Vintage Smith & Egge Automatic Miniature Sewing Machine
This sewing machine appears to be in excellent condition considering it's age. I see no rust except a little on the extra needles. All moving parts are working. I think all the parts are here including extra needles. It also appears to be in the original wooden box but the lid is missing. If you suspect something else may be missing please ask me to check. Still works easily but all parts that were originally nickel plated now have light to moderate surface rust. Up for bids is a wonderful ANTIQUE LITTLE COMFORT IMPROVED TOY SEWING MACHINE WITH CLAMP. INSTRUCTIONS AND THE ORIGINAL BOX. The throat plate is marked LITTLE COMFORT IMPROVED. It also says SMITH& EGGE MFGR. PAT'D JUN 2-96. There appears to be more patent dates but the stitch gauge partially blocks them from view. The instructional information calls it a 1906 MODEL. The machine is approximately 7-1/2" tall and 7" wide. It is in great condition. The chain stitch mechanism operates smoothly and the machine is complete. The paint is very nice and the plating is still shiny. The paper info sheets show age wear but they are still present. The clamp is complete and functions nicely. Conn. by The Smith& Egge Mfg. Co. This cool little hand-crank machine still sports its original brass looper/hook– an item author Alex Askaroff said only appeared on early Smith& Egge machines as“it was easily worn and soon replaced. Askaroff. In an article about the brief history of the Smith& Egge sewing machine company on the website SewALot.com, said the firm was founded in Bridgeport by“skilled inventors and engineers” William Smith& Frederick Egge around 1873-74. But it was at least 20 years before the duo entered the sewing machine market. The market for a small portable sewing machine was huge and millions were being made by companies selling ... morea product that every household wanted. Askaroff wrote. Although over 50,000 Smith& Egge machines were possibly made around the turn of the 19th century(under various names) only around 500 are known to exist today. And here’s your chance to own one of those scarce machines! Embossed front and center on its wee 3” by 1.75” cast iron base is“Peerless Automatic. The patent dates of“June 2. 1896/ Jan. 26, 1897/ Oct. 19, 1897” are engraved on the metal cloth plate, just to the right of the presser foot. While these portable machines were designed to be secured on a flat surface with a metal clamp. This one has been affixed to a 6.75” by 6.1250” by.8750” board via a screw and bolt that could easily be removed, if desired. The black paint on the machine’s cast iron body appears to be original and still has a slight sheen. There’s some paint scuffing in a few areas along a couple of the front edges. I believe this one is rare because this early version is chain driven. The piece measures approx 6 inches long, 3 inches deep and 7 inches tall. This is an auction for a rare and antique 1901 Smith& Egge automatic sewing machine. The machine is in great condition. It is not very big almost hand held in a since. It is a very interesting piece. I have not seen a sewing machine in this size, and in a kit like this. I am unsure of its working condition being as though I do not sew. However all the working parts seem to be there from the research I could do. The only thing that is damaged is the wooden box it comes in is chipped at the topped part all the way across, I put a picture of it up above. Hard To Find Smith and Egge Little Comfort. circular toy sewing machine. made in the late 1800's to 1915 period by this well-known toy sewing machine manufacturer in the New England area of the U.S. This is an average condition toy with the gold decorations at the bottom of the base almost gone. However the paint is in reasonable shape. This toy could use a nice cleaning. handwheel is a bit stiff but cleaning should make this toy turn smoothly. There is no needle and the needle screw is missing but can be easily fixed at a hardware story or hobby shop selling small screws. Nickel parts need cleaning to make handwheel turn easily and also the spool holder needs cleaning as well. will leave this up to you. A very rare item that does not come up for sale often. This is a antique Peerless Automatic cast iron American made sewing machine marked"PEERLESS AUTOMATIC" on the toy sewing machine. The machine also has three dates inscribed on the silver platform. It is marked"PAT June 2. 96. Jan 26. 97 and Oct 19. 97 all these were 1800's and this little machine is not only very rare but very old. I bought this from the same man whom I bought the vintage Americana doll I listed recently, his mother owned this before she died, she was an antique dealer most of her life according to him and these things he inherited at her death. The measurements are 7" high and 5.5" wide. I read about this and saw pictures on a website called"Meeker's Patented Antiques. Antiques of mechanical nature" It also said the Peerless ... moreis very rare and you do not see often. That it was made by Smith& Egge Manufacturing C. of Brideport, Ct. Original Antique Smith & Egge 1901 Mini Sewing Machine Clark's Sewing Box
An Original Smith and Egge miniature sewing machine marked 1901 on the forward plate. On the fabric plate it is etched with Pat June 2. 96 Jan 26. 97 Oct 19. 97. It has light surface rust and marring from contact and I believe the needle is broken(nowhere to put the thread) but otherwise in great shape. It still rotates with minimal effort(obviously needs a little lubrication to be perfect) and it includes the box I received it with(not the original) The box is a Clark's O.N.T. Spool Cotton Wooden box with fabric covering. The box itself is broken at the back where the glue gave out. As seen in the pictures. It also has a card of some kind from Merrick Thread Company which has been bent and torn in some places

This is a beautiful working Smith& Sewing machine. Machine is cast iron and hand crank and tiny. It shows its age with some chipped paint on the base and natural discoloration on the chrome. This machine is untouched and is in its original condition except for a little oiling. Dating from 1901, it comes complete with its original wooden box- after 100 or so years the box, as would be expected, is tattered and missing a piece. Antique Cast Iron Smith & Egge "Baby" Miniature Sewing Machine Patent 1894
This sewing machine is 6.5" tall and 3.5" wide. It has several patent dates between feb. 1882 and mar. 1894. It is in working order with surface oxidation. It is signed"Baby" There is no Smith and Egge plaque. But the mechanism and casting is the most similar to that companies machines of this time period. Please see photos. Thank you.

This antique"Little Comfort Improved Sewing Machine" comes with its original box. Instruction pamphlet and clamp.the latest patent date on the machine is Oct.19, 1897.I believe the machine is in good working order since the geared hand crank.lever,needle bar& pressure foot all move smoothly.the spool bar doen't move very much, but am not knowledgeable and don;t wish to fool with it.condition is good but it came out of a cellar and so the cloth plate has multiple pinhead dots.the major rust spot is the"T" in comfort.the bottom half of the box is in good solid condition.to top half has some apologies:one side panel is missing and the corners of the remaining 3 pieces have separated.please check photos carefully.the instruction book is complete.the pictures of the machine have great graphics.the top half of the booklet ... morehas age discoloring and a child had applied a penciled drawing. The package will weigh 4-5 pounds.

1897 Smith & Egge Little Comfort Improved Iron Toy Hand Crank Sewing Machine
Here is an original antique toy sewing machine still in it's box. This was made by Smith& Egge and has three patent dates with the newest being from October 19. 1897. This has been kept in it's box all these years and doesn't look like it was used much if at all. There is thread on it and I'll leave it as I found it. It cranks easy and makes a lovely sound. The original picture didn't have it's guide attached as it was in the box but I've since added it so it won't get lost. This also has it's clamp to hold it onto the table as pictured on the box cover. There is very little pitting on this and is in excellent condition. The box itself shows wear and has rough corners but has no tears and is intact. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Antique Smith& Egge Mfg Co Little Comfort cast iron hand crank sewing machine On the needle plate it says: The Smith& Egge Mfg. Co. June 2 96 Jan 26 97 Oct 19 97 Other Pat's Pending" though some parts of the dates are worn off. This is a chain drive model which is circa 1896 It is original and very old. It is not broken or missing parts to the best of my knowledge. There is some paint loss. Superficial rust and wear due to use and age as expected. The hand crank and chain drive move easily and make the needle bar move up and down; the lifter/lever works and moves the presser foot up and down easily. It all appears to function smoothly.
