1902 Singer Treadle Sewing machine Sphinx with case
1902 Singer Sphinx sewing machine with old wooden case. The stenciling looks goo for the most part the back has some wear on the stenciling as shown. I turned the inner knob and the needler goes up and down. I am not an expert on this machine but it looks in good clean condition. It does have a serial number on it that I researched on a Singer site to come up with the date. If you have any questions let me know and I will do my best to answer them. The case has a lock mechanism on each side that keeps the bottom and top together. Some of the paper is peeling off the side.

The motor and foot pedal work flawlessly. It is believed the sewing machine was refinished in the 1940's to match the popular Crinkle/ Blackside Models of the area. Overall the finish is in okay shape. However on the bed there is one chip about half the size of a penny towards the center and two equally sized chips near the front of the bed. Singer"Vibrating shuttle VS-3 Victorian model 28K Antique Sewing Machine This vibrating shuttle Model 28K serial# R206986 has been produced in the beginning of January 1902 at Singer plant at Kilbowie. Clydebank. Scotland. In 1867 Singer Sewing machine Company decided that the demand for their sewing machines in the UK was sufficiently high to open a local factory. Among other factors. Glasgow was selected for its iron making industries and cheap labor. This factory has been open in 1884 and has a million square feet of space and almost 7.000 employees which made it the largest sewing machine factory in the World. The Clydebank factory was so productive that in 1905 the US Singer Company set up the Singer Manufacturing Company Ltd. as a UK registered company. The Singer(vibrating shuttle) VS1 was basically a development machine which ... morewas quickly replaced by"fiddle base" VS2. The Singer VS3(later re-branded 28K) was introduced in 1886 and was 3/4 size rectangular version of the VS2. The same as it's big brother VS2 the VS3 during its lifetime underwent several minor modifications before finally becoming the 128K. The smaller VS3. 28, 128’s were mainly manufactured as portable hand crank machines. Each turn of handle crank produce three stitches. The faceplates on the Early models were plain and polished(like on this particular machine) vs embossed with a‘grapevine’ pattern on later models. All these models were available as hand cranked or treadle powered machines. In 1912 the original design incorporated a new shuttle ejector mechanism and the bobbin winder was relocated higher for it's rubber wheel to touch the drive belt and not the drive wheel. Like on this Early model. The Hand crank machines came in a beautiful mahogany wooden case- known as"coffin lid case" vs later ones oak"bentwood" case. Hello& Welcome, Here's a beautiful. Old Singer Treadle Sewing Machine from 1902. It's set in its original, gorgeous oak cabinet with lovely woodworking details on its face& drawers and a just as lovely cast iron base. The drawers also have their original hardware. This old Singer's in great overall condition for it age and was in very good working order until the belt broke a couple weeks ago. This is the only thing that will need replaced. It has its original attachments too, quite a few spools of thread and a lot of sewing needles used to pin fabric together. It also comes with both instructions for how to use the sewing machine and the attachments. The serial number is K290495, which dates it to being made in 1902. The first patent date on it is Dec. 5, 1882 and the last patent date is Jan. 13, 1891. On the oak cabinet ... moreis the number 3036, which I'm not sure what it means but believe it refers to its size, please see measurements next. It measures approximately 36 1/2" long, 18" deep and 30 1/2" high closed. Opened up it measures approximately 50 1/8" long, with the other measurements being the same. Very seldom do you see a complete Singer set like this one! I hope the photo's show this piece fairly as it's truly beautiful, elegant and certain to make someone quite happy to own& use. Or, to just have& use as a fantastic piece of old American made furniture/folk art. Though this is listed as"local pick up only" I will also consider delivering it for a fee. The wood is in good condition& shown on my url pictures. Singer makes a couple different drawer heights. Please verify these measurements before purchasing. The Drawer Frames measures about 10-3/8" Tall x 6" wide x 15" Long Each Drawer measures about 4 3/4" Wide x 3 7/8" tall x 14 1/2" Long. Antique Singer Model 27 Sphinx Sewing Machine. Serial# K49337. Machine moving parts operate freely and amoothly and needle goes up and down. I have not sewn with this although I see no reason that it won't. It will need a Shuttle and Bobbin to sew. It has marks. Scratches, checking on the paint and some worn graphics as expected with a 100 plus year old machine.
