measures 17.5" X 2.5" The lower section measures 13 1/8" X 9.1/8" The VERY strong hinges have a brass wash but are steel, as they attract a magnet. Other dimensions are shown in photos. Cast iron treadle base does have some rust. Serial# A317406. Last patent date 1871. Moving parts move. Nothing is frozen as far as I can tell, but I think the tension needs adjustment, as the thread tangled when I tried to use it. Comes with four extra needles in a case. PICK UP ONLY. Antique Willcox& Gibbs Treadle Sewing Machine Head Last Patent Date 1894. The patent dates start at 1882 and end at 1894. There are beautiful hand painted toleware tole type gold flowers decoration. Fine clean solid condition with no damage. Some pitting and normal age wear only- check my photos. It weighs 9 pounds. The Willcox& Gibbs Sewing Machine Company started in 1857 by James E. A. Gibbs and James Willcox opened its London Office in 1859 at 135 Regent Street. By around 1871 the European offices were at 150 Cheapside, London and later 20 Fore Street, London. The company hired John Emory Powers for marketing its product. Powers pioneered the use of many new marketing techniques, including full-page ads in the form of a story or play, free trial uses of a product and installment purchasing plan. The marketing campaign created a ... moredemand for sewing machines in the Great Britain that Wilcox and Gibbs could not meet. The machine's circular design was so popular that it was produced well into the early 20th century, long after most machines were of the more conventional design. Treadle sewing machine drawer keys: Domestic. Willcox& Gibbs, Singer, etc. One is marked Domestic. Five are about 2 inches long; the larger one measures 2 1/4 inches. Three have square ends; two are triangular. One is obviously homemade. These keys lock the bonnet and drawers of treadle sewing machines. They provide a very specific kind of security: they keep the tiny fingers of curious young children from fiddling with the attachments or pinching their fingers in the machine. The machine has gold gilt pinstriping and the case is oak with Burled walnut panels. The machine works smoothly. The original band is in the drawer as well as some original W&C Sewing machine attachments The sewing machine wood top has some discoloration to the top but not very objectionable. 1900 Willcox Gibbs treadle sewing machine
I have been restoring antique sewing machines for about a year now. Machine was maticuelesly cleaned and oiled. Being very careful not to loose the graphics. The top is new solid oak and the coffin top is not original. It has a new belt and all the wood was cleaned and cleared. I added the 23k Italian gold leaf on the wood and iron base. The machine looks great! Please ask any questions you might have. Please don't bid unless you are a serious buyer! Machine will be partially disassembled for crating and shipping. Antique Willcox & Gibbs Treadle Sewing Machine " Tiger Oak Table Top" Good Cond
This Willcox& Gibbs Tiger Oak Treadle Table Top was found at an auction. And is in very good condition. It has some scrapes, nicks, and a very small area with veneer loss, but is otherwise structurally sound. The wood is called Tiger Oak, which is quarter sawn(log sawed in quarters) and is a very desirable type of wood used in fine furniture. The Tiger Oak finish is medium brown and is uniform throughout, the only discolored area in the finish, is where the machine would sit, and that would not be seen once the machine is installed. All the required Brass hardware is in place, including the Positioning, and Lock receptacles. The drop down lever. And hinges operate properly. The approximate dimensions are 28 1/2" 41 1/2" extended) X 16 1/4" X 3/4" Thk(w/o hardware) I also have some associated parts for this Table Top ... moreon my other ebay auctions. Willcox & Gibbs Cast Iron Sewing Machine "Butterfly" Treadle Pedal NO MONOGRAM
Classic ornate"butterfly"style treadle sewing machine pedal in cast iron. This was salvaged from an old Willcox& Gibbs base. The only other intact part was the flywheel. This appears unusual in that it does not have the WG stylized monogram on the center of the pedal. It is decorated only with what should be the center of the"W. seen in the circle area. There are no marks that would indicate the lettering was removed. You can see in the detail photo of the center that there is still casting sprue inside the circle. I'd like to hear from any eBayer who might know why this lacks the monogram.
